re: Hyundai Creta 1.6L CRDi SX(O) - An Ownership Log - Update: 1,00,000 km up!

@a4anurag amazing thread, I've followed your thread as reference book to maintain a Creta since I brought one last November. Great and very informative posts. I have a few questions regarding maintenance. I've the 1.4 diesel. I run about 40k kms every year including past year. The last service I did a few days back i shifted to my FNG as I don't want Bill shocks at the ASC. I sourced all the parts from MOBIS.

My questions are as follows-
1. Would be it be good to do the oil change/ service at 8k kms? For better engine life. My Mech from FNG suggested 10w40 @ every 10k kms or if using company specs of 15w40 @ 8k kms.

2. Would it be good to go for Bosch fuel filter as it's only Rs800 as against Rs 1800 for the genuine Hyundai ones.

3. Bosch brake pads are only Rs 1000 as against Rs3750 for genuine ones. I've already brought this was wondering if Bosch was good enough.

4. Planing to buy Mobil 15w40 6.5 liter bucket from Amazon as it's only Rs 1850 as against local Petronas which was Rs2200 for the same. Any thoughts on this?

Since I service every 2 and half months service costs are important for me. If I switch to 8k service one service cost per year will increase, I'm willing to go for it if I can get trouble free 5 years of use. Anything else you would suggest me to service on a schedule apart from this? I've used a Duster 85 ps for past 4 years before this which is now my secondary car which currently is at 214k kms doing only routine oil changes. Can the Creta follow a similar service/usage? Past year has been great. Good fuel milage and hardly any niggles.

Awaiting your comments. Thanks in advance.

re: Hyundai Creta 1.6L CRDi SX(O) - An Ownership Log - Update: 1,00,000 km up!

Thank you, sir, for the appreciation. Congrats on the Creta

Since I do the services myself, I do it every 10,000 kms by procuring all parts myself following the maintenance schedule as per the owner's manual.

Will suggest you go for 5W30 grade oil. Try and source Mobil Super 3000 (Formula FE). I remember paying ₹2,400 for 5L oil. Been on the second oil change on this oil and the engine is performing great. For some reasons, I hate the 15W40 grade oil. 5W40 is also available but I think it'll be on the costlier side.

If you switch to fully synthetic oil, drain interval can be extended to 10,000 kms.

OEM is better here. Costly I know but better to stick to it.

How are the Bosch ones?

Current pads have run 70,000 kms so far and have another 10,000 kms life in them. OEM pads were removed from my car after 19,000 kms and replaced with Brembo ones. Happy with them, planning to order the same again.

Search for the oil above as I have recommended. If you can't get hold of that oil, then think about 15W40. Creta needs 5L oil per change so a 6.5L bucket will be a waste.

Thanks for the super quick replies mate you are awesome. Some more doubts
1. Due to less knowledge on my part I'm apprehensive about long term effects of deviating from manufacturers oil recommendations. Could you please explain the advantages of using a 5w30 grade oil?
2. My FNG Mech said Bosch brake pads are not that good for Creta and suggested another brand priced around 1k , I fail to recall the brand. I was surprised at his observation.
3. How much did the Brembo pads cost you. 70k kms seems to be a great run on them!
4. My user manual lists 5.4 liters as oil change hence went for 6.5 liter bucket. Will putting 5 liters be ok?
Thanks 😊

Initially, I used 15W40, hate that grade, I don't know why even though it is recommended and filled by Hyundai ASC. Post remap I shifted to 5W40. For the last 3 services have been sticking to 5W30 grade which is the recommended one from Hyundai (reverted to stock map also).

Recommended oil grades for Diesel engine

Going for a 5W30 grade is not deviating anything so nothing to worry.

I didn't like the OEM pads at all. Haven't tried Bosch ones.

₹2,500 IIRC.

I fill 5L always. No issues at all. A 6.5L bucket is not required.

Superb info mate. I'll stick to 5W30 grade 5 liters every 10k kms then! Could you please share the links or source to buy the Brembo brakepads, the pricing seems absolutely VFM. Tried googling but didn't get any india specific info. Thanks once again.

Search for United Motors, Chennai, you'll find them on Google and FB too.

Hi Anurag,

Can you please let me know which polish you had used for the outer black plastic trims? Liquid or wax type.

Second, in your opinion which brake pads are the best ones on stock rotors and how much improvement have you noticed using different set of rotors / brake pads.

Kindly recommend the best option.

I have used Kiwi Shoe Polish on the black cladding.

You can get the - TurtleWax Trim Restorer (Link to Product). I am getting one bottle to see how effective it is.

I have been using Brembo's on my car since 70,000 kms. Performance improvements are decent. Pedal feel also improves a bit overstock. Current pads have another 10,000 kms life left, shall be getting another set as a replacement.

Should I get rotors as well or just brake pads are sufficient

How much has the car run?

If the rotors are in good condition get the pads only if not get both.
