Dadu,

I checked up the manual. It says oil change at every service including the 1st service at 1000 / 1500 Km. They have also mentioned vide an asteriks that in case of severe driving conditions eg: " More than 50% (in terms of KMs) driving in heavy city traffic" oil change should be done every7500 kms istead of every 15000 kms.

Are you looking at the matrix wherein the tasks required at various service periods are specified, cos I cannot see the oil change at first service in that table, do you have a 2.2l manual ??, some have got old 3.0ltr manual instead.

Dadu,

Yes I have a 2.2L manual. (In fact I have 2 of them!! I had got 1st one directly from the printer because I wanted to read the details before I decided to buy the car - Sorry - Bull !!!)
The tasks are mentioned in the service category -a total of 3 pages. The 1st half on the 1st page mentions only oil top-up(i.e. gearbox, differential, power steering etc). The 2nd half mentions oil change in the engine. I think it is the 2nd entry (I am at work, now and do not have the book).

My safari is nearing the 2k mark now, due the trip which I posted in here

Overall running has become sterner and comfortable.

Tank Halfway mileage came to 14 Kmpl with 100% A/C

Overall tank mileage came to around 11 Kmpl, thanks to the city traffics.

When I started for the trip I did not go beyond 100-120, but while coming back it was 100-140 on the speedo.

You got an older print of the manual, i remember that initially this "x" was mopped up with white correction fluid by hand, perhaps they forgot on yours.

The next print of the manual does not have a "x" under oil change as you circled. My manual does not show it.

This is surprising because both my manuals (which have 2 months in between)have the "x" under oil change for 1000-1500 Km.
I have also bought my car after you did. (My car was despatched from TM on 05.12.07)

I will take up the matter - Thanks

Hey some one in the forum mentioned that the 2.2L has a 2nd service at 5000kms as well? Is this true cause my manual says 15000kms 2nd Service.
Also, no oil change at 1k I think it mentions only top up. Need clarification on this actually.

I saw the scanned copy. It specified API_CH4 minumum standard oil. Do TASS actually have an oil which meets these specifications?

TM have tied up with BPCL and Castrol for CH4 oil. I have a copy of their service circular. The recommended selling price is Rs. 175 / L.
BPCL courtsey their grade II+ base oil are competant enough to make CH4 oil.
The oils are Castrol RX Turbo 15w40 and MAK Tata Motors Genuine CH4 15w40 (BPCL).
The circular is of Oct '07. and reference is SC/2007/36

There have been very interesting posts on the Safari DICOR 2.2 VTT. Going through the threads I too am tempted to go for a Safari dicor 2.2 in place of an Innova. Please recommend any goog TATA MOTORA dealer in Mumbai with good service backup.

The various posts on Safari DICOR 2.2 VTT have been very interesting and I too am tempted to go for one. Please recommend a good TATA MOTORS dealer in Mumbai with proper service backup.

Only a most recent owner can clear this up now (check the manual), anyone ???

But the service advisor told me the same thing and abu who got the service done recently also states the same in his service feedback.
