The red light is supposed to come on when you have 10 litres left in the tank. In real life, you would have more because there would be some in the fuel lines etc (and this beast has a long fuel line...)

because they have only given IS1460 or equivalent as recommended fuel (which is met by all indian oil companies, didnt check shell), they have not mentioned if the engine will perform better with Normal diesel(HSD) or diesel with added additives.

As suman mentioned, its 10 ltrs but I remember when I went for a fill earlier on, when the needle was in the middle of the red bar, only 5 ltrs were left and the attended was telling me thats its completely empty, he filled 60ltrs.

Why are we so worried about .5 kmpl / 1 kmpl differences in mileage? This is a 2 ton vehicle you're driving, not a tiny econo-hatch.

Personally speaking the mileage is only for the sake of statistics, I am more keen on seeing if the engine behaves better(NVH) with the normal diesel or not.

Trust me it will behave much better...... After having driven a 60k KM 2.2 all i can say is the engine ages pretty well. You need to put in more miles for the NVH to get lower on a diesel.

PS: One word of advise though, Refrain from switching between regular and additive fuels often.

Did you say and mean 60,000 kms 2.2 or was it a mistake? If it was for real, who managed to drive it man? 60000 in 4 months must have been an achievement!

Sumit, SUV has extensively driven the 2.2 engined Safari when it was in the testing stages, way before it was officially launched.

That's what he's referring to if I'm not mistaken.

cheers:

TATA also recommends Normal Diesel and System D for best results.

and trust me on my 3.0 dicor,i tried normal/hi-speed etc etc.

but normal diesel+System D yields best results.beast is so calm and responsive with it and no black smoke which everyone hates.

i have been using it since last 10k kms.

and 2.2 should not be an exception.and as SUV mentioned switching between different kind of fuels is very bad.

I am not sure if this is the right thread to post. But, please help me.

We've many Indian Oil Companies that sell Diesel. Which one is the best for Normal Diesel - HP, BP, IOC, IBP etc... for Safari?

I've searched the forum a lot but couldn't find exact information.

Thanks in advance

You can but it from any TATA service center.

Adding system D to the normal diesel makes it diesel with additive but System D might be using a different formula than the local oil companies (they also buy the additive from foreign companies and mix it).

System D is tested by TATA's and engines tuned accordingly, therefore they recommend it and the engine also performs.

it costs 192 Rs/250 ml bottle if i'm precise.and TATA sells the one from company called "Iftex" and same product is also available at BP outlets(the yellow ones).

you can buy it from both places either from petrol bunk or from TASS.

Main advantage of adding System D i found is :- it reduces black smoke if regularly used and beast also behaves better
