Hey indra,

Why dont you go in for this

The new Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro - The ultimate high-performance SUV

Heh heh, jus kiddin, I would advise you the q7 or the Prado, if you wouldnt mind a petrol. The Prado is an excellent suv, on the road and off it.

Indra_slk - I would say the Montero is the best in this price band.Diesel power, Suv looks, off roading capabilities, Legendary Mitsubishi engines etc. and I dont know where you got that 0-100 in 17sec figure .It was something like 14.5-15sec in the Autocar roadtest. but if you are too much bothered with these figures why not look at a sedan?

The Montero costs well below 40lakhs and looks best in White or black. It has got an awesome soundsystem with inbuilt subwoofer as well. Also, I think the Montero is the only diesel Suv which comes with a manual tranny in this price band I beleive.

Interesting to note that when the SUV sales in USA & Europe are on a serious decline, the demand in India seems to be growing. Ironic to say the least.

SUV's in the USA & Canada are being offered at huge discounts. Maybe you can consider importing one !! Especially coz your budget is what it is.

Cheers

I still say you wait for Audi's q5 to release since your shelling out so much cash! Its come's in the x3 segment but has capabilities to beat other suvs b/w 40-55 lakhs.Q7 is way too expensive. But if you willing to shell more, then take Q7!

If u are looking at the Q5, it will be anywhere first quarter to mid next year. Not worth the wait if u want to buy something now, imho...

The Q7 no doubt is the best SUV in India today money can buy. But it would take u up your budget by 50%. and i wouldnt recommend the VW Touraeg either. Its an old model - Launched internationally in 2001, and still continiuing on the same shape.

X3 is also another horrible looking one, imho. The Prado is a great suv, BUT AGAIN, a very outdated one. and so is the Volvo XC90. These are all 2001-2003 models which are due a makeover anytime now.

Best thing is extend your budget little bit to around Rs.60lk, and buy the 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser (Import version) I have seen couple of ads for brand new vehicles, ranging from 60lk. Other day i saw on on the road here in hyd, and i was outright blownout by its appearances! its MASSIVE, its EXCELLENT!

cayennes are too commmon. i have had my new x5 for about 6 months now and all i can say is that it is a beast. i have the 3.0d but upped to the specs of the 3.0sd, so i have 270hp and 580 nm of torque at 2000 to 2750 rpm. 0 - 100 in 7.0 seconds.

i have driven the q7 but the 3 things i hated about that car were:

1. the brakes weren't nearly as good at the x5
2. i hate the shape
3. no where as fast as the x5

i have driven a cayenne many yrs ago and don't really remember how that drove.

the cayenne and q7 no match for the x5.

and this big suv will outhandle most other cars on the road. the angel eyes are beautiful, and the daytime running lights look awesome during the daytime too.

check out my x5 thread: here

x5 all the way. just have to shell out a little more....!

How did you manage to tune it to a higher spec? I didn't know BMW offered any option to remap the engine.

Since the 525d and 530d share the same engine, can i get my engine remapped to the 530 specs?

yes of course you can. check out:

BMW ECU Tuning, remapping, upgrades

this is the email which i got from them: Thanks for the enquiry. We do have an upgrade for the vehicle. We take it to around 275 BHP and 580 Nm torque. The upgrade is undetectable by BMW service and diagnostic equipment. Cost £795.00"

Damn, you got a DMS remap already?!?

I have been looking at this for a while ... they have some remaps for the 525d that can churn out close to 600nM of torque.

But how does one get the remapping done in India? I don't think they have agents here.

It was INR 51 to 53 lacs ex showroom (add another 13 to 15% on reg & insurance) a few months ago but the now the exchange rates are different. A freind of mine hs booked one last week and is getting delivery in August/Sept, his is 71 lacs but with some extra options he did state that the 51 to 53 lacs ex showroom for the base version meant for India still remains. Best of luck
