I am mulling the option of going MGO way from next service!

Long back, Hero-Honda standardized 10W30 for all bikes, though the recommended spec in my service manual was 20W40.
I feel 10W30 is too thin for Chennai. I have seen several honda and hero honda engines smoking to glory within 3 years. This could be owner's fault of not maintaining properly but this is not a suitable oil at all in south region. This recommendation is just to extract more mileage to keep the owners happy.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

^^My Splendor has crossed 95k KM on HH 4T+ (10W30)!

I posted the info to alert all Maruti owners as to what oil is being used at the MASS. Sure it is mentioned in the bill, but many people don't pay attention to the oil spec. I was informed this semi synth MGO is being used for all MPFI cars as per directive from Maruti and there will be no issues. I am thinking of Shell HX-7 for my next service, but this will solve a lot of hassles. The Zen actually runs very nicely on it!

The Alto LXi owners' manual does permit oils ranging from 10W30 to 20W50 under different conditions.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

yesterday i got shell HX7 can, 3.5l can for my santro. Its 15w 40. But the grade is SG+...is it not too low, considering that its a semi synthetic oil ? I remember seeing other similar semi synt oil of SM grade....experts, pls share ur views.
Will this imply a poor quality oil and have deterotd perf? For ref, castrol mag 10w30 is also sg+.

You must have bought the HX5. What color is the can? The HX5 is yellow and the HX7 is blue.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Baleno needs 3.3 litre engine oil (along with filter replacement) while most of the packs are in 3 litre capacity.

It is wastage of money to buy a 4 litre pack but some brands like castrol have 0.
5 litre easily available. Can we have some names for mineral/semi synthetic brands having 3.5 litre market pack, some brands that come to my mind are Veedol turbostar and Reliance. Total 3000 and castrol have 3 litre pack and hence are insufficient. Petronas has 3 and 4 litre packs.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Shell HX7 I have bought in 3.5 litre pack ...today only I have put 3.1 litres in my santro and kept the remaining 400ml for top. Its a fantastic semi synthetic oil .

^^Buy only from a known, reliable source even if the price is on the higher side. Then check if the seals are intact.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Hey guys, does any one have any experience with the Motul 2000 MultiPower (20W50) engine oil?

I saw this new oil at my bike mechanic's workshop, & he uses it for servicing Enfields.

Drive safe.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

My car (Petrol Getz) did a 60K kM in 6 yrs... at this juncture is it ok to shift to Synthetic oil? If so, can someone suggest which variant I should use.
Thanks.

Thanks.
I switched to synthetic on my old Esteem @ 95,000 kms. It brought in a lot of difference to the NVH levels of the engine. So, it should work fine for you as well.
