Hi Vikram,

Stopped over at the Shell petrol bunk on Vittal Mallya road here in Bangalore to fill up. While I was inside the counter to swipe my card, I saw bottles of Shell Helix Ultra 5W 40 kept on the rack.

I picked up one bottle and enquired about the price at the counter and the sales guy said that it costed Rs. 1015 per litre. A little taken abak with this price, I rechecked with another guy again in the same outlet and he said the same. He then showed me the sticker placed on the side of the 1 litre bottle and it read MRP Rs. 1015/-

You mention that it costs only between Rs. 700 to 800 per litre. Just want to check in with you before I buy this. Can you please throw some light on this?

Thanks in advance,

gpa

Yeah, Mobil's products are never VFM.
Look around the shop if he's carrying 1L *old price* packs. Was Rs.195 per litre. And you could bargain a 5% off it.

@gpa - I had last used this oil about a year back. It had costed me Rs.775/litre. I'm surprised to see a Rs. 240 hike. Anyways I now use Castrol Magnatec.

Hey GPA, when i was planning to switch to fully synthetic on my SWIFT VDI, i went in search for mobil and i was quoted 1000 per liter. But later when i found out the distributor for mobil i got the same stuff for almost 800 a liter. That makes a huge difference.

Castrol Magnatec on my Swift VXi last weekend.

Engine's become noticeably more free revving. Noise level, especially in a 2nd gear 40/50kmph has come down significantly. Nice.

Cost: Rs.1100/- for 3.5 litres

OWS / STP are tested and definitely good. So is Bardahl but its more expensive.
Ive seen the cyclo products, theyre made by an american company but no reports of its effectiveness.

I was not aware of not using the synthetic oil till 10K kms. On my recommendation, relative's Wagon R is running on Synthetic oil since it was 3.5K kms old.

Are there any chances of damage to engine ? I believe that till around 3-3.5K kms, the running in process is almost over and there there on no issues in using the synthetic oil.

If I am not a fool, I recommend you the Cyclo.

If possible, change your engine oil to cheap(but recommended grade & size) servo oil(110/litre) and run it in the engine for 30 mins with this flush.

Its better to remove and clean your oil sump, before switching to Mobil 1.

Dont forget to change your oil filter too.

The previous mineral oil in the car has done around 4K kms and its still clear,do I still need to clean the SUMP?(also run another oil in the engine?).

The sumps are not to be cleaned unless you find a professional mechanic to do it for you. But I am the eye witness who knows how a sump looks after the flush: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/access...tml#post974177
