Senior - BHPian | ![]() Dealers always make decent margins and I recommend contacting the Distributors of specific Engine oils. I had already posted about the MOBIL1 distributor who sells the 5W50 4L oil for Rs 3240/- unlike various dealers who sell the same variant for 4K+. |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() 10W40 Castrol Magnatec or there is this new product from Valvoline called DuraBlend 10W40 which is also semi-synth. Quantity should be less than 4 litres. Do check your owner's manual for the quantity. Both should cost less than 1000 bucks. PS: Adding pics of the Durablend Last edited by nitrous : 23rd December 2008 at 16:53. | ![]() Hi, Can you tell me what is the recommended oil for Maruti Baleno - is it 5w50 or any other. I am not aware of this and need to know it asap as I have a oil change due where I am planning to move over to synthetic oil for my car. Regards, Kailash |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() @Kailashnj: 5W50 and 5W40 are the grades available for a petrol car in India. You can use either of them. But, 5W50 gives better protection/lubrication during HOT summers, but are costlier too. So, its your choice. |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() A quick update: I've been using Petronas Syntium 3000 (5W40) fully synthetic oil in my Lancer for about 8000 kms. Inspected the oil today, and found it has turned a very dark brown, meaning it will need changing soon. I was kinda surprised, because I was under the impression a fully synth oil would not need changing for at least 15k kms. I haven't found the engine smoothness levels very different while using the synth oil. And since it doesn't seem to be very long lasting, I think I'll stick to good'ol mineral oil henceforth ![]() |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() Dark brown doesn't necessarily mean oil is bad. It also means its doing its other job of cleaning the insides of the engine well and hence has gotten dirty. That said, using synthetic oil for 15,000 kms is wrong practice and is only fuelled by sellers/marketers who just want to push these products by making them sound economically better too. I would never suggest using synthetic for over 10,000 kms in our dusty, dirty, etc conditions. Razor, Personally, I believe mineral lubricant usage is just for affordability sake. Try a different brand if you're not happy. But, don't move back to atrocious mineral oil for a car thats close to your heart. |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() What about Magnatec? That's the semi-synthetic stuff that Castrol sells, right? How good or bad is that? |

| ![]() IS there an oil company called ide***** somethin something ? I don't remember the exact name but a local oil dealer tried hard to sell me that oil (AP CF4 & 950 bucks for 4 L) over GTX Diesel (CI4 & 650 bucks for 4l) for my swift diesel. Yellowish bottle and it mentioned it as neing a "performance oil". Just want to check the crdibility of the guy. |
