Thanks for the Shell dealers address. Unfortunately, saw it a bit late. Just picked up 6 liters for 6090/- from a Shell gas station.

Wonder what is causing the Rs. 300+ difference in price?

Lubricant prices have skyrocketed in the past few months.
Moreover, synthetic oil is low volume-high margin entity. And petrol stations sell them at MRP.
I bought my 4L can of Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 for Rs.2650, not so long ago. which is around 650 per litre.

Before that, anybody else in Bangalore know where to get Shell Helix Ultra at these or similar rates?

Here's a tip: Find the biggest oil retailer in your town and browse through his inventory looking for the date of packaging. The older it is, the sweeter the price is.
But, don't get stuff older than 18 months.

Why fear when I'm here, dude? Call me when you wanna get the oil,I'll organize it for you.
About the draining, well, bring the engine upto operating temperature before you drain the old oil and let the oil drain completely right until the last drop. This would do.

thanks a ton mate, will give you a call

about the oil change thing i can't do much as i have to get it done in third service ......... in the service center for the warranty sake and i don't know how the people at service center gonna handle this. first service when i asked that i want to get the oil changed in front of me, it was complete disaster and i had a big fight with the guys over there doin the oil change. first they were filling the car with diesel engine oil, i told them that its a petrol car. then they bring different oil and after that they were filling it with 4ltrs of oil while the manual says 3.7ltrs only while changing the oil :(

well in the second service i convinced the service head over there that they will use the oil which i will bring. i specifically told them that i need the remaining oil from 4ltr pack, which they did ..... lets see, otherwise i will get the oil changed from service center, with some mineral oil and get the synthetic change somewhere outside or by myself .....

Time for an oil change for my Ikon Flair 1.3.

This is the first time it will be serviced outside an authorized ford service station so do not know what oil they have been using. I plan to continue to stick to mineral oil. Please recommend:
- Grade of oil
- Brand
- Quantity

Edit: Car has run 55k. I am ok using a semi-synthetic oil ( magnatec ?) also.

We see lot of price differences are there even in the same city. If possible can we have a table showing the best dealer/s in city along with price quote. Infact we can bargain once the dealer comes to know he is recommended in team bhp. Any say on this
