As fuel gets old eventually it will turn thicker and turn down to varnish and gum deposits, being hygroscopic, they love water in the atmosphere which will in turn rust a metal fuel tank and also rust everything metal it's being stored. Hence the horrible condition of the fuel pump. Additives aren't really necessary if tank is frequently filled up from a reputed station, those additives are more than sufficient. If you're unsure about your fuel source, perhaps as a pre-emptive measure you can additives like LiquiMoly etc.

Well, only time will tell. If it works, then it works, let's see if it holds up for the long term. I hope they've used a new fuel motor pump instead of the old one.

Trimming your post and getting to the essence of it, would recommend get your throttle body cleaned in the process even if it warrants or not. Bad fuel can and will leave residue inside the throttle body. Cleaning the throttle body along with the fuel injectors will only mean the performance is to the dot. Rest, you've pretty much done the needful. Also make sure your steering coneset isn't rusted, again, would recommend a inspect/lubing of the steering bearing and get them greased, 6 years of idle could have caused some rust accumulation, better get them checked all in one go. Hope the little monster roars to life soon.

She's finally BACK!!!

Had a crazy crazy first ride on her, after cracking a huge smile when I put on the ignition. Saw the familiar orange display light up and the hmmmm of the priming bootup. Thumbed the starter and she burst into life with her raspy idle. And then I rode her like a mad dog. Woah.

Took her to the Agyari and the Dastur ji prayed over her and blessed her. Took her home and had the customary aachu meechu done by my wife and elder daughter. Met up with my cycling buddies at Yazdaan Cafe for chai and cheese toast. Went over to my buddy's house to pick up some bibs and jerseys (thank you Kerman!). And came back home just as my son rode in on his Gixxer SF250 and we compared notes! Peppy my 3 year old pupper went mad, running wildly up n down the compound at the sight and sound of this new beast (he's born 3 years after the KTM went under the covers into her deep sleep, so he's never ever seen the bike, or dada riding a bike ).

Filled her up. Got to actually know the price of petrol after 6+ years of only filling diesel. Lol Checked the pressure in both the tyres, and got them 2 psi down on both, to my customary 25/29 psi front/rear. Got the chain slack adjusted with me sitting on the bike. Polished both my Faravahr medallions with pitambari powder. Got the battery warranty card filled in and stamped. Took the old rotor home as a wall hanging. The bar risers and front fender extender brackets neatly packed away for when/if I need them next. Paid Sheri his very reasonable bill (thank you Sheri to you and your team for getting my baby back to life, roaring!) and thanked him, and got her back home.

Got down to cleaning my jackets and pants today. To my horror, while cleaning my favourite mesh daily rider/tourer DSG jacket (did North Sikkim with it) I found black pieces falling on the floor from the inner lining. Finally dawned on me that its the inner armour that has totally disintegrated into foam rubble.

Need to get a new set of at least shoulder and forearm pads. Ideally a back pad too. Nothing fancy, as it will remain my lightweight go to jacket and the textile cordura RST my hardcore riding one. Any suggestions, links would be greatly appreciated guys!

Thanks Vijay. Even when touring I take these along in my top bag for easy access. When its really hot or raining, the full leather gauntlets come off and go into the bag, and these slip on. I love them coz they are light, not hot, give you a hard plastic slider on the palm, and hard plastic armour for the knuckle and fingers. Plus even when drenched they do not get soggy, and dry out while riding very quickly. All great features to gave in a second spare glove or one for short rides. Leather is therefore not my material of choice for this second glove. Would be happy to pick up a better built fabric one though. I have a very nice waterproof Dainese set. But the inner lining keeps coming out when you take them off,aking getting back into them while straightening out the fingers a real chore.

Cut the inner fleece glove liner out of both now. That was keeping on getting dislodged. Now I can either wear it as a seperate inner, or not. There was a in between layer of scrunched up large white colored material, that I'm guessing is the waterproof layer, too, which is now going bye-bye.

Maybe he isn't aware of how depreciation works as he wants the ex-showroom price for a 8 yr old bike. What is a fair price for a 2015 Duke 390, with say less than 10k kms? Assuming it is all stock, definitely needs work done due to low usage but otherwise in perfectly acceptable (for the age) condition.

Buying advice - I recently drove a friend's 2015 Triumph Street Triple and I hadn't felt such joy in a long, long, long time. I experienced the meaning of a few english words like mirth and exhilarating while my eyes teared up from the euphoria. I wanted to buy one the next morning but my wife reminded me that we are back in India (which has become so much more expensive) and that it was way out of budget at this time. My "revised" max budget is 1.5L. I'm aware of additional costs immediately after buying an used motorcycle. Are there any real options other than a D390 first gen for this price? Need it purely for my driving pleasure and the occasional office commute. Planning to buy a new car soon and hence the tight budget for personal entertainment.

I bought the 2nd-gen 2017 390 Duke that had 10k km on the Odo for Rs 1.6 lakh, back in 2020. I still see 2nd-gen model listings with comparable mileage for <Rs 2 lakh.

So, I'm not sure how the 1st-gen Dukes are fetching that kind of price. The price creep of the newer Dukes might have a role in that though, as could the 'cult' that has grown around them, as VJ says.

Shop around some more and see if you can land a 2015-2016 vintage 390 Duke for around Rs 1.5 lakh, a well-maintained one.

Nitninja, VW2010, Prasanadhana and few others were the reason for me selling my Duke 200 and I bought a used '17 390 from CGB in 2018. Odo is at 52700 kms now. Best decision ever. Although, I do miss Nitninja's 2016 Duke 390.

VW2010 has moved to Adv390 now.

Every evening we are on WhatsApp like two oldies singing paeans to the good old days. And when we find we are typing too much (very soon) we start firing voice messages back an forth.

It's great being back. Though age and time off the bike are an actual thing, as I'm discovering on the roads now, as I ride more than the 2 km rip on my backyard rip zone on one of @rb2399's new puppies, which he for some reason is good enough to bring home to my place for me to swing a rusty leg over and test out.

390 speeds and the raw pickup, traffic and the lines a bike takes through it, approach speeds, night riding and head-on lights and visor glare, road edges and concrete joints, potholes, broken / uneven tarmac, unmarked speed humps, these are all things being newly re-introduced to me these past few days.

I've forgotten how slow and confused and doddery and generally unaware most two wheelers are. How clueless of where they are on the road. Or what's around or coming up fast behind or besides them. I've forgotten aunties and their outstretched-legs penguin dance on scooties. Coz all of this makes no to little sense when you are driving along sedately at 30 kph in a 2+ tonne SUV. Which is what I have been doing for the past 6 years.
