Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

I tried out the Himalayan 450 today at a local dealer here in Dombivli. The test rides began only today, and hence I assume a lot of people would have rode the Himalayan from the morning as by the I took the test ride by around 1 pm, the engine was sounding gruff, and the motorcycle was already emancipating a lot of heat.

I never rode the earlier Himalayan at lengths to compare, my previous steed was a CBR250R which I had sold in anticipation of getting the Himalayan, which to be honest, didn't leave me impressed.

Tried the SuperMeteor 650 later, and WOW! I was bowled over by the exhaust note itself. She was smooth like butter to ride as well, although the suspension on the Himalayan is outstanding. It gobbled up the usual potholes for whom I would generally slow down.

I am not in a haste of any kind, a local bike renter has purchased the Himalayan 450 which will be available from January on rent. I will take a long ride and then decide, but for now it didn't pull my heart strings. I need to have the lust for my motorcycle all the time.

Or maybe I will just wait for the Classic 650 :P

Drop a mail to RE support with the name and area of dealership. State that you have received clear indication that the introductory price will not be honoured.

Apparently this has worked for a few members where RE have gotten in touch with the dealership from their end and cleared the point.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

Did a second test ride today, and the bike is lovely and today's objective was to check if I can move the bike with ease, on saddle, off saddle, putting the main stand etc. With my 177 cms and 82 kg build it was no trouble at all for me. Also I could saddle and change gears without a hassle or feeling any kind of awkwardness, this is a big-big plus point as one can comfortable stand without straining in this bike.

I will make the booking this week if price protection is not guaranteed I will cancel and wait a bit more. I did hear tick-tick tappet sound from the test bike though from around 7-8 feets away. Issues with vibration etc don't bother me as I am coming from a bike which vibrates that people will call earthquake inducing. But the vibrations on the handlebars are quite lesser than the KTM 390 Adv that I rode in Spiti.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

Has anyone booked H450 from Coimbatore area? Today I went to have a test ride at Ranathapuram Bullmen showroom and they were pretty firm that the price protection is not available and the pricing during the billing will only be applicable. I told them that there are confirmation from RE itself and even showed a picture of a reply mail to them. No. They didn't budge. I request them to confirm with RE/ASM from their end and give a call. I really doubt if they will bother enough to do it. Pretty disappointed with how things are handled. All kinds of mundane reasons were given to convince me that price protection will not be given.

Surprisingly, knuckle guards do not form part of the protection sub head. Maybe it's only part of the Rally Theme kit.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

I came across this HDX440 ownership and delivery experience thread (My Harley-Davidson X440 | Ownership Review) just now.

I believe similar to this, after Jan 1 Himalayan 450 delivery also might follow same pattern of registration. Road tax and insurance will be based on sale price on that day. On final amount, discount will be applied (diff between showroom price then and now). In that way they could say price protection is given, and in truth on road price would be different than they have quoted.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

Hi, firstly, in my previous post I had mentioned about dealership denying the price protection of booked before dec 31. I took the confirmation from RE via mail that all bookings before 31 will be marked to introductory price only.
Secondly, I have taken a test ride of the bike. Generally I found it to be good. However, I sensed a constant buzz right on the inside of my lower thighs on both legs where we kind of hug the petrol tank. My position is such that I hug the tank right at the bottom of it. Also the constant buzz on the footpegs.
To put things into perspective, my previous ride was an INT650 which I parted ways with an year ago. I found the throttle a bit easier that INT650. I sensed the lazy nature of engine below 2-2.5k RPM but that's not a big concern for me. Shocks, no wonder coming from INT650 its a day/night difference.
Now, I am contemplating to do a booking before 31 Dec to take the price advantage, I believe there is still no official announcement on the price increase post Jan 1. From what I have searched through numerous ride reviews and videos I didn't find any major problems being pointed out as of now except Bulu biker and Sagar sheldeker mentioning about the cone set noise. Does anyone have any more information on the same or any other problems? Also people who've taken delivery, what is your take on the supposed coneset and tappet noise? I just would like to take an informed decision before putting down the money on this one. TIA.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

Finally the Himalayan comes home

The selection
The other contenders being the 390 ADV and the Triumph Scrambler 400x. I have already posted why I chose the Himalayan in earlier posts.
So, it is what it is. The Himalayan.

The financial aspects
Ex Showroom price:₹2,84,000.00
Insurance (nil dep) : ₹22,944.00
RTO Charges(BH registration) : ₹5,000.00
Extended Warranty & RSA(4th 5th year) : ₹7199.00
Teflon coating : ₹1,178.00
On Road Price : ₹3,20,321.00

Delivery experience
Had pre-booked with Saraighat Riders, Guwahati on 7th November. Received a call from the representative on 21 December that the bike has arrived. I reached Guwahati on 22 December evening and reached the showroom on 23 December at 10:30 am sharp.

I must make a mention of Mr Sarma, the sales representative who handled everything very professionally. Payments were done online and all documentation was done prior to my arrival on the condition that I would do the PDI on arrival and only then go ahead with the delivery.

Everything was ready as promised. The bike was washed, teflon coating done and parked for inspection. I carried out a thorough PDI, and (fortunately) everything being OK, I gave a nod for the delivery.

2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed-img_20231224_231830.jpgStarted the ride back home with 10.8 kms on the odometer.

Ride experience
I had taken a 50 km test ride just two days prior. So no hassles on familiarity with the behaviour of the motorcycle.

The navigation feature is a boon. It bypassed the maddening traffic, took me through lanes/bylanes and in no time I was out of the limits of Guwahati city cruising towards Tezpur.

One for the road.

2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed-img20231223162242.jpg
Reached home at exactly 200kms on the odo. What a coincidence

I was riding in Eco Mode and ABS ON.
Since the bike is being run-in, I limited the rpm to below 4000. At 4000, the max speed achieved in 6th gear is 80-82 kmph which is a decent speed to cruise on any highway. I kept the rpm between 3000 and 4000 throughout in 5th and 6th gear which gave me speeds of 55-82 kmph.

Fuel Economy
The engine seemed to be lugging at 4000 rpm in 6th gear, so I used more of 5th gear which gave me an average of 33.0 kmpl which is quite impressive, though I would wait for a tankful to tankful method to confirm the actual economy figures.

The Ritual
Today's day began with a visit to the Holeshwar Mahadev Temple in Tezpur for the customary Puja ceremony, seek blessings and start our journey with Bagheera (name selected by the home ministry)

Post puja, the maiden ride with pillion was undertaken to the Mahamrityunjay Temple which, with a height of 126 foot, is the World's largest Shivalinga.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

The perspective of a relatively new rider on the New Himalayan, transitioning from the Meteor 350

The Meteor 350 is my first experience in both bike ownership and riding. Consequently, my perspective is that of a novice rider, transitioning from a cruiser and exploring an adventure tourer for the first time.

With the holidays upon us and no significant plans for the day, I decided on a ride to explore the nostalgic beauty of Bombay and capture some pictures of my bike. Additionally, a craving for the delicious Bun Mask at Jimmy Boy fueled my motivation. Following this plan, I set out from home, reaching Jimmy Boy only to find it entirely occupied by Harley riders. Opting to skip it, I turned back home.

On my way back, my motorcycle caught the eye of some enthusiasts, and she couldn't help but blush!

2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed-oldies.jpeg

With half of my plan successful (riding to town) and half drowned (missing Bun Maska at Jimmy Boy), I decided to head home for lunch.

2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed-ballard.jpg

Nevertheless, fate had different plans for me. On my way back, I noticed a couple of new Himalayans parked at the Royal Enfield FMS in Worli and thought, why not take a look at the new Himalayan?

Though I was convinced they wouldn't grant me a test ride, I entered the store, fully prepared for a potential refusal. To my surprise, there was no one around when I arrived. Understandably, it was 10:00 AM on a Christmas holiday. Eventually, a salesman greeted me, and we exchanged pleasantries. After discussing a few things, I sat on the bike to get a feel for it and casually inquired if a test ride was possible. Much to my surprise, he responded with a confident "Yes."

In Hanle Black

2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed-hanle-black.jpeg

The store impressed me with its cleanliness, classiness, and functionality. The accessories section reflected the Royal Enfield Heritage. After the formalities, the sales assistant handed me the keys and guided me on a 4 km route, telling me to "enjoy". It was an amazing experience at the store.

Filled with enthusiasm, I stepped outside, examined the bike in its Kaza Brown scheme, donned my helmet, and hopped onto the saddle. I embarked on a pleasant 4-kilometer ride along a relatively open road, and here are my observations. I won't delve into technical details, as they have been thoroughly discussed in this thread. Instead, I'll share my personal experience.

Initially, the upright sitting position may take a few minutes to adjust to, especially for a newbie or someone transitioning from a cruiser. Once settled, confidence builds, and the enjoyment begins.

Adjusting to the gear shift took some time due to my familiarity with the Meteor's gear lever. However, the Himalayan's gear shifts were noticeably smoother, and the setup felt better than the old Himalayan. The gear ratios were also improved.

The engine's punchiness became evident with sufficient traction. I experienced no lag, and the acceleration was impressive, delivering a satisfying riding experience.

The seats on the Himalayan are incredibly comfortable. In contrast, one drawback I've encountered with the Meteor is its less comfortable seats for the pillion rider, requiring some adjustments to get used to it. The Himalayan surpasses this issue by a significant margin, ensuring both the rider and pillion can enjoy a comfortable ride without experiencing those bothersome "post-ride body pains."

The suspension was well-tuned, instilling confidence even on rough patches.

The only aspect I didn't particularly like was the seating position of the Himalayan compared to the Meteor. I want to clarify that this might not be the case for everyone. Since the Meteor is my first bike and the only one, I've ridden thus far, my body has grown accustomed to its specific configuration. Even after riding for 20 minutes, I struggled to find the ideal sitting position on the Himalayan that I've grown accustomed to on the Meteor. Additionally, as mentioned by some bhpians, there's a bit of discomfort with the foot pegs' position when both feet are down, requiring careful adjustment. For context, I'm approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, and I could keep my feet flat. I'm uncertain whether the seat height was altered or if it was in its original configuration.

In conclusion, I truly liked the way they designed the new Himalayan. It's distinctly different from the current model and is undoubtedly an upgrade from the Royal Enfield 350s/410s series.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

I finally got a chance to take a test ride of the Team-BHP bike of the year. And contrary to most opinions on the forum, I mist say this is one bike that I hated in a very long time. The original Himalayan was never to my taste, and this 452 is no different.

The test bike I got to ride had 1300km on the odo, but it felt like it had done some 25-30k kms already. It felt so gruff. The engine note after 3k rpm was too loud, and it felt really irritating. This is one big bulky motorcycle. While this might be something that a lot of people might like, I just hated the feel of the bike. The front brakes were non existent and I suspect worn out brake pads as a result of abuse from multiple customers.

Long story short, I rode the bike for 700m only and safe to say given a chance, I will never ride this bike again. Himalayan's were never to my taste and the saga continues I guess.

I did not mean to offend anyone. Those were just my views. I would strongly suggest people to get the v2 of this bike if they end up liking it.

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

I took delivery of my 450 yesterday and rode across the city to return home. Coming from TBTS, there are quite a bit of newer technology which I am not familiar with. EFI, rear disk brakes, radiator, high revving engine etc.

The only issue I faced was that the Tripper Dashboard didn't connect with my Pixel 6. It connected with multiple other mobile phone models.

Can anyone who has come across this issue share any solution?

Re: 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 | Now officially revealed

Faisal Khan (Motorbeam) has reviewed the new Himalayan 450, throughout the entire review he was praising Royal Enfield for coming up with such a fast, sporty ADV. Towards the end, the bike fails to start.
And he starts praising KTM . He says Royal Enfield can never match KTM's quality and reliability. Some one needs to tell him, KTM is even worse when it comes to new launches. His love for KTM bikes is evident, he has always been a RE hater.

He could have just criticized RE for bike's failure, that would have been fair. But he used this opportunity to praise the KTM which i feel is nothing but next level Fanboyism!!

Yes, tried that too. Seems some permission missing or some other app is conflicting.
