Re: 2022 Honda CB300R Review

Hi, I got delivery of my CB300R on 5th Jan. Have mainly used it for ride to office till now, waiting for first service to take it for longer rides.

Have fit following accessories from MotoDrift HSR Layout, Bangalore
1) Moto-Torque Crash Guard
2) Zana Radiator Guard
3) Zana Top Rack
4) Bobo Mobile Holder with wireless charging
5) Name plate guards
6) PPF covering on LCD screen

Experience till now - 200+ Kms
  • Amazing pick-up, smooth maneuvering on road. I won't miss my RX135.
  • - Best clutch experience across bikes and cars. Smoothest gear shifting.
  • - Agree with all the feedback about weak headlight, horn and rear brake. Bike feels premium apart from these.
Issues that I want to discuss with Honda Bigwing during first service. Will appreciate feedback from forum members -
  1. A very minute buzz or ringing sound as bike goes over potholes or speed breakers. I am not able to figure out if it is coming from shock absorbers or some other place.
  2. Left mirror became loose most likely due to someone at office parking their bike close to mine and then trying to wiggle through the space, knocking off the mirror.
  3. Heat from the engine near your ankles. I have been told it is to be expected, but just want to hear what the service team has to say about it.
  4. Possibility of improving the rear brake.
Will share more about my riding experiences over next few weeks.

Re: 2022 Honda CB300R Review

Had the first service done by BigWing Hubli last saturday. I am living in a moderately remote town. Especially so with the BigWing service network standards. Hubli one is the nearest showroom and it is around 200km from my small town! I left early in the morning and back by evening, clocking 450km in total. The service was very fast since I was the only customer there then. They fixed the pathetic headlight somehow, it is now somewhat bearable. The service quality was okay and the total service cost was around 2000. Got seat cover for 700, looks not so great but still bought for extra protection.

I am facing few minor issues:
  • My front tyre loosing air very slowly. Sometimes air last for week and sometimes 2-3 days. I got it checked by 4 different puncture shops sofar with no luck. Any suggestions?
  • I am hearing a very small rattling noise from the front above 4000 rpm (in any gear), it is coming from the area below headlight. It's bit hard to notice, especially with helmet on but it is definitely there. The sound disappear at higher rpm. Probably due to higher pitch or louder engine sound. I am unsure if this is common or not, anyone else facing similar issue?
Rant Ahead:

Living in a small town with bike like this has its own advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that within a minute I start the engine, I will be on the one of the many country side roads with total silence and zero traffic. There is will be occasional Splendors or Passions with their raiders on lungi, other than that its mostly empty. The roads are small but surprisingly decent. You can cruise to your hearts content and do minor experiments. There are so many lakes, small hills, moderately dense forest area here but it appears that only I am excited them and actively seek them out. For the people here it is just the way it is. Or maybe I am just over reacting by comparing it to my last 10 years in Bangalore! With 3.5L on-road price, there is no other bike here which as expensive as mine. People here say that's because no one else is foolish enough to pay that much for a two wheeler.

Check the tyre valve. You can get a trye valve tool at local hardware shop for 30 bucks or ask the puncture guy to do it. The valve on my hornet used to get loose and leak air over a week or so. Also check if the rim is bent somewhere as improper fitment of the tyre can also cause leakage.

The number plate is mounted just above the headlight on CB 300r. Check all the bolts in that area. The number plate might have become loose and start resonating at particular rpm.

Re: 2022 Honda CB300R Review

Hello Everyone,
I am happy to announce that I recently took the delivery of my CB300R - matte black on 26 Jan 2023.

This bike finally ends a 7-year draught where I was without a two-wheeler and used my Jazz to commute. Before this, we had Yamaha Libero, TVS Apache 150, RE Thunderbird Twinspark in the family.

Funny part is that when I sat down and started shortlisting potential bikes this was nowhere near in the consideration. I was aware of the bike' existence and its capabilities but had some sort of a mental block (probably because of high sticker price).

So, it all started when Honda reduced the prices of CB300F by INR 64000/-.
The itch to buy a motorcycle used to surface every now and then, but with the prices slashed, I decided to enter into the ring and take a test drive. I decided to give bikes from other stable a try as by now, I was convinced that I really wanted a motorcycle.

I was mainly looking for a bike that would put a smile on my face and was VFM.
Wasn't too worried about the numbers on the spec sheet. Wanted to use it for my commutes to work and occasional touring/highway rides.

The options considered on paper (not in any particular sequence):
1) RE Hunter
2) Scram 411
3) Interceptor
4) Jawa 42
5) CB 350 RS
6) KTM Adv 390
7) CB 300F
8) Dominar 400
9) BMW GS310 R

I briefly toyed with the idea of Kawasaki Z650 and Honda 500x but then the high sticker price plus the fact that I would be riding mostly in city, I quickly crossed them out. I don't think I would have been able tap the full power of these bikes in city and that factor alone helped me in crossing out a few bikes from the list.

Final contenders:
1) RE Hunter
2) Scram 411
3) CB 300F

Started visiting the local dealers in PCMC area for test drives.

RE Hunter: The first thing that hit me is that this bike is actually bigger than that it looks. The refinement of the J Series engine is altogether on a different level and the bike pulled all the right strings. My better half too found the seats very comfortable, and she gave it a big thumbs up. I knew that this would be the bike I would end up with if nothing else works out. Good looks, nice easy revving engine at a very good price. What else one needs, right?

Scram 411: I was always fascinated by this bike and liked the overall stance and look of the bike. But this was immediately ruled out as I test drove it after I rode Hunter. The engine had a lot of vibrations and with a heavy heart crossed it out.

CB300F: I went to the PCMC Big Wing showroom along with my cousin and wife to test ride the motorcycle. The bike pulled neatly upto 70 KMPH but the overall feeling was that of similar to Yamaha FZ25. A little disappointed, I handed over the keys think about how to sum up the experience, I saw the CB300 R in the parking lot. My cousin asked for a test ride and before we could blink, the keys were handed over to us. I hopped on first and the moment, I fired up the engine, I had a grin on my face.

The bike felt effortless, and the in-gear acceleration was fantastic too.
During the test drive I had an occasion while braking I felt the rear tyre locking up and losing a bit of grip. Not sure if that was the ABS kicking in or just me riding after 7 years

My wife was worried about the pillion comfort, and it took a couple of test drives to convince her that it isn't as bad it looked.

Convinced that I found the bike I was looking for I went ahead and booked the bike.

The showrooms folks informed me that the Big Wing showrooms would only focus on 300- 500 cc bikes and the bikes above 500 cc would be sold through the Honda Gold Wing (not sure of the name though) showrooms.

They also informed me that 500x (which was recently taken off the Honda website) would be re-launched in April.

For now, I am happy that I have closed this chapter of my life which was open for the past 7 years.
I have covered just about 25 Kms on the bike till now but I think I am back in the game now.
So much so, that I have started planning for the next one 5 years down the line.

I am looking at you, Kawasaki Z650.

Cheers

Hello amvj, my question is regarding the customs duty here for those parts. When your relatives bring those parts do they face any issue at the airport customs like harassment etc. I have seen some others bring even exhaust units without issue. Before I ask any of my relatives to bring bike parts can someone clarify this? iPad and iPhone/phones are easy as they unbox the same and bring it. Could you please help me out here.

Purely depends on luck. If you or your relatives do not get caught and asked to open the luggage to find out what is inside, then you are lucky and would have avoided the customs duty. Have seen people carry helmets in hand, riding gears in luggage and smaller parts without anyone noticing. Exhausts or any bigger parts depend on luck.

Hi All, I recently did a 1200+ KM Bangalore-Goa return trip on my CB300R. Shared my thoughts about the trip here -

Re: 2022 Honda CB300R Review

Got mine delivered on Jan 7. Done with the 1st service @ 998Kms. No issues so far. Removed the saree guard as it felt really awkward !! Installed the following so far:

1. Mototorque engine guard with sliders
2. Zana Radiator guard
3. Zana Rear fluid reservoir cover
4. HJG mini drive with HJG wiring harness
5. Grand pitstop mobile holder with charger
6. Additional USB charger with switch
7. Minda horn

Regarding the weak rear break, using front break with rear provides enough stopping power. Light is weak and as well as the horn !!

Re: 2022 Honda CB300R Review

For folks interested in the CB300R, the Big Wing showroom dealership in Thane is offering a cash discount of 32k. The list price is 3.32 lakh and with this discount, it will come down to 3.00 lakh.

At this price, it's a great proposition as a city slicker & short distance tourer. The engine is a real gem and I had immense fun during the TD. Do check out the dealership, located at Panchpakhadi. They have both red and grey colours in stock.

Looks like a last ditch effort to get rid of stock before the OBD2 norms kick-in from April 1st.

PS: This is not an endorsement of any sort. Just sharing useful buying information for like minded enthusiasts!

Most likely this is the cause. I booked mine in Mysore and here there is no discount whatsoever as they have almost nil inventory. They just have 2 units of Black CB300R and couple of CB300F in Blue. Barring this they have around 5-6 CB350 & RS put together. So they are not in a hurry to offer any kind of discounts.
Works out to 3.5L on-road but it is still worth the price paid for it for the nimble agile feel, the effortless clutch action, acceleration and rideability. You can comfortably use it in the city in crowded parking spaces and not struggle to pull the bike out. In the same vein you can also cruise comfortably on the highways at legal speed limits with enough power left for those overtakes. Only downside is the smaller tank capacity but that will aid in taking a quick break included with the fuel stops on long rides!!

Owners of CB300R,

How is the pillion seat? Is it comfortable? I am planning to do a TD. but it will be awesome if someone can answer before that.

The pillion seat is uncomfortable.

There are no grab rails, the seat is small, and the footpegs are high. The throttle needs to be modulated carefully not to throw the pillion off. Tall people would not be comfortable on the pillion seat for more than 15 mins.

My wife has sat on the pillion seat for short rides of 20-30 kms and the only issue she has is getting on and off as the pillion seat is tall for her short height. Once on, she says its quite comfortable for these short journeys.

OTOH, has anyone here had the crankcase replaced as part of the recall? My bike is eligible and the BigWing Honda from where I got it said they are only doing 5 bikes a day kind of slot for this recall and it is ok to ride the bike as long as there is no leakage of oil noticed on the right side crank case.
