Forget about all the reviews, go and test ride/rent the bike and ride it yourself. I too went through multiple online reviews and had enough. Ultimately mechanical things will have issues, so no point getting the validation from everyone before going for any bike.

BTW, I am 5'10" 78 kg and the bike suits me perfectly. The Himalayan 452 is a do-it-all bike, perfect for a single bike garage (as in my case). RE sacrificed low end torque for better peak power and performance which suits this bike. Commute can be a bit of a hassle in heavy stop-go traffic, but then it was not meant to be stuck in traffic (though one would encounter such instances). I've taken the bike in quite a few places, crawling traffic, really bad roads, past 150 km/h on the expressway without any troubles. Having owned 2 stroke bikes in the past vibes are not something I have an issue with (perhaps the new gen bikers who haven't ridden the old bikes may have).

Only yesterday, the engine suddenly died in 2nd gear and wouldn't restart. The bike had to be towed with RE's RSA aid. Now being inspected and will be repaired subsequently. New products will have some niggles which have to be ironed out. But if you like the bike, totally worth the risk!

Thank you for encouraging words. In chennai there is no rental option available yet, at least I could not find any. Test rides also limited to couple of kms near showroom. They are not giving longer test rides. This looks like an arranged marriage to me

Regarding your bike, I am very sorry to hear. I am sure RE will fix it immediately. I am hearing second instance of this issue now. In a youtube video by Faizal khan I have seen similar behaviour where he was testing bikes extreme capabilities and bike died suddenly with no response from engine.

A week back when I checked for mine (dec booking), dealership person showed me an Excel document which mentioned 2 to 3 Kamet whites pending for nov month booking. Mine was like 5th or 6th in that Kamet white list

Don't worry, your wait will be worth it as Kamet White variant will get tubeless options first (as per sources)!

While Hanle Black owners will have to wait more

I had booked mine on 14th Nov. The bike has arrived at the dealership yesterday in Pune but I will cancel it since I picked up a Kaza brown from another dealership due to delay with Kamet White.

Also rented out Scrambler 400x as well and here are my observations after spending a day with each:
Very detailed analysis, and yes, I have felt the same. Would like to request you to rent out an ADV 390 too for a day and share feedback on the same. I am in a similar boat right now, planning an upgrade from a FZ25 and looking forward at the next gen ADV 390 or if its too long a wait, the current gen ADV or the NX500 (which, I know is a CBU, but somewhat overly priced and after sales can be an issue in the long term)

Hi, I do not have any plans to rent out an Adventure 390. The bike has been out for a long time now and there are many excellent ownership threads by many BHPians on our forum. They will be the ultimate guide for anyone looking for one. Some existing owners have ridden the new Himalayan and gave their opinions in this same thread. Above all, do take an extended test ride if possible or multiple test rides from various showrooms. It will clear all the confusion you might have.

My personal opinion is to wait for the updated Adventure 390 with the new engine and platform. But yeah, if it is immediately needed, a test ride is a must to check if it suits you.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

After doing approx 1000 kms got the bug of modifying the Himalayan 450 to suit my needs.

Got the following mods done on my Himalayan (apart from the usual crash guards/saddle stays, fog lights, etc etc that have been done from 1st week of ownership itself):

#1: Free Flow Filter: From way2speed. Costs 3,200/- and supposedly gives better breathability
#2: FuelXPro+: Cost some 11.5K and supposedly will improve the low-end torque issue and reduce the increased gearshifts needed (compared to Himalayan 411). It is claimed that this is tuned specially for the Himalayan 450 and comes with 10 settings from 1 to 10 ( setting #3 is stock, 1-2 are lean and 4-10 are richer as you go up). Also, supposedly makes the throttle more responsive and addresses the perceived lag in throttle response.
#3: Replace the resonator with a decat pipe: Costs some 2.5K. Did it just for the sake of it. Nothing else except to make it sound a bit better (not louder) and to just see how it makes the bike feel/sound.

Initial impressions after these mods and running the fuelXpro+ at a setting of 6 and approx 100 km or riding:

# The throttle now 'feels' snappy and instant response. After crossing 3K rpm, there were no such issues earlier also but now it is like a beast unleashed. Below that it is not struggling like before at lower speeds in higher gears. Has the issue completely gone? NO. It is a LOT LOT better than before but it is still not 100% gone. Maybe, need to check with higher settings on the maps.

# The sound is a bit more but not that too loud also. Am sure it will not attract undue attention just because of the sound.

# Overall the bike feels much much more "free/rev happy" and eager to move as a riding experience.

# The bike did stall when I got caught in peak hour jam-packed traffic (in 1st gear). So, at almost crawling speeds, still needed to use the clutch a bit. Earlier I have not been caught in peak hour traffic, so can't say how it was before or if it is a factor of my riding style. In my Himalayan 411, never had a stall issue happen in peak traffic.

# It seems strange but even after having the same riding style as before, I noticed fewer vibrations. This needs more monitoring over an extended period if this is just a perceived difference or if it is for real.

# Will be observing more as I ride with different settings of Fuel X Pro+ from 3(stock) and then moving up 1 at a time and seeing how it changes the bike behavior. Need to see what will suit my riding needs and style the best.

Not sure of the warranty aspects due to these mods and will cross the warranty bridge when it comes and if it comes.

Here are some pics of the mods/install:

The wiring of the Fuel X Pro+ is being done. Though the race-dynamics website has detailed instructions etc, I would still prefer this install to be done by a person who knows what they are doing. It is one DIY that I would skip just because of the tricky access to the lambda sensor placement, the removal of the tank, and some other stuff that needed to be removed.

And as had no bag on hand, had to carry the resonator in the small dirt-sack bag. :-)

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Keep the setting at 8. That's what the Bengaluru based BigBear garage is advising (His personal opinion)

manaslu@2028, a little birdie tells me that Royal Enfield has improved the supply of their Kamet White Himalayan 450s. Yes, dealers are still fulfilling bookings from November but in a few weeks time, they should have cleared out the backlog. I found 4 Kamet White bikes waiting for delivery at a dealership. So, your wait should not continue for much longer.

I will wait for it then. Just need to find a shop where I can physically compare the different brands before making the decision.
