The dreaded 'APS Failure' issue has come back to haunt me and has been recurring for the last month or so. Scenarios where the issue pops up for sure -> When you take a break (fuel /water etc) in the middle of a highway ride and if & when you undertake shorter start-stop rides within town. RPM wouldn't cross 4500 and you'll feel like you are riding a 100CC bike all of a sudden!

Now to the efforts to resolve the issue ->The service center (apparently after consultation with RE guys at the backend) installed a new APS Sensor once again (the whole handle bar throttle set was replaced). I have to check if it works or not over a period of atleast a month or two again. Fingers crossed!
After patiently waiting out 13-14 months (for the initial niggles etc to be ironed out + launch of tubeless rims) + the start of a new manufacturing year - I was looking at booking my Him450 in the next month or so.

And reading about old issues like these resurfacing again puts a doubt in the mind as to whether to go ahead and book, or wait some more.

Plus, the likely launch of the Him 750 in the not-to-distant-future has also added a new dimension to my purchase dynamics.
FYI, I am into hardcore long distance touring, with negligible off-roading - due to which my trustworthy & super-reliable service centre head (also a seasoned fellow rider & a good friend) advised me that the Him 750 with its twin cylinder engine & other attributes would be a better choice for me.

Not that the Him 450 is a bad option, just that with the Him 750 about 12-15 months away, it would probably make sense to wait a bit more and get that.

And so the mental dilemma continues!

Wow! This is a very informative and detailed write-up on your trip!
Any recommendations of which city/ town to stay for the night during the Nagpur-Kolkata leg of the trip, other than Sambhalpur/ Keonjhar. Will be travelling with family and pets.

Due to certain challenges, the maximum distance I 've dared to cover on a single trip is around 1300 KM (4-wheeler). I've been planning a Mumbai-Kolkata-Mumbai road trip for quite some time now, but some personal concerns have held me back. Your article is giving me hope! Maybe I'll finally be able to solve the logistical issues and get this 4000 KM+ trip done and dusted!

There will always be a bike coming 12-15 months away. You are just wasting precious riding time if you keep waiting for the next best thing. I would buy a bike from the current crop and start enjoying life now.

Of course your time, money and choice

Cheers

It is not 12-15 months for you right? You need to wait another "13-14 months (for the initial niggles etc to be ironed out + launch of tubeless rims) + the start of a new manufacturing year.." etc right...

So it is a total of 25-29 months wait overall.. And then what if RE comes up with a new one by then!!

Well said! One has to really wait for 2-3 years to be assured of a reasonable niggle free experience. Then a new model appears on the horizon and the next 2-3 year cycle starts.

Enjoying life thoroughly 😇 Been riding and touring all across India on my RE Thunderbird since 12+ years.

For me the Himmy will be an add-on motorcycle, so waiting for it doesn't disturb my ride plans in any way.

But yeah, I get your point.

Haha 😄 Yeah! Waiting is a necessity. For any new launch.

Like the other members have mentioned, there will always be a 'so called better bike' about to be launched whenever someone's buying a bike

When my Himalayan450 was delivered in Feb, 2024, I faced the dilemma of having to let go of the about to be launched new KTM 390 ADV!

Now, am I regretting my decision in hindsight. Hell No . When it's niggle-free, Himalayan450 is a brilliant mile muncher (good engine performance, brilliant suspension, pretty good rider's triangle, stock seat is OK, rally seat may improve seating ergonomics further).
I hope RE sorts out the minor niggles sooner rather than later

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Recently visited Mandalapatti peak in Coorg and took my Himmy 450 on the offroad track. Its about 3 Km one way. The bike flew over the 3 Km of rock, boulder and mud track and had no issues whatsoever.

Being my first time off-roading, I was apprehensive, but it boosted my confidence so much.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Hi all, planning to get my Himalayan 450 and wanted to check you all on where to buy it, since service of the vehicle is my main concern. Also, let me know if I can expect any discounts either on vehicle or addons.
Thanks.

Through the MIY purchase method on the RE website, you can expect a 20% discount on bundled accessories.
I have custom configured my Him450 + accessories through their MIY configurator and saved it (since 2 months). Saw a 20% discount on the bundled accessories that I had selected.

I'm sure discounts on accessories is also possible at dealership level. Of course the discount % would depend on what and how many accessories you will be buying.

Thanks. I just booked my bike last Monday from Kwality Mobikes .

They did not offer anything on the bike , however, as you mentioned, they offered on discounts ranging from 5-10-15% for purchases between >5k, >10k & 15k purchases from the showroom.

My main concern was about service, did not find any negative reviews online, atleast from my search. Hope there won't be any issues in future.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Did a TD of the Himalayan 450 today. This bike is big and all 6'4" of me felt at home on a bike for what felt like the first time. For context - I've never tried out a proper big bike before, been contented with commuter bikes.

The engine has the capacity to dish out acres of power - just that you need to be in the right gear to harness all of that. And so I downshifted in traffic from 3rd to 2nd and the bike reared up a bit when I let go of the clutch with the ambient RPMs! I don't think I was revving the engine at that point.

They said that tubeless tires are very much available, which I prefer.

What I didn't like was the constant buzz everywhere.

At ~ 3.5 lacs on road, it makes me pause a bit though. I have to start acting like an Indian dad with 2 daughters and maybe sacrifice all of these creature comforts in life. When will I grow up and start acting like I'm 41?

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

My Himalayan 450 has done around 2500 km. I recently did a 500+ km trip from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. During the later part of my ride and then onwards, I noticed that during quick acceleration in upwards of 3rd gear, I could hear a distinct engine knocking or pinging sound between 3500 and 4000 RPM. I have followed the running-in process as prescribed in the Owner's manual and have never exceeded the prescribed RPM limits. Also, I have made sure that I keep varying the RPM.

Has anyone seen this? Does anyone know what the reason could be? Can this harm the piston and connecting rod? How do I fix this?
