Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Assuming many early release bikes have hit the 20k+ kms mark. Without going thru 100s of pages, what are the major reliability issues being reported? Assuming most have some fixes.

I found the kick stand to be a major issue with my short legs. Anyone working on a solution? Found Rally Raid has a lowering link but don't want to go that route.

Otherwise a fantastic buy for us in the US. We don't have many other choices at this price point. No been able to ride the CF Moto 450. Once I have a chance to compare, may upgrade from the 411. This will be a second bike to ride BDRs and light touring.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Mine was the first bike, chassis number 004. I have no niggles to report in this year, except the engine vibrations. The stand does lean too much but I solved it with rubber bush. The bike is reliable (I have not exceeded 80 KMPH, and service on the dot standing with the bike). Mileage is between 30-32 KMPL. I'm happy with overall service at company owned BTM Garage. Bills are very low as well. Next add-on will be Metz Tourance Tyres from TorqueBlock. 2025 plans; I may buy the CF Moto 450 on launch itself, not sure when that may happen.

My bike completed a year and 11000+ KMs so far. The only niggle faced - 'APS Failure / Error in selected ride mode' error popping up on couple of occasions(the bike wouldn't cross 4500 RPM with muted acceleration). APS sensor was promptly replaced under warranty by RE on both occasions. Last time it was replaced was about a month back and the issue hasn't recurred so far.
Apart from this one issue, the bike has been a joy to ride

Any recommendations of which city/ town to stay for the night during the Nagpur-Kolkata leg of the trip, other than Sambhalpur/ Keonjhar. Will be travelling with family and pets.

Due to certain challenges, the maximum distance I 've dared to cover on a single trip is around 1300 KM (4-wheeler). I've been planning a Mumbai-Kolkata-Mumbai road trip for quite some time now, but some personal concerns have held me back. Your article is giving me hope! Maybe I'll finally be able to solve the logistical issues and get this 4000 KM+ trip done and dusted!
I apologize for the delayed response. I've been tied up with work commitments.

Between Nagpur and Kolkata, there are three significant cities: Raipur, Sambalpur, and Jamshedpur. Raipur is located just 285 kilometers from Nagpur (hence not an option at all), while Jamshedpur is 983 kilometers away (too far). Sambalpur is roughly in the middle, about 560 kilometers from Nagpur, which is why I opted for that route. Additionally, I wanted to catch up with a friend. You should also decide whether to travel through Simdega or Keonjhar, as the road conditions from Keonjhar to the Jharkhand border are not very good. Sambalpur is the city where you make that decision.
Thanks!!

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Guys, I had my H450 delivered 11 days ago and completed 120 kms in local city runs. Today decided to hop put for a weekend ride and all of a sudden on starting bike I get the APS failure error. I never knew about this, until I stumbled upon this thread. It seems even after replacing various sensors and wiring kit, the issue didn’t seemed to resolve. What surprised me is my bike is feb 2025 MY and still the recurring issues since last year. I highly regret my decision of purchase considering I’m in the first week of ownership yet. If anyone figured out a more effective solution, could you please help out? I have an appointment booked for tomorrow, but I doubt those dimwits would do anything more than a software reset

The APS sensor issue is rooted to the right hand switchgear assy which controls the throttle body. There have been intermittent issues of this popping up when the bike has been pressure washed and water not air dryed enough. RE acknowledged this issue and have replace the right switchgear under warranty which seems to solve the issue. Would recommend you to consult with RE for the above recall/replacement protocol from the factory.

Cheers!

Thank you! As of now the bike lies in service center awaiting approval for replacement. Just a quick question, i have seen some users reporting failures even after module replacement with some getting their whole wiring replaced. Its been over a year, hasnt RE found a concrete soln for it yet ?

I know this is going to be extremely frustrating. However, hope for the best and maybe it's a simple swap out for you right hand module fixes everything! Don't expect RE to iron out anything anytime soon. It's the brand name which they maintain

OT : The last outgoing himmy411 was also not perfect there were issues from gen 1 plaguing in that!

Just got my bike delivered today with the module replaced. Hope this doesn't pop up anytime soon.

When I requested to inspect the bike before making the payment, they informed me that visiting their depot was not permitted. Instead, they offered to bring the bike to their showroom on the 26th, where I could view it; however, it would be used as a display piece for one week until registration was completed.
I just made payment yesterday. Told them that I would like to inspect the bike before registration and they mentioned that they will call me for inspecting the bike. They will be delivering it next Monday. Seems like a dealership issue here.

First up, congratulations on your Himalayan450
And coming to the point of APS failure error, I feel you need not worry about it much. Yes, RE will take some time in fixing the issue for you. I've come to believe, after my own ongoing experience with the same issue, that RE is taking an incremental approach towards resolving this issue. They will try to resolve it with minimum possible effort/replacements initially. But once they realize that the issue is there for real, they'll start taking the replacements approach. Nevertheless, be a little patient, but ask for proper resolution at the same time. Only thing is, your time will be wasted for these service center visits.
Bottomline: The bike has quite a few positive aspects about it. You've got to live with slightly under par quality control and after sales service. Try to maintain better relations with the service center guys, they'll try to earnestly resolve your issues.

Thank you !! Agreed they were a bit reluctant in replacing it first, rather they were just opting for cleaning and fitting it back. Even after the error popping up again the RE engineering team was requesting them the logs for replacement approval. All said and done, looking forward to enjoy the bike now
