I noticed you got the BA series. Did you open up the series to get the choice number?

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Saw a bike at the garage cafe today with he cross spoke wheels, it has a kind of brushed aluminium look to it & is more of orangish than gold. However currently orders for the cross spoke wheels are stopped. Any idea when would they start accepting orders again??

Overall, I think this motorcyle will make a good highway tourer and offroader. Seems good value for money for what they are offering, especially the Showa suspension.
But we do not get into highways without passing through city traffic, and that's where new Himalayan falls short. Anyone looking for a single all rounder bike with bangalore like city traffic should look elsewhere. My CBR 250 felt so light weight, easy to ride and refined in city after the test ride.
Hey need your opinion on this. I'm also riding a CBR 250R (shifted on this from Bullet 350 just last year after 8 years). And my eyes are on the Himalayan 450 since last year, only released in Nepal this year. But the Triumph Scrambler 400 is also launched recently now and as I know it's not that close a comparison I'm stuck here. Himalayan costs NPR 10 lacs here whereas the Triumph is 6.89 lacs. Himalayan feels way more advanced and better built but Triumph seems way lighter and easier on the pocket for road taxes as well (only 12k per year compared to 450's 25k per year). Also I'm more inclined on a light option since it'll majorly be my daily commuter and the occasional long tourer. However with Nepal's extreme road conditions I feel like the Himalayan would be the better choice in the city as well as the basic touring, off-roading options. Please advise me on my dilemma as I'm unsure of what to do.

Triumph makes sense as your usage is primarily city commuting and occasional touring as you mention. It is lighter and smaller size makes it easy for flick-ability and parking on tight spaces. I found Himalayan to be top heavy, which is not easy to move when idle.

But you will miss the excellent suspension of the Himalayan and the big bike feel, especially on touring. If your city usage is mostly extreme off road and traffic/ parking is not much of an issue in in your city, you may go for himalayan.

That's too long of a waiting period.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

So did a cold start this morning and voila; my clutch cable gave up

Now the task is how to take the motorcycle to the workshop. Was thinking of pushing the motorcycle and putting in 1st gear and continue gear shifts with blips but later dropped the idea.

Now one idea came up, I guess most seasoned riders here use it but I did it for the first time.

I ended up using a locally sourced clutch cable meant for using Bajaj / Piaggio 3-wheelers and it worked wonderfully for rescuing the motorcycle from this situation.

Step 1: Disconnect the clutch cable from the lever end as well as the lifter arm end near the engine case.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review-img_5064.jpeg

Step 2: Hold the cable end at the lifter arm’s end with a plier and pull out the entire inner cable. Make sure that clutch cable outer shell remains as it is in its position, only the inner cable needs to be dragged out

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review-img_5056.jpeg

Step 3: Take the new clutch inner cable and push the open end from the lever’s side slowly until the open comes out on the other side.

This inner clutch cables are easily available in any spare parts shop and costs ₹40 max with the cable locking nut included.

Step 4: Use the locking nut to hold the cable at the lifter arms’ end to lock the cable according to the length, the lifter arm needs to be pushed manually to the end where the clutch play ends and clutch engagement starts. The locking nut needs to be put inside the lifter arms bracket where usually the clutch cable end pin goes. The locking nut acts as a cable end pin.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review-img_5080.jpeg

Step 5: Put the starting tip of the cable in the lever slot. For Himalayan’s lever the slot is a bit wide therefore the plastic bracket needs to be inserted though the cable before pushing it through.

Step 6: Make clutch adjustments as per requirements and tie up the additional extra cable or cut it off near the lifter arms’ end as suitable.

Step 7: You should be good to go now and this cable can last for a considerable time if used judiciously till proper service / replacement is done.

Thought of sharing this as it can be a life saver during critical times in remote places.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Got my Tubeless Spoke Wheels for my Himalayan 450 installed yesterday, the kit arrived 3 days back and I was told to come over the next day...only went in yesterday to get it fixed.
The kit came with tubeless spoke wheels with discs, hub, and the valve. My old wheels with disc, tube and hub were returned.

Steering the bike feels easier, may be my mind is playing tricks for now. :-)

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

While I can really appreciate the fact that these are finally available, can't help but wonder about the stupidity of not making them available in the beginning itself. As you can see, people are interested in this and will go for this, which will mean, the old ones will just lay there gathering dust and rust - what a waste of resources.

This needs to be taken up with the Bureau of Indian Standards. They were ones who delayed the tubeless rims for India. Tubeless rims were being provided on the export models.

The rims are metal. They can be recycled / reused.

Which dealership and when you ordered I'm just fed up with the non-existent timelines RE is playing with since the start and my dealer in particular is not an enthusiast in servicing or providing good services!
