Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

I had a quick question about the rear tyre. I am looking to change my stock tyres to ReiseMoto TourRs. However, the only rear tyre available is 140/70-17. The stock rear tyre is 140/80-17. Is this advisable to make this change? I am unable to find the 140/80-17 with any manufacturer.

My primary purpose is long rides, mostly on tarmac. Also, this is for the tubeless rims. Thanks

There's MRF Revz too.

https://www.mrftyres.com/product/two...-69h-revz-k-tl

If you are willing to spend more, Shinko is another popular choice.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Last week, I contacted the call center and was informed that the bike would be delivered after the second week of March. They reiterated their FIFO policy and refused to refund the Rs. 20,000 advance. I then raised a case with the consumer forum, and shortly after, they called to inform me that the bike would arrive on 24th February, insisting that I come in to make the payment. I decided to wait until the bike arrived before making any payment.

The deposit was paid on 8th Jan, with indication bike will be delivered in 2 weeks and even the booking receipt indicated delivery date was 28th Jan.

Today, I received a call stating that the bike has arrived and requesting payment. They mentioned that it would take one week to complete the registration process after payment.

When I requested to inspect the bike before making the payment, they informed me that visiting their depot was not permitted. Instead, they offered to bring the bike to their showroom on the 26th, where I could view it; however, it would be used as a display piece for one week until registration was completed.

Dealing with RE has been extremely frustrating. Their procedures seem to follow their own unique set of rules. I have purchased many vehicles before and have always been able to inspect them prior to registration.

Even if I forfeit the Rs. 20,000 deposit, I will not be buying from RE. This has been by far the most disappointing retail experience I have ever had.

Maybe it is just my bad luck, or all that pampering by RE fanboys has gotten their head!

Taking a non-refundable deposit and then handling the situation this way is completely unacceptable. I highly doubt they would treat anyone other than Indian customers in this manner, which is truly unfortunate.

It has now been five weeks, and there is still no sign of delivery. Had I known there was no committed timeline, I would never have made the deposit. I’m not an RE fanboy—just a customer looking to buy a bike.

This has been extremely inconvenient, as I sold my previous bike based on their original commitment and now have to rely on Ola for my daily office commute.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Upgrade post:
1. Changed the stock Ceat Tyres to Metzeler Tourance. The tyre profile was same as OEM tyres from CEAT.
Total cost ~39k including installation. It wasn't easy process particularly due to the fact that (a) I have main stand removed which makes every mechanic hate me, (b) cross spoke rims which make makes a lot of mechanics sweat thinking about potential damages, (c) The stock tyre sidewall is hard, and also cross spokes on 21 inch wheel is not easy for tyre removal.

I purchased the tyres from torque block and these guys delivered it superstar, next day delivery from Bangalore to Delhi. I intended to do most of my rides on tarmac with some on dirt trails, but definitely not mud or sand which is where it will loosen out its grip. On tarmac its a very sticky tyre and I could immediately feel the difference. I was able to lean into corners very confidently and the braking performance was significantly better. That all being said, the stock Ceats aren't bad at all. They hold excellent value for money for their price and I don't see a better all rounder alternative in that bracket but I wanted something very grippy.

2. Switched the spark plugs from stock champion plugs to NGK Laser Iridium plugs. These cost me 2500rs. There really isn't any significant difference in performance however the engine feels a little more smooth now. I have a ECU+AFR+exhaust+air intake .. all modified, so this was something long due as it'd be able to combust all that addition fuel more efficiently.

3. I also took the 49T sprocket I purchased from Race Factory to installation again as in last attempt few months back at ~1.5k kms on the odo, we didn't have enough chain slack to play around. Unfortunately the mechanics noticed that the finishing of the sprocket was very poor and it'd 9/10 seriously damage the stock chain which pushed me back . I will review alternate options such as AOM sprocket to see if their quality is better. Another parallel option is to get the Race Factory sprocket to someone who can give it proper finishing using milling. Will update on this once I have finalized.

49T sprocket is one mod am looking forward to but only race factory pops up on Google and feedback is mixed. Yours is actually showing that they lack thr finesse. A.O.M is actually 2999 now and they seem to have good reputation around motorcycle mods but I don't find much around experiences from anyone who has used it.

My bike has done very low kms so I dont think the chain is going to have enough slack so am going to have to wait. But this is one mod am really wanting to do.

Please do share your feedback and pics if you do get AOM sprocket.

That looks like hot garbage honestly. The finish looks absolutely terrible like it was finished with hand filing. All those imperfections might create stress concentration and probably might even break a tooth or two under load.

Sorry to hear about your ordeal. That's a bad way to treat a customer but as you mentioned RE dealers are aware that customers will come back to them no matter what.

Which dealer is this? Asking as when I bought SM650, I was not pressurized to complete payment until I did a PDI. This was at Kwality motors, Banashankari.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

This is the company showroom in Jayanagar. I'm suspecting they have not got the bike yet, as they said they will "try" to get the bike to the showroom on 26th - for me to see.

I agree my troubles are due to the RE Fan boys...and will put the blame on them.

Dominar ones. The 250s/390s now get the same.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Finally, they informed they will get the bike on Tuesday (25th instead of the 26th Feb) to see it in the showroom. A relative of mine informed, this kind of "reactive" customer support is quite common with RE and recommended I go ahead. Hence, I saw the bike and made the payment...but quite nervous about the ownership experience. Will keep fingers crossed.

I have to say, the individual staff in the store are not the problem. The guys on the floor are passionate about the job they do.

It is RE as a company, that seems have quite a bit of an ego.... probably a leadership issue!

Given that they are able to address customer priorities in a reactive manner, why cannot they do it proactively?

Do you know if the fitting requires any special adapters? Or is it as simple as remove stock mirrors and fit the dominar ones.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Has anyone faced alignment issues with the Himalayan 450 handlebar? When aligned straight with the Showa markings of the front suspension, the handle is tilted to the right. Please suggest how to rectify as the service center guys are unable to solve this issue.

Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Review

Assuming many early release bikes have hit the 20k+ kms mark. Without going thru 100s of pages, what are the major reliability issues being reported? Assuming most have some fixes.

I found the kick stand to be a major issue with my short legs. Anyone working on a solution? Found Rally Raid has a lowering link but don't want to go that route.

Otherwise a fantastic buy for us in the US. We don't have many other choices at this price point. No been able to ride the CF Moto 450. Once I have a chance to compare, may upgrade from the 411. This will be a second bike to ride BDRs and light touring.
