Re: Whoa LML? Whither LML?

hello,
here are pictures of a brand new LML NV LS i happened to spot in goa in May 2012.Love the candy red color,at first glance i thought somebody had done up an old LML, but, to my surprise everything looked brand new. I waited for the owner to turn up and he confirmed he had just bought it. It had electronic start and disk brakes, 150cc engine, 4 stroke. I fell in love at first sight. SIGH

@ Savio
Are they coming back?

This is a sort of retro and could compete with Vespa considering the price tag as well.

The color looks delicious though!!

Yes arnab, they are back and yes I do feel they will give Vespa good competition. I, for one love the classic models and yes, they have recently launched the LML STAR EURO 150 automatic but, only in Ahmedabad. Looking forward to seeing them launched in other states as well. Here are some pictures of their advertisements. Exciting times ahead, still no reviews though.

Re: Whoa LML? Whither LML?

Hi all,
I always loved the LML's for their sheer power, affordability and its willingness to go wherever you dared to take them. In the late 90's, I used to often use one that belonged to my cousin while on summer vacations in Goa. And boy it took us everywhere ('cause it was the only mode of transportation we had). We went rambling, fishing, swimming, for weddings, to church, family occasions, football games, you name it. The good old LML took us everywhere and did its job well.

It never really failed us, even with four on board. I remember all of Goa had them, they were very popular and those where the days of Bajaj, LML and the one and only, automatic, Kinetic. So, lots of fond memories. As years went by, came the Honda Activa and we even bought one, infact, we have one from the first lot. Time went by and I missed the LML for its ruggedness and power of the 150cc, 2-stroke engine. And then all of a sudden there were no more new LML’s sold.

Finally in the year 2008 I found a pre-worshipped LML NV Spl, 2001 model (owned by a lady, mind you) and I was very happy to buy it from her. And so, this was the scooter to be left in Goa for use whenever we visited. Time went by and we got busy with life and my work took me places and the scooter was left in one of my younger cousins care, who, really didn't care for her. Sadly, he just used and abused her and finally left her parked for the last 4 years. I recently came back and was over whelmed to see her in the run down condition that she was in, not even a drop of petrol in the tank, the wheels jammed and I don’t know what else. I loved her and I had to rescue her. Picked her up, got the basics done, got her running and transported her to Mumbai. I still see a lot of these LML’s maintained and kept by their owners in Goa to get their heavy work done. Like, transporting sacks of grain, gas cylinders, etc. After all these years, they are very much the workhorses they were meant to be. RESPECT.

I am very impressed and inspired by some of the senior BHPian’s like Mr. Hillram, with what they have achieved. Thanks to Team-BHP, I have a new passion now, to, completely restore her to her former glory. It is indeed a classic. Some pictures of her after the rescue.

I can relate to you there @Savyo. My LML NV used to ferry me places where i would risk taking any motorcycle. I have crisscrossed entire Goa from Karwar, and would still get some 50kms per litre! Loved those Memories!!

Re: Whoa LML? Whither LML?

Thanks savyo for the pictures. LML is a lovely scooter & has its own class in the scooter segment.

Posting my LML Supremo which I restored at home partially (only externals), as the mechanics were fine & hence did not touch it.

The New NV (the red one you have posted) looks similar to Supremo on many aspects (storage, rear part, etc.). Is this vehicle newly launched? Because I did not see any of them in Mysore/Bangalore.

Also, any idea about the rear chrome carrier? I want to change the one which my vehicle has to the new one.

Supremo has many features like auto start, brake light indicator, speed control & real fun to drive. You feel, you are sitting on an elephant as it is very tall.

Thanks & keep this post alive by posting your restoration.
All the LML spares in original are available in JC Road (of-course, premium price). I Paid Rs. 600 for tail lamp cover.

Regards, Ananth

Sorry i was out of town, but, wow your supremo looks awesome.

Actually,i saw the new NV only once, never really saw it again. The owner did tell me that the dealership was in St. Inez, Panjim, Goa. (But, i wonder if the dealership still exists) Also i was told the NV costs 69k (4 stroke, with disk breaks)on road in goa. I wonder if there would be any takers at that price.

What we know now is that LML has launched the new Star Euro 150 Automatic, only in Ahmedabad. (see my previous post) I do have the addresses of the two dealers. Maybe you can source the chrome carrier from there for now. I plan to do the same.

I remember one of my friends dad owned one way back and it looked amazing, as there was no machine like that on the streets.

Maybe you can help me source parts as i need them.

Just uploading another picture taken during the days I first acquired her.

Hi Ramdas
If you are coming from JC Road entrance (From Minerva circle, that is the only way actually as it is one way), in the first signal take a left turn. After say about 200 yards, keep looking at the right side shop. Just before "Amardeep Automobiles", you would find a shop in the basement with LML Logos. He has all the spares in LML original packing. But he charges excess I felt.

Re: Whoa LML? Whither LML?

Hi Ananth,

Thanks for the information, I require a electronic ignition set for my LML Select. The next time I visit J.C.Road I will source it from the place which you have suggested. Please post few more pictures of the progress in your Supremo restoration.

Regards,

Ramdas
