Re: Ford Fiesta : Test Drive & Review

In 2019, does the discontinued used NFF petrol makes sense?

I am looking to replace our D1 sedan with a C2 sedan. Now although the rear bench is not a fit for 3, I think that comparing the positives and negatives of the other competing sedans, I can manage it. The other one that I am seriously evaluating is the Vento.

I am of the informed opinion that the Ti-VCT engine is fairly reliable for around 3 lakh kilometres if treated well. The Ford service as of today, in our region, is at par with the likes of Maruti. So spares is not an issue.

Take the plunge?

Of course, the Merc is more powerful, but Fiesta stands on it own in terms of steering feedback, chassis stability in cornering, AC, music system (yes!) etc.

I also learnt that the doors are made of Boron steel (same as in S class and Volvos for better side impact protection) which are not available in C/E class

Just wanted to say that Ford made a gem of a car for enthusiasts(
Oh man, tear drops roll down my cheeks. How I wish the Fiesta was still around . It would have been an upgrade with eyes closed for me from my 2012 Figo. The driving pleasure that my beauty gives me now can only be matched by such a car from the same stable.

Re: Ford Fiesta : Test Drive & Review

Faced a very awkward issue today while driving the Fiesta on a hill.

Today was an embarrassing day for a Fiesta owner. It happened that I had to stop on an incline (fairly steep, but not unviable). While I began to start over again in 1st gear, the car felt powerless. It stalled again and again, even when I was fully flooring the gas and declutching slowly. It could simply not produce enough torque for the wheels to move. Then I had to restart from the beginning of the incline and keep the car in turbo-zone in 1st gear to cross the incline. Now, I just want to know whether the starting torque (@ <1000 rpm) is so less for Fiesta or is there some fault in my car?

Considering I have two Old Ford Fiesta's (2006 and 2009), I would recommend you go ahead with the NFF if spares and service in your area are good. I bought the second one because of service in my area and how good the first one was (handling, comfort and practicality)

The initial torque is poor, but the engine revs higher, that's the trade off. I've experienced the same in stop and go traffic, compared to my punto, lugging is not easy. It's not good on inclines in multilevel parking lots. Clutch wear over time could also a contributing factor.

Re: Ford Fiesta : Test Drive & Review

Just an update about my Fiesta 1.5 TDCI at 85k now.
  • I switched from oversized Bridgestone shoes to default 195/60R15 Michelin P3STs about a year ago. Steering wheel felt lot more lighter, and overall, car felt a bit more lighter to maneuver.
  • Had a weird puncture in one of the front tyre sidewall, so was not repairable. Looked like a razorblade cut, so don't know if some intentionally did it since I hadn't driven over bad potholes/big rocks in a long time.
  • Anyhow, replaced the tyre @Madhu's in Bangalore, P3ST was not available and was advised to replace with P4ST instea. Don't see any difference in handling. Will be going for a wheel balance / alignment soon.
  • Car is covering most of it's distance on highways, rest of it in Bangalore city. City mileage has been around 15kmpl, and highway mileage has been around 15-17kmpl, since I am usually heavyfooted on the highways ().
  • I have been noticing a small whistle like wind noise in the car when I go past 80 (or 100kmph). To be honest not sure if this was already there and if it's normal, because usually the music would be on and this goes unnoticed. Any suggestions on wind noise on the Fiesta? What's normal and what might need to be checked.
  • Planning on making some changes to improve performance as well as mileage while keeping things stock, as I am taking out the car more frequently for highway runs (before it used to be public transport)
    • Keep a light weight foot, stick in the 80kmph zone and go to higher gears quickly. Hope I can do it. Plus make smoother gear changes and smoother acceleration, while being easy on the pedals.
    • Hoard fewer things in the boot to make the car lighter.
    • Ford service advisor had suggested to go for a clutch overhaul at the 80k service since according to him clutch feels a bit heavy / shifts are a bit hard, though he did say it can wait till next service/ another 10-15k. He mentioned the mileage might improve by 1-2kmpl. Would hard clutch make such an impact and is the overhaul worth it? (no clutch repair / overhaul done so far).
    • Switch to synthetic oil? what kind of impact can one expect with mileage / performance with synthetics. And any specific suggestions for 1.5TDCi.
    • Any other suggestions on this topic?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Ford Fiesta : Test Drive & Review

Have recently tried Liqui Moly's "Diesel Purge" in my 70k run Fiesta. Boy oh Boy, it makes a big difference. NVH levels have seen a good improvement also the engine note is very nice now. Even i presume FE has improved. But I don't have any objective measurements right now. Would recommend it to you guys.

I directly poured it into the fuel tank with 1/2 tank diesel.

Check the turbo and turbo hose. Are you seeing a loss in performance as well after 80-100? That's the turbo kicking in but whistling is a bit abnormal given you've noticed it for the first time in a while.

the sound seems to be coming from somewhere in the wind shield area / wiper area, audible once car crosses 80-90kmph. Turbocharger would kick in far sooner that this right. And I believe turbo sound would last a second or two just when the turbo kicks in. Where as this sound is more like a constant wind swishing noise. And there's no performance loss whatsoever. I will see if I can record and share it here. Have seen some similar videos in youtube though, where the culprit was loose spot in the frontdoor beeding.

Re: Ford Fiesta : Test Drive & Review

A friend is looking forward to buy a 2012 diesel trend with 72k odo. The car feels ok, but according to him the gear lever had some play. Also there was a humming noise from the tyres. The owner said that he upsized the tyres MRF zlo when the car was new. It's quite possible that the reason for noise is hard tyres. The engine sounds ok and there were no squeak or noise from the suspension and cabin. Bumpers are repainted and headlights have turned yellow. Also there is a crack in outer tail lamp of left side. The radio antenna is on the last legs and driver side seat adjuster lever is broken.
How easy or difficult are these parts to source?

Is it advisable to buy this car at this stage? If yes, What are other points to look out for? And what should be the fair price? The owner is asking for around 2.75 lakhs.

Hey pkrish, what was the size of these oversized Bridgestones? I need to change tyres on my 2015 TDCi. Have been thinking about upsizing to 205. Is it not a good idea?

On mine initially it was 205/65/R15 from previous owner; as per upsize norms/safety, way too big. So downsized after sometime to stock size P3STs. But 205/60/R15 would be ideal, and seems to be just 1.99% bigger than stock tyres, and believe you can go till 2% without safety concerns. [Heck even with my over-oversize tyres I mentioned above, car felt awesome but a bit heavier in lower speeds maybe, but didn't have problems with tyres touching the body or anything]. So you can go for 205/60/R15 safely I think. On a quick search, doesnt look like you can get P3ST/P4ST in this size though, not sure, so might have to go for others.

After coming down to stock size, mileage increased a bit, but I also felt there is a noticeable difference in grip/confidence in corners, and can't carry the same amount of speeds in corners as before.

Just updating my old post on the issue I had/swishing noise. Culprit was the windshield sealant becoming hard over time, causing lose fitment of windshield. Eventually got windshield replaced via insurance, since there were few highway stone chips on windshield, and wanted to get rid of them as well. Post that, all good.

Re: Ford Fiesta : Test Drive & Review

2013 Global Ford Fiesta Titanium Ownership Review

This is a detailed ownership Review of our 2013 Global Ford Fiesta Titanium.

Apologies if I am hijacking someone's thread.

Having completed 10+ Years of Glorious & Cherished Ownership of our Beloved 2013 Global Ford Fiesta in January this Year, I thought now would be the Right Time to discuss about our Ownership of this fabulous Car. This Car was way ahead of it’s time in 2013 with Bluetooth Connectivity on the ICE, Voice-activation for ICE & Climate Control which is what impressed my Daughter who joined us for the Test Drive arranged by Cauvery Ford, Footwell Lamps for the Front Passengers, ORVM’s Auto Fold/Unfold upon Door Lock/Unlock etc.. This is a fairly long post.

PMS:

Regular Maintenance involving Engine Oil Change, Oil/Air Filter, Cabin Filter Clean/Replace religiously followed and implemented every 10,000 kms. / 1 Year per Ford specifications. All PMS carried out initially at Cauvery Ford, Magadi Road, from where our Purchase was made, thereafter Metro Ford, Yeshwanthpur (before it became KIA, Yeshwanthpur), and finally now PPS, Yelahanka. The Service Bills have usually been in the Range of `5,500 to `9,000 asides a few instances where change of major parts was required which is when the Bill may have gone upto `20,000. An instance was the very last PMS carried out where, per Ford specifications, the Timing Chain/Belt had to be replaced at about 1,00,000 kms. (I am unable to recollect the exact nomenclature of the part. It is mentioned in the Invoice Bill). The In-city mileage is about 13-15 kmpl in Bengaluru. The Highway Figures, even after 10 Years, is between 19-21 kmpl with 5 Passengers & a full compliment of Luggage in the Boot when doing speeds between 90-120 km/h. All the Mileage Figures are as per Tankfull to Tankfull method with full time A/c..

Parts Replaced:

a. Faulty Door locks (all 4 Doors) replaced under Warranty as per Ford’s Recall.

b. Faulty Wheel Lugnuts replaced (all 4 Wheels) as I was unable install the Stepney, after a Puncture as the Lugnuts were just slipping despite my using the Ford supplied Toolkit. Paid about `2,000 at Metro Ford, Yeshwanthpur. I have shared my experience on this in a separate post.

c. Engine Coolant Box/Bottle replaced as the same was leaking at Metro Ford, Yeshwanthpur in 2014. Not able to remember the cost.

d. Rear Glass (Rear Windscreen/Windshield) and Roof damaged due to Tree Fall during Heavy Rains in Bengaluru in 2017. The Car was Parked at our Gate outside our House. The Roof only had minor Dents that were barely visible. However, the rear glass had to be replaced. The Parts & Painting of the Roof took 3 Days and the Insurance, through Bharti AXA, took 2 Days. Total Bill about `23,000. That was the Bad News; the Good News any other Car, in that same situation, would have been a total write off. The works were carried out at Cauvery Ford, Magadi Road.

e. Left Headlight replaced, in 2022, and Bonnet repainted due to minor shunt. Again Insurance claimed through ICICI Lombard. The Part took 2 Days and Insurance 1 Day. The works were carried out at PPS, Yelahanka.

f. Batteries replaced twice since Purchase of the Vehicle. Both Batteries lasted about 4+ Years & both Ford Branded. The Car is now running on its 3rd Battery, again Ford Branded sourced from PPS, Yelahanka.

g. Tyres replaced twice. The Car came with Goodyear Eagle (Made in Germany) Tyres. Our Trusted Tyre Specialist, Shankar Tyres (Goodyear Dealer), on New BEL Road suggested to not swap those Tyres and to run the same for about 30,000 to 35,000 kms. when I approached him with an intent to change the Tyres when the Car was new in 2013. He mentioned that those Tyres have a short lifespan but provide impeccable grip. And he was right. The 2nd set were from Yokohama Earth1 that lasted for almost 55,000 + kms purchased from Shankar Tyres. The 2 earlier Tyres were 195/55. The current set (3rd set) Goodyear Assurance 195/65 was procured during the 2nd wave of Covid from PPS, Yelahanka. Since no stocks were available anywhere, had to go for them. The Tyres have served well except that, being slightly oversized, they tend to slightly scrape the wheel well when going over slightly larger potholes or Bangalore’s famous Speed breakers, only if we do not slow down. The Car has currently clocked about 1,07,600 kms.

h. Replaced the Left Rear Wheel bearing alongwith the Rear Shock Absorbers. This time, on my wife’s insistence, decided to get the job done at a good FNG. Heard good reviews of Kruthi Car Care & approached them. They assured me that they will Call & let me know on Parts availability. As they did not Call, I tried reaching out but they did not respond. Thereafter, based on my Cousin’s reference, approached Mr. Nayaz Pasha who runs MARS Auto on Sanjaynagar Main Road and replaced both the Left Wheel Bearing & Rear Shock Absorbers for about `14,000 inclusive of Labour. Please note that this was my first outing with an FNG for any of our Cars, outside the ASS Network. Turns out he is an Ex-MARS Employee. Very knowledgeable. For the uninitiated, MARS Auto Enterprises were the leading Maruti ASS in Bengaluru in the Mid-Nineties, with their Facility on Sanjaynagar Main Road, close to the IAF Quarters. I speak from personal experience as we used to get the PMS and other works done for our 1991 Maruti 800 & 1999 Maruti Zen at MARS. The Team never insisted on anything unnecessary. Great Team led by the very Friendly and Knowledgeable, Late Mr. Anil. Unfortunately after Mr. Anil’s untimely Demise, the Team disintegrated & the Service Levels went down. I started hunting for a Good ASS and settled down with Nexus Motors, 80 Feet Road where our “Highway Cruiser” the 2019 Ertiga gets her PMS. So far the Experience has been good over 3 Marutis, actually 4; 2011 Maruti Alto Vxi, 2009 Maruti Dzire Vxi, 2019 Maruti Ertiga Zxi+ and my Cousin’s 2009/10 Maruti Zen Estilo. I will share my Experience with the Ertiga Ownership on a separate post.

i. Wiper Blades replaced twice. This Car uses the Frameless Wipers, priced at about `1600 for the set. Both sets sourced from Ford ASS.

j. AC Gas Refilled/Recharged after 10 Years for about `1800.
