Re: Renault Duster : Official Review

How to locate the injector power source in Duster? I have the workshop manual and the electrical drawings is like Greek.

Hello anilntny,
Much as I empathize with your sentiments I must beg to differ with what you said. The Mobilio is certainly an MUV, but the Duster I'm afraid is another hatch-on-steroids/soft-roader like the Terrano, Ford Ecosport and the coming mini-crossovers from Toyota, Maruti etc.`
As I've said before in these columns, any self-respecting SUV should at a minimum have rear-wheel drive and preferably AWD/4WD. With these as a base one can climb the ladder of competence with LSDs, ESP, EBD and the rest of the SUV jargon upto the full bells & whistles. Even the mighty XUV500 was a pretender till M&M introduced the 4WD version. I've been using SUVs and touring much of the country since 1996 (the TATA Sierra earlier and then the M&M Scorpio) and so far I see no cause to change my view. The one attribute of the SUV which the Duster, Terrano, Ecosport et al, possess is adequate ground clearance.

Having said so, I'll hasten to add that the Duster, Terrano, Ecosport and the others are terrific in their own space and I'm sure are great fun to drive! I wish you all the joy & pleasure which one looks forward to sitting behind the wheel !

Whats wrong with FWD.
A 2WD with high GC, whether FWD or RWD is the same. Just seating capacity changes with size.

+1 to TSK's point about FWD.
With it's better traction, the 2WD FWD would actually fare better than a 2WD RWD.

Re: Renault Duster : Official Review

Team, What do you think would be a fair cash discount (on the OTR price of 12.25 lacs) on 2013 November model Duster 110 Rxl Plus model ? Please be informed that ever since Terrano was launched, a 30k discount applies to all the models.

Dealer says that they received the car only in January 2014, which means the car was in the yard for 7 months, under hot sun.

First of all an SUV is technically a 4 wheel drive vehicle.
duster (like ecosport) is just marketed as an suv, but it is really a crossover. Crossovers may or may not have 4 wheel drive.

The service centre guys wont connect it, they say its not possible. On further prodding they stated that it can be done outside ie other workshops but this would interfere with the warranty as we are talking about a different wiring set up altogether.

If thats the case, then the bull bar doesn't seem to be a genuine Renault accessory or has any approval from the company. It is not listed on the site as well. Any accessory with electrical connectivity will need to be plugged into the wiring some place. If the service center guys are scared to do it, then that shows they are not confident with the product.

To me it doesnt make sense, if there is a fog lamp provided which is not operational. Anyway bullbars are not a good idea if your car has air bags.

I wonder how the air bag sensors cope with the adventure edition.

Hi Sharkpin.
The advice I give is that whenever you want to get any kind of aux lights, do a direct battery wiring, with a separate wiring harness.
Of course, this means you can leave the lights on accidently and drain the battery, but having an illuminated switch reduces the change of doing this.

By using completely separate wiring harness connected directly to battery, you are not cutting any wires in the vehicle, nor splicing anything.

That said 20,000 for a pair of halogens is obscene.

Re: Renault Duster : Official Review

Hi All,

I bought a Duster on 22nd June and have completed around 2300 kms till date. I notice a certain burning smell when I start the engine. The smell is not very noticeable from inside the car but it is quite strong from outside. My neighbour asked me from his apartment about the smell coming from the car.

The smell comes for about first 2 mins and then disappears once I start the drive. I don't notice any smell when I complete the drive and park the car.

Please suggest.

Re: Renault Duster : Official Review

This should shut down a lot of "its-not-really-an-SUV" type of critics.
