Re: Ford Endeavour 2.0L Diesel AT : Official Review (with dune bashing)

Hi,

I am unending minor niggles, which have really irritated me a lot

My Ford Endeavour 4WD Titanium Plus was purchased in October 2021 (August 2021 manufactured)

I proudly bought this vehicle, even after Ford India shut manufacturing operations assuming support will be available; but customer care has been a bit slow and issue is getting dragged on

I have had repeated mechanical issues, mainly a rattling noise first on the left side few months ago

The left side has been solved - but the noise started almost immediately on the right side and i showed same to service advisor but they aren’t able to sort this issue out

I am sending my vehicle for the 7th time to Satyam ford Thane

Details of service visits to Ford service centre

1> 5th Dec 2021 (first service, left side noise issue not solved)

2> 25th Jan 2022 (left side noise solved, but right side noise started)

3> 6th Feb 2022

4> 30th March 2022

5> 2nd May 2022

6> 10th May 2022

7> 6th June 2022

The service guys are so confused, they wanted permission to open the sunroof when the noise was coming from footwell, I sent mails to Ford india also asking for escalation matrix

But the Ford customer care is slow to respond and reminders too are not answered

What can be done, should I go ahead and file a consumer complaint for poor quality of product delivered by Ford India as this issue is not resolved in over 6 months now

I couldn’t attach the video, in .mov or .mp4 so I shared same on twitter

Here is the video of the noise -

My itinerary keeps me at 14K+ altitude for 3 -4 days at strech and hence I am really worried about it.

Want to check experience of experts who have knowledge about this or have taken their bs6 endeavour to Ladakh already and how the experience with dpf has been for you?

Thanks in advance !

Finshed the trip and car performed like a breeze. Was really worried about the DPF issue after reading lot of stories about it but thankfully faced no issues. I tried to run car at higher speeds / rpm whenever got a chance for 15-20 min just in anticipation of auto DPF regeneration

Drove to the highest motorable road at UmlingLa (19K feet) and temp was in negetive. Didnt stop the engine while at the top for about 20 min. No problem at all at such high altitude and low temp.

Decision to buy the car even after Ford pull out has been vindicated by the superb performance of the car during this trip.

Quick update, on the nth time they seem to have finally fixed the noise issue - I haven’t heard the rattle sound in the 300 km I drove after it returned from service centre

Will be doing a 2000 km round trip(Mumbai-Bangalore-Mumbai), and hopefully it will be incident free and issue won’t resurface

Thanks @teambhp

Did Jispa-Keylong-Sissu-Rohtang-Manali last week with my 2.0 4x4.

Was little apprehensive after reading random DPF issues. But as u rightly said, the car performed like a breeze without any hesitation or niggles.

Also wanted to test the 1996 cc displacement on steep hills and that too well went with 10/10, specially on the hairpin steep curves of Rohtang Valley with occupied 5 Adults.

Had a chance to test the brakes too ( my bad) with an averted headon with a loaded cement truck. They were just superb. Anti-Lock braking system did its best to stop 2.5 - 3.0 tons of weight on wheels.

I am planning a 4000 km roadtrip on my ford endeavour 2.0L in December. Any key aspects that need inspection on the car. Also, can I add Clearblue from IOC instead of Adblue? It seems to be a bit low. Does water from Adblue evaporate if we have low usage of the car? if so what should I do (Add distilled water?).

Thanks in advance.

You can use any sort of Adblue just like you can use Shell or Reliance instead of IOC or BP.

Same chemical, just the brand varies.

Appears, some sort of parts shortages are there with Ford India. A friend's 2.0 4WD is lying at the ASC for past 2+ weeks. There were some issues with DPF / catalytic converter and while some parts are said to be in transit, the converter assembly, gasket and spacer exhaust manifold has not yet arrived.

The existing dealer is a good friend and he too is helpless, the said part is not available at Patna as well.

If Ford is indeed coming back, these lapses should have been taken care of.

.
Inventory is centralised across India and a “vehicle off road” status like this gives priority for parts. This is a rare part to fail though so ford is probably sourcing it from one of their suppliers abroad. Every endeavour part is imported as it is, even the AC filter I just got is made in Thailand.

My Ford Endeavour 2021 2.0 AT has done 52k kms within 3.5 years and I would like to share my ownership experience and positives and negatives of the vehicle so far.

Back to 2021

We were searching a car for my dad who loves driving a lot. Our previous cars were a type 1 Toyota Innova, VW Vento 1.6 TDI, Renault duster AWD. The current car should be a true SUV and should tackle bad roads with ease. We fixed a budget of 35 to 45 lakhs and began our search.

Cars Considered

1.VW Tiguan 2.0 TSI: We went and test drove the last batch of the pre facelifted tiguan and was blown away by the performance of the 2.0 TSI paired with DSG. It was truly a drivers delight, but the suspension seem to be bit stiff and found the thirdrow in the allspace version to be useless. The dealership gave a discount of 4 lakhs for the pre facelifted allspace variant.
Overall the car seemed to be damn good to drive, but lack of space and overall small dimensions made us to look for other options.

2.MG Gloster Biturbo Savy 4WD:Again this seems to be a good option. We went to the showroom and saw the car "boy its huge". The car was loaded with tech and the captain seats offered great comfort making it a good mile muncher. The engine was smooth and powerful enough. But we felt the sheer size of the car will be difficult to maneuver in the city and left the option.
3.Toyota Fortuner 2021 AT:The Fortuner seemed to be the default option for anyone looking for an suv in this segment. I went and test drove the car. The main positive of the car is the engine with 500nm torque on tap. The engine was extremely peppy to drive and builts up crazy speeds in no time and the additional reliability factor. Me and my family didnt like the bouncy nature of the car and the ride was pathetic. The interior didnt do justice to a 45 lakh car
and so we moved on
4.Ford Endeavour 2.0 AT:I heard from someone that the 3.2 5cyl unit was discontinued and Ford had launched new endeavour with 2.0 panther series engine with 168hp and 420nm of torque with a 10speed AT. We gave it a final try. We were blown away by the ride quality it offered and the handling at high speed. My family also loved the beige interiors and the muscular stance of the car, So we went ahead and booked the titanium plus 4wd variant which costed 42.3 lakhs on road (was not interested in the sport variant which costed 42.7 lakhs on road, a whopping 40k just for cosmetic upgrade). The car got delivered exactly after one month on May 2021.

Engine and Transmission: The car is powered with 2.0l panther engine by ford producing 168hp and 420nm of torque. It may not seem to be lot to move this mammoth, but suprisingly its adeaquate enough. Its neither overpowered nor underpowered and its faster than the 2.2l and 1.5 seconds slower than the 3.2l. The true magic lies in the 10speed torque convertor AT and it is tuned beautifully to mask the turbolag of the engine. The shifts are smooth and wont feel anything and its beautiful to drive especially on the highway. The initial response from the engine is too good and it pulls cleanly upto 160kmph and the progress dulls after that. So, its amazing to drive within legal speeds.
The 10speed AT is a bit confused especially when driving within city limits. The gearbox skips the gears( downshifting from 9th gear to 3rd gear in case of an overtake) making the engine in its powerband at all the time. The engine is refined too and wont hear a thing at lower rpms. Its only when the engine crosses 2500rpm it becomes audible and the growl can be felt in the cabin.

Ride Quality:The ride quality needs a special mention here. The suspension is tuned beautifully to tackle all the bad roads and its one of the most comfortable suv in the segment. The low speed ride is a bit stiff and just moves around a bit ( Typical lumpiness of a ladder on frame suv)

Handling:One of the best handling suv in the segment. The steering is pretty responsive and it is way too light in the city speeds and weighs up well at high speeds. It is not as responsive as the previous gen Fords but its way more responsive than the competition. It tackles corners with ease and bodyroll is well controlled (by suv standards). The stability is awesome and the cabin isolation is just fantastic.

Interior and Quality:The seats are made up of really highquality leather. The interior and dashboard has soft touch plastic with high quality leather wrapped around. The interior feels age old, but made up of high quality materials and made to last forever.

Service and maintenance:The Ford Service has been great so far and no issues at that front. The car has done 3 free services and 4 paid services so far. The customer experience is good and affordable too.

Accessories:
1.The car came with Fiamm trumpet horn as stock and I got changed them to Roots Megasonic.
2.I installed 3M CR70 sunfilms all through out the car including the front windshield.
3.The stock speakers are just pathetic and I got it replaced with Morel maxximo components both front and rear powered by Infinity 4 channel amplifier.

Positives

  • The main positive of this beast is its engine, which is not overpowered or sluggish by any means and felt adequate to move the 2 ton car and can cruise at triple digit speeds all day long.
  • The 10 speed torque convertor is a gem in its own way and keeps the engine in its boil at all the times and masks the turbo lag beautifully.
  • The cabin insulation is just brilliant and the materials used in the interior are of pretty high quality that I haven’t felt in any sub 50 lakh car.
  • The ride quality is just amazing and it just glides over everything.
  • The high speed stability is fantastic and cruising at 120kph feels like 80kph and the motor will be spinning at 1800rpm at 10th gear and it makes it pretty efficient too.
  • There is always enough power on tap for overtakes and the gearbox downshifts beautifully based on the throttle inputs.
  • The AC is a chiller and cools the cabin in no time.
  • I am getting a fuel economy of 11 to 12 km/l which is pretty acceptable for a vehicle of this size.
  • The car handles beautifully by SUV standards and you can take corners at a good speed and the body roll is well controlled.
  • The Ford service is good and way more affordable even after their exit from India.

Negatives

  • Low speed ride is just a little bumpy typical of a ladder frame SUV.
  • I found it a bit difficult initially to get used to the size of the vehicle, but not anymore. Still its difficult to drive in traffic.
  • The Check Engine light glowed up a couple of times and got the catalytic convertor replaced.
  • Overtaking slow moving traffic needs a bit of planning and one has to be aware of the size of the vehicle while doing high speed manoeuvres.
  • The 10speed AT is a bit confused at times especially while driving in the city.
  • The rear seat space is just okay and the under-thigh support is lacking.
  • The third row can be used only by kids.

Upgrades to be done:

1.The stock MRF wanderers have worn out completely and should replace them with Yoko geolanders or Conti cross contact AT.
2.I saw a dechromed black ford endeavour yesterday and it looked amazing and it triggered me to dechrome my car too. Hope this happens
in the near future.

Cars like these are not made anymore and nowadays one has to spend close to 60lakhs in order to get a true suv without any compromise.
Overall I am pretty much happy with my purchase after 3.5 years and continue to keep the car as long as possible.

Re: Ford Endeavour 2.0L Diesel AT : Official Review (with dune bashing)

Hey! I would be very interested in connecting with you. I bought a very questionable example of the same car a few months ago. Ive been spending the past few months getting it back to stock to a Titanium + Sport look variant. It had the big FORD illuminated grill, an illuminated EVEREST badge at the back and illuminated Mustangs on the side. It was embarrassing to drive it around but I came from a Fortuner and definitely needed something more comfortable as I was getting older.

When I bought it, the owner had completed 1.1L kms and it wasnt well looked after hence I ended up getting it for cheap. I feel there is still a ton of work left on it but would be great to connect with some who has owned the same vehicle from day 1.
