Should I be checking anything specific?
Not to throw a spanner in the works, but I will probably end up doing that anyhow - aren't you worried about the effect of 20% Ethanol in petrol (being sold since April) on these slightly older cars? New cars being sold today are E20 compliant and they'll fare alright. But older cars such as this will likely face fuel pipeline corrosion problems, rust in the petrol tank (owing to Ethanol's hygroscopic nature) and who knows what else.

The last two entries dont look too comforting.

Does the insurance policy also say it belongs to Mandovi ?

Don't think that will be a major issue since E10 will still be available at fuel stations and users will have choice to opt for E10 and going forward E85 as well gradually. I haven't seen E20 yet on my usual fuel station here in Delhi yet. Might be available at selective stations I guess.

Thanks for the quick responses everyone. Yes I am checking this. But I sense something is wrong here.

Hmm yeah.
Were you able to do a test drive?
I rejected Jazz and Ecosport after driving for 100m hearing the rattles.

Yes I took a test drive for about 2 kms and was about to schedule a longer one.
But then Cars24 informed me that the previous insurance papers have expired and missing. All I wanted was a copy to validate the owner info. This doesnt look like a good deal after all.

Something is really shady there then.

I took a test drive of a S cross AT 2020 model today from cars 24. It has insurance till August though. Not sure if it's the same car you saw.
Car was in good condition though didn't dig deep into the details.

Yes that's the one. It shows August but there are no papers. Also it has been booked since.
I found no issues with the drive either.

Re: Maruti S-Cross 1.5L Petrol : Official Review

My views on the car based on a 20 min through electronic City traffic and 20 minutes through the highway till Bommasandra.

Pros:
1. Handling feedback : This really surprised me as my current drive is Baleno and have driven Brezza multiple times. The handle had good feedback and had plenty of life.

2. High speed stability: This is where the S cross shines. The stability imo is comparable to a segment higher. Very similar to VW twins in terms of the suspension and the confidence.

3. Ergonomics: Tilt and reach adjustable steering along with the good seating is good to find that sweat spot quickly.

4. Suspension tuning: The balance is good between low speed ride and highway cruising. Not like Honda City where it's smooth in the city and nervy in higher speeds

Cons:
1. Engine and gearbox
The cashis and suspension is crying for a better engine. Too bad Maruthi didnt refresh S cross with a better engine.
While i found the gearbox to be smooth, it's not matching with the segment.

2. No paddle shifters or manual gear change
There are ancient technology like OD enabling and "2" position in gear box. While it does the job, you will be craving for that paddle shifters.

3. City driving: The steering while heavy in highway, it's not light similar to Honda City or Hyundai cars for easy maneuvers in the congested Bangalore traffic.

I had asked a question on whether it's risky to buy a non E20 compliant used petrol car today, to which the above reply was given, that we'll be able to opt for the appropriate ethanol mix at fuel stations.

However, that's not true. It appears that fuel stations have no control over what grade fuel they get. If it's E10 today, they may get and dispense E12 tomorrow - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techn...ml#post5571167 (Real life experience of ethanol-blended petrol, the dreaded villain, playing havoc in a Maruti Gypsy)

I know this is OT for the current official review thread; but IMHO this consideration should matter if you're looking to buy used petrol cars. Maybe one is just better off not buying a used petrol car today. If you must buy a petrol car, perhaps it makes sense to buy a new E20 compliant one.

Luckily not, turned out to be some issue with the battery. The service centre tried charging it and replaced it within warranty.

Not the driver armrest, but the AAWireless was connected to the 12V socket under the console.

Re: Maruti S-Cross 1.5L Petrol : Official Review

Hi,

I am getting an s-cross zeta AT 2021 model with 10K on the odometer in Bangalore for 11L.
This model was on sale for approx 14L.

A 3L depreciation for first 2 years and 10K km with 2 minor accidents seems like a lot.

Thoughts/suggestions will be much appreciated.
