Re: Volkswagen Taigun Review

Hello Everyone,

My Brother is planning to purchase VW Taigun Highline in 1.0 TSI MT.

I am putting up a question on his behalf as below,
As the Highline variant comes with 16' Silver Alloys, he wants it to get painted in gloss black just like GT Variants from the showroom itself.

So, is it advised to do so as it will enhance the car's look, and also it comes with 1-year warranty. Total cost: 14000/-
What could be its durability and other factors to be considered if any.

The car colour choice could either be Carbon Steel Gray or Silver.

Thanks in Advance.
Cheers

Aftermarket paint on alloys are never OE level of perfect or durable.

My experience with painted alloys has been bad. Moreover, scratches on black alloys standout a lot which looks bad in the long run.

14k is very high. Outside you can get it done for 2-3k per alloy. My brother did it for his polo GT and was charged 8K. His only complaint is there is slight peel off in the bolt area after long use which isn't visible.

I got it done from Car Sense Tambaram. 2 layers of Dr Artex damping sheets. Additionally, they used some thicker rubber foam sheets for door pads. I also asked them to remove the entire dashboard plastic trims and insert foam pads underneath them to stop them from rattling. It costed me 19k in total. This was done around 2023 December.

Thanks. By 2 layers you mean one layer inside the door cavity and one outside or both layers outside? Normally I have seen people do 2 layers inside the door cavity and 1 layer outside. By door pads you mean the door trim which is the plastic panel? Sorry to ask to many questions but in a huge dilemma whether to go for damping or not.

One inside the door cavity and one outside. Yes I meant the door trim only. They removed the trim and applied damping on the inner side. For this they used some thicker rubbery damping sheets.

Glad to see that you are okay!

As long as it's just a mount that's broken you don't need to worry. Kindly check the lens and the plastic housing of the headlight assembly for any uneven gaps. This may cause moisture in the lens. If you have a halogen headlight assembly forget about this issue altogether, but if you have an LED assembly (appears to be an LED assembly) there's a possibility that if (god forbid) it fails due to manufacturing defects, you will have to shell out a lot of money as VW won't honor their warranty nor will the insurance be interested in helping you out.

I hope your car gets back on the road safer than ever.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun Review

Hi all, I'm thinking of getting sound deadening done for my Taigun. I have noticed a lot of ICE sound leakage to the outside at more than 40-50% volume, almost as if a window is open. The primary culprit seems to be the subwoofer in the trunk.
I'm looking for a solution that doesn't break the bank but gives good enough sound isolation. Reduced road noise would just be a bonus for me. Looking for recommended vendors to get this done for a reasonable price in Bangalore (preferably in Eastern/Central BLR)
I also have some questions about the process -
  1. This would need removing interior trims - I think this might lead to some rattles down the line. What are the chances of introduction of cabin rattles? If you have got sound deadening installed in the past, how has it been for you till now, rattle-wise? I need to evaluate if reducing some noise could lead to potentially introducing new noises
  2. What is the service life of these sound deadening materials? Do these sheets lose their effect/go bad/fall off etc. over time? Is this something to worry about at all? (I'm sorry I have limited info on this subject )
  3. Cost wise, what is the ballpark I can expect to pay for the Taigun? Considering VFM materials being used.
  4. How do we tell apart the good sheets from the bad ones? Any brand recommendations?
  5. Are there any common scams I need to be wary of?
  6. Does this affect warranty in any way on VWs?

VW/Skoda will definitely deny warranty claims especially with window control, locking mechanism etc. My observation is VW/Skoda vehicles have somewhat better sound insulation than others but to each his own. The sound leakage is a combination of reduced sound damping (thinner sheet metal) and inferior glasses IMHO, only damping might not yield the result you expect.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun Review

I have booked the Taigun 1L AT GT Line.

Total on-road price as per the latest pricelist is 19.76L. I have negotiated hard, and with few lucky promotions being available, have got down the cost to 18.2L.

This includes full B2B insurance with the essential riders, basic accessory kit etc

Is this a good price or is there room for more discounts?

VW Taigun 1.0 already has up to Rs 1.5 Lakh Cash discount + a 50K Exchange Bonus (Additional discount of Rs 40K on cars with 2 Airbags), so more or so in line with the existing offers and nothing special. Even for the latest MY2025 stock, there is a flat 1 lakh discount, The dealership made you negotiate hard for existing offers.

Moreover, some dealerships with huge inventory pileups of MY2024 stock are offering a flat 2 lakh discount on these models. So your quote is pretty normal and nothing substantial. I guess the dealership isn't worried about stock pileip and has mostly cleared their MY2024 inventory.

Oh okay.. So you are saying there is more room for discounts. I should try to extract extended warranties or SVP then.

This dealership doesn't have any '24 make GT Lines..

Just an update. I marked the issue to the VW customer care and the same was forwarded to VW downtown mumbai customer relationship manager. Got an instant call. I was made to understand that dealer to dealer transfer is routine however my case was different as I had bought a company (VW) owned car and the Vin Number was not tagged to any dealership. However, it was assured by the CRM that they will take up with VW for tagging the car with dealership first and then the dealership can very well map the mobile number and email address.

Finally the issue got resolved yesterday. The CRM from downtown mumbai was very helpful. I am now able to see all details in the app, including the extended warranty 4+2.

Somehow using the app makes the car owning experience more wholesome. Thanks to the forum for the guidance. It helped.

Re: Volkswagen Taigun Review

I have a query to the Taigun owners here.

Relating to the hideous sunglass holder dummy piece in all Tiagun/Kushaq cars... Why VW would block off such a simple thing, which doesn't even need any electronics to function is beyond my understanding.

However, I came across a DIY replacement for the sunglass holder, with the part being relatively cheap and process even easier to replace.

My worry here is, it is mentioned that this can only be done for cars without a sunroof. How true is this? Has anyone here tried this for Taigun cars with sunroof? Is it really impossible? Maybe because of the wires for sunroof mechanism?

Because of the space? In my Slavia there is not enough space to fit a sunglass holder after the overhead console switches. And yes, the sunroof also has a thick frame around it so it will take up more space than the cutout we can see on the roof liner.
