Well, I got my 2012 Superb's brake oil bleed and change (including clutch slave cylinder bleed), coolant, petrol filter and battery clamp also changed yesterday at their workshop while doing the PDI of the Kodiaq. What you are saying is true to an extent, but since I was standing on their heads, I got the work done to my satisfaction. Basic oil change service should not be an issue with them IF you pay personal attention.











Which do you suggest are the best Skoda workshops in Delhi/NCR /Faridabad then?

The engine bay and the engine cover looked decent enough to me, comparable to the TSI embossed one on my Superb -

Brite's Noida workshop is pretty good in my opinion as they have solved much of the my issues smoothly. Though if it's not routine, diagnostics only takes a week time - that's with every Skoda workshop.

My Kodiaq is almost at 5000km, so I am planning to get tyre rotation and road force balancing done tomorrow.

Kodiaq's owner's manual is suggesting rotation at 10,000km, with wheels rotated front-to-back (no diagonal rotation).



Kodiaq steering/axle/chassis workshop manual from https://www.vag-hub.com/kodiaq/ suggests wheel rotation at 5000km, and also refers to diagonal rotation for non-directional tyres. My friendly neighborhood "car-guru" also suggested rotation at 5K.



I am running stock MRF Markus tyres. Are they directional tyres? I could not see any direction markings on the outer side-walls.

Also, both the documents above are referring to wheel rotation (not just tyre rotation), so I assume the procedure is to move the entire wheel assembly including the tyre, not removing tyres from wheels and rotating them.

I would really appreciate comments and advice from the community on this.

I would suggest you stick to 10k km tyre rotation as per my experience with my 12 year old Superb.

I did the final PDI of the Kodiaq yesterday for final delivery on Monday. I have a few queries regarding the same, if buddies here can comment, highlighted in bold below-

They did the following PDI jobs on the vehicle -

The Battery was checked -



Battery Test Report. Seems OK? -



The Engine Oil was checked and was up to his thumb level in the photo -



I purchased 1 L of OE engine oil for this vehicle as my previous Superb had a tendency to eat a little oil in the initial days. Is it needed for Kodiaq or as the technician was telling me that this engine now does not eat any oil?



The windshield washer was quite low. I got nearly 1.5L of this summer wash filled and 1L of RO water. Initially they were saying it will be charged but when I said I will give the feedback of the same to Skoda, it was made FOC...Lolz -



Brake oil was very slightly topped up -



Now this is the L&K kit you get FREE with the car which includes Textile Floor Carpet Mats, 2 Rear Lounge Steps, 1 Blanket, Boot Nets, First Aid Kit, Warning Traingle; Is is OK? -



And this is the 23k Accessory Pack items - All Weather Floor Mats+Mat over Tunnel, 4 Mud flaps (installed), Document Holder, USB charger and cable, car care kit, Wet tissue wipe, Micro fiber cloth, Tissue Box, Car Perfume, Sling Bag, Body Cover (was a surprise as it was not mentioned initially) and 2 Pillows. Is this all OK?



They then attached the car to the laptop and some obd wireless connector and scanned for any updates. They said there were none? The technician basically removed the Transport Mode to get all normal functions going. And scanned the car, removed all previous errors due to transport mode, scanned again, no errors. Is that all?



The car is on software version 0324. I checked on Briskoda and they also say that's the current one for MIB3 system cars that we have installed in our cars. Is that the latest?



The under-body was visually checked -



The mud flaps were properly fitted. The front mud flaps instructions said to drill a hole to insert a plastic lock, which I avoided and just made a small hole with screw driver and drove one of the small OE nuts (that were replaced by longer ones in the kit) removed there for support. Seems absolutely sturdy to me on checking -



Also changed AUTO AC profile to HIGH. It was on Medium from the factory. I think all of us should do that immediately for Indian summers. Sorry, forgot to click a picture, will post soon. The AC was chilling just like my Superb on Auto High after that.

1 important point - Now I asked the technician to switch on Passenger Airbag. He said that it is switched on by default. But when I later checked, the Passenger Airbag OFF light was ON below the AC control knobs on the center console, when we switched on the car. I checked the passenger door and the slider key was on OFF position from the factory (Sorry, forgot to take a picture). I along with the Showroom Manager removed the metal key from our remote and changed it to ON position. Now on restarting the car, the Passenger Airbag light on the console switched to ON. Did we do it right? Is that OK and Normal behavior? Does that light stay ON or goes away while driving?

Anything else that needs to be done or checked during PDI?

Urgent replies will be most appreciated as we have to pick up the car on Monday. Thanks in advance.

Skoda Kodiaq - PDI - 12-04-2024

So spoke to their Service Head at Brite Skoda Noida, and most of the queries posted above were answered by him. And it seems PDI has now been done correctly, only off point being that the technician did not turn on the Passenger Airbag, which should have been done.

So here are some more photos of how the PDI went about -

First job was to remove all the protective film from the car's various painted surfaces and roof -



There is something inherently satisfying in removing the plastic coverings from any new device/gadget... Lolz. Here's a short video of removing the bonnet protective film -

My brother in law, who is taking delivery of this car, is doing so totally on my recommendation. He had already booked the Fortuner 4x2 AT at a similar on-road price, which I got cancelled. I had owned the Fortuner for 10 years (2011-2021) which btw has it's own dedicated Thread here (Millennium Falcon), so I knew it's advantages as well as it's shortcomings, and hence I chose the Kodiaq over it.

I too cancelled Legender for Kodiaq & I just love my decision.

Regarding umbrella, I purchased same size another one online just to make sure both slots are having one.

Thanks for sharing your PDI experience. I have a few small points from our PDI experiences on the Tiguan and Polo.

Transport Blocks
Suspension might have Transport blocks or additional stoppers which need to be taken out while the car might be on a lift. Failure to take these out, results in a very firm and rude ride, and also potentially detrimental to your suspension. VW Skoda techs are notorious for having missed these transport blocks. Here is a TeamBHP thread (Skoda forgot to advise dealers to remove vRS suspension blocks (used for transporting)) about the same.

Car Autoscan Log
Few of the car's electronic control modules might come un-coded from the factory. These need to be fully configured during PDI to ensure all approved feature sets are enabled. Additionally, each control unit must also be registered in the Gateway.

While I used to believe, this is something that should be checked and performed at the factory, from my experience I've seen a few control modules which the technician might miss out during PDI.



Please request a full scan of the car, for any potential errors. When we picked up our Tiguan, it was missing coding for the AWD and Climate Control unit, and had numerous faults regarding the same. Fortunately, I brought this up and it was rectified during the 1st Service. Congratulations on your car, and I look forward to reading more about your Kodiaq!

I had checked the suspension and did not find any transport blocks (photo attached). Also as this car has a electronic suspension module, I presume in transport mode that should work automatically.



And once the Transport mode was disabled, all systems were enabled which the technician had shown me with no errors. Also I had physically checked and adjusted the climate control, music system etc. All seemed fine. Will insist on another scan tomorrow morning on delivery, just for peace of mind.

Congratulations. Wish you all the best. The Kodiaq is ONE helluva car. The sheer smile that its smooth engine gives you when you stomp down that accel makes the money spent worth it. Happy motoring.

Off note on the Sound quality of 12 speaker Canton System with subwoofer - I adjusted the equalizer various times; enabled Dolby ; adjusted sound centering towards slight upfront but STILL I found the sound quality and depth from my 12 year old Skoda Superb's 8 speaker system to be quite better than this new system (Same Music was played via the SD card on my Superb and USB flash drive on the Kodiaq). Maybe something more needs to be done to fine tune or the actual quality from the older build cars was better than the marketing 'branding' (read Canton or Bose) of today's systems. And don't even talk about Skoda Superb's rear seat comfort and space, twin opening boot. Still blows everything away. Also disappointed to see no chrome surround around the headlight switch in Kodiaq.

But don't get me wrong, the overall package of the Kodiaq is still mind blowing. Just nitpicking.

After seeing how well you have kept your Superb, and your attention to detail, I was tempted to postpone my tyre rotation to 10k. However, after getting a couple more opinions, I decided to take the plunge, booked a slot at MRF Tyredrome, and took the car there.

The staff at MRF Tyredrome were very professional and patient is answering my queries, and they have excellent equipment. I could watch everything they were doing from the lobby. They balanced all the wheels, then rotated them (not tyres - the entire wheels) in a diagonal X pattern, and then aligned the wheels. I could not detect any imbalance when driving the car, but two issues were found:

- one of the wheels had a rim runout, which was apparently due to imperfect fitting of the tyre on the rim from the factory or at the dealer. They fixed it by re-positioning the tyre on the rim.

- Castor angle is slightly out of spec for the front left tyre - only toe can be corrected without touching the suspension on Kodiaq's front wheels, and the deviation is less than half a degree, so they recommended that we do nothing for now, especially since there is no pull on the wheels during driving.

The drive felt nicer when I took it on a short highway sprint after balancing and alignment, but it could have been my mind playing games.

Then, there was a small incident while I was waiting there. Someone brought in an MG Astor for alignment and balancing, and he dropped the car with the technician and came up to the lobby. After 5 minutes, the technician came up and started talking to him.

Technician: Are you feeling any issue while driving?
Customer: No, everything is fine.
Technician: You did your last balancing and alignment 1000 kms ago. You do not have to repeat until another 4000.
Customer: Oh. I was planning to go an a long drive, and someone advised me to get an alignment and balancing done.
Technician: No, sir. It is not required at all unless you feel any problem while driving.

The customer then called someone on phone, talked for a few minutes, confirmed with the technician again, got the car back and left.

I felt good about MRF Tyredrome and that technician. They could have kept silent and just made some money, but they chose to be a partner to the customer.

The only significant difference seems to be that the battery is marked as AGM in my case. Maybe it is just some setting on the battery tester that gets printed on the report - would be good to confirm.
