Its Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino or simply the Italian automobile factory of Turin!

Looking at all the snaps of the FIAT 1100 cars made me feel very nostalgic. About fifteen years back I used to have a black FIAT Super Select 1962 model (registered in 1963), having inherited it from my dad. Had a lovely engine running silently off a SOLEX carburettor. Many of the parts were original Magneti Marelli. Of course, I did have to change a few parts such as the distributor system as the contact used to give a lot of trouble from water spashing. I replaced it with one from a 1100D and never faced the contact problem ever. Had to also do away with the dynamo and replaced it with an alternator (which in turn did away with battery drainage, esp. while driving at night with wipers running). There were a few minor niggling problems, but on othe overall, the car was simply great. I really loved the stick shift gear and the ribbon speedometer. Had also found an excellent mechanic here in Chennai who really knew how to treat the car properly.

I was getting about 10 kmpl (city driving, no AC, of course), which was perhaps excellent. The car had done only 75K kms in 38 years, when I had really no option but to sell it in 2001. Sad, but could not be helped!!

Cheers,
Ssbiitm

Welcome aboard! Nice to hear about your Super-select!

May I point out however, that if you're referring to the original type gear shift as in fiats, then it's called "column shift". Stick shift is the floor mounted shift.

Any pics. of your car? And if we could have the regn. one of us may be able to track it down sometime, who knows!

Yes it did come-off, we had a small mishap. Correctable damage, not serious.
