That's not a high-end hotel. That's a gated community - Wadhwa, The Address. it's a luxury residential complex situated on the LBS Road, opposite to the R-Mall, in Ghatkopar West.

It's understood, since a resident of the apartment complex is in a scuffle with an outsider, the security guards, without any background on the previous engagements between the 2 parties, will definately help the resident. And that's what has happened in the video that has come out in the public domain, and the one that we are discussing.

Re: Road Rage - Understanding, Avoidance and De-escalating Situation

It seems the cab driver misjudged the situation and hit the Audi, exactly same happened with me at a Toll Plaza, I stopped just behind an Omni and my foot was on the brake padel but I don't know what happened or I couldn't sense that my car moved a bit and just kissed the Omni's bumper, thankfully here in Rajasthan people are cool and not short tempered, I just apologised and we both moved on.
I am 100% sure that no strict action will be taken against that clown of Audi, laws and judiciary is a joke here, Audi driver will have a cup of Coffee with the SHO in police station getting sure from SHO that "Sir, you please don't worry I will take care of everything"
Hey God please save the middle class, save our country.

Not to be cynical, but...

In 1988, a prominent cricketer was involved in a road rage incident in Patiala where a 65-year old man died as a result of being beaten up by him. It took 11 years for the accused to be declared not guilty by the trial court, during which he continued playing professional cricket at the highest level. In 2006, Punjab & Haryana High Court reversed the trial court's acquittal and sentenced him and his co-defendant to 3 years in jail. This was promptly appealed in the Supreme Court, which stayed the conviction pending appeal. It took another 12 years for the SC to render its verdict guilty for voluntarily causing hurt to the victim, reversing the Punjab and Haryana High Court verdict and acquitting the cricketer from culpable homicide not amounting to murder charge. Quoting from an Indian Express article:
Quote:
"(The former cricketer) is fined Rs 1,000 under Section 323 of the Indian Penal Code. The SC takes into account that the incident was 30 years old, there was no enmity between the accused and deceased and that no weapon was used by the accused."
He ended up serving 10 months in jail, 34 years after the crime was committed. And embarked on not one but TWO more successful careers, as a politician and a stand-up comedian.

Just to put things in perspective, this is a much-loved celebrity to this day who hasn't really suffered any significant consequences for his action: what is essentially the murder of a senior citizen committed in a fit of rage over a trivial cause.

There is definitely a lot more slack given to celebrities- be it a cricketer or an actor.

Re: Road Rage - Understanding, Avoidance and De-escalating Situation

^ The above incident did stain his career for the rest of his life. He was removed partly from that Comedy show due to the trial of that case in 2018. Also, in Punjab he could never contest as Chief minister candidate as the opposition always brought up that case in T.V Debates and Rally's. So, ultimately it did affect his reputation in the Punjab everytime the courts held their trials. He couldn't exactly brush it off in his local public atleast

One of the reasons I will never buy big 3 German in India. It will be scratched or dented and you need to have that mindset to own one here. For a mere scratch you body slam someone ?! Wow what an entitled piece of S.

Exact same thing happened to me near Vidhan Soudha. I was waiting in my Punto at a signal. A cabbie in his Ertiga hit my Punto from behind. I guess he couldn't break in time. I got out , inspected the damage, he too got out to apologize, I said " It's okay brother!" , sat inside my car and continued my conversations with my better half where I had left off as if nothing happened. In the end it's just a piece of metal for me.

Re: Road Rage - Understanding, Avoidance and De-escalating Situation

Good that this guy spends some time in lock up and understands the repercussions of such kind of absolutely atrocious and pathetic public behaviour , that too for a small nudge to his car, which surely would not have caused more than a very small dent or scratch , and should not be a big deal or issue for any sensible person. Hope the cab driver is fine and recovers soon.

If he had tried this in Gurgaon with any cabbie, would surely have got a taste of his own medicine, and learnt his lesson the same hard way as he did to the cab driver..

That's right. I live close to this place and heard that the accused is son of society chairman. It houses prominent people from business, corporate, govt.and police and the delay in addition of Attempted Murder section does indicate some behind-the-curtain arrangement. Until it went viral, I don't think any action was taken. Last I heard, police remand had been extended for him and now his spouse is also under investigation.

Those with money have no fear of law at all, just look at those family members looking at the impact multiple times but didn't even flinch when the driver was thrown to the ground in a brutal way. This country is going downhill, no one can save us.

This happened in my society and I can confirm there’s immense pressure from the larger group for action to be taken against the culprit. Even the police complaint was registered first at the behest of some members from the community.

Re: Road Rage - Understanding, Avoidance and De-escalating Situation

The Ertiga was tailing the Audi as the passenger in the Audi had earlier snatched the cabbie's phone from an earlier altrecation, which happened prior to the incident captured in the CCTV. The cab driver followed them to get the phone back & rear ended the Audi, albiet slightly. The rest is known.

Cabs in Bangalore regularly rearend other cars. They maintain mm distance from cars in front. I used to sit in the front seat of cabs previously, but nowadays am scared to do that. Hearing a crunch when in traffic seems to be quite acceptable.

Re: Road Rage - Understanding, Avoidance and De-escalating Situation

I think this has to do with our mentality. And, when I say mentality, I am using it in a general sense from my observations on the roads. People in expensive cars feel they have more rights than the others. The costlier the vehicle the more rights they have on the road.

I was recently watching an episode of the Grand Tour where Jeremy Clarkson was in an Aventador but he was apologised to people who were disturbed by his car even if they were walking.

Re: Road Rage - Understanding, Avoidance and De-escalating Situation

I am hoping that the accused faces the consequences of his actions. It is good to see that he is in jail. He has also deleted his LinkedIn profile and other social media profiles-- they all go to dead links. His former employer has issued a statement distancing themselves from him. The consequences of his actions are clearly being felt -- though this is not enough.

On another note, it seems that the elderly people in his car were also of the same mindset. It is shocking to see there is not one sign of any of them taking charge of the situation, and bringing some sense to this goon. They seem more intent on justifying the goon's actions and leaving -- or atleast that's what I gather. They too should be brought to book.

There is no justification for beating up & body slamming the cab driver. And this video clearly shows that the Audi driver was not acting in self defense at all -- the cabbie did not attempt to attack him in any way. I hope the cab driver has access to legal/medical resources, to see this through. The media cycle will pass and people will forget this, but I hope a good lawyer takes on his case pro bono and ensures that justice is delivered.
