Re: Planning for Goa, where to stay?

Hello everyone!
Planning a Goa trip with wife and 1.5yr old kid in May. How is the weather in May? Is May a good time for Goa or should we look somewhere else? Goa has been on our minds for a long time, last time was there in 2007! Considered Lakshadweep and Andaman Islands but long flight times with the kid made me consider Goa again. Not looking for international travel.

Not looking for any water or adventure sports, just looking for a luxury relaxing beach holiday after a long time. Thanks

Goa has changed since you last went in 2007 : there are a host of new resorts, restaurants and cafes to visit for those looking for a relaxing luxury staycation.

The best properties for this is still the Taj properties in North Goa (due to added proximity to new restaurants), W Hotel, Mariott Panjim, and of course Leela in South Goa though restaurants are limited.

That being said, May is going to be HOT and humid in the afternoons. Depending when you go, there could be some pre-monsoon showers.

Head straight to Taj Exotica. It’s the absolute best luxury stay Goa has to offer. We spent a weekend there, it was awesome.

If it is a relaxing Goa Vacation you want, then I suggest you head to south Goa and would strongly recommend the Alila Diwa Goa. Though it isn't a beach property, but they run a free a buggy service on demand to Utorda Beach throughout the day which is a very nice, clean, not crowded beach. The Hotel itself is lovely, especially if you have kids / toddler. They have a very well staffed and fully equipped kids room, alongwith a lovely pool suitable for both Infants to Adults alike besides some fantastic restaurants within a stone's throw from the resort - Martin's, Pentagon, Ziggy, Cameron's besides others.

Have stayed at several other resorts in Goa, including all the Taj properties Taj Exotica, Village, Vivanta and Aguada and only Exotica comes close but we still prefer the Alila Diwa.

Enjoy!

May will be hot - like really hot from 11-4 atleast. Might get cooler later in the evening. Zuri White Sands is where we stay usually. Quiet resort with a good sized pool with direct access to the beach. You could go further down south to Lalit.

Do not go to Lalit.
Its extremely ill kept, food is horrid, and the ambience is like a resort in Jodhpur/Jaisalmer.
Plus, the drive back to the airport, 2 Hours, will drain away any feel-good you may have collected over your stay.

This is an extremely good option. And the beaches within 3-4 kilometers (Varca, Trinity etc) are some the best and most civilized in all of goa.

Firstly, Goa is HOT in May. I never recommend anyone a beach vacation in India in May. That being said, if your plan is still on, my suggestion is try the Leela @ Mobor Beach over Taj and other 5 star properties in South Goa. Opulent exteriors, well-appointed interiors, sprawling lawns, exemplary service, and 3 different water bodies in and around the property; a perfect combination to ensure a memorable vacation and that's what The Leela Goa offers. The beach, being the southern end of Cavellosim, is almost a private beach and one of the whitest (sand) and cleanest stretch on Goa's coastline. The sun loungers on the white sand under the palm trees is an experience that probably no other resort in South Goa offers. The setting is simply superb! A tip; whichever resort you book, just make sure they are not hosting any wedding or big party during your stay dates. They usually take up a good amount of lawn or beach space with their large setups and the whole activity in the resort feels a little intrusive if you are looking for an truly relaxed vacation.

Re: Planning for Goa, where to stay?

Hi, we are planning to visit Goa in June second week. I have booked a property in North Goa and planning to stay in South Goa too for two days. How is the Holiday Inn resort in South Goa? We will just be relaxing in South Goa for those two days. Also, we will be travelling with our 1.5 years old son.
How will be the weather in June? Will it start raining there?

Thanks.

Goa weather has been unpredictable lately. We have had days which were hot and humid during the day and showers in the night. If monsoons are on time , it can start raining very heavily during second week of June. If relaxing is your sole reason, you can make the trip. Its very pleasant during the monsoons. Holiday Inn is a nice resort.

May is the hottest season and with soaring temperatures it can get uncomfortable. The weather has been unpredictable lately. Spare yourself from venturing out from 12:00 pm to 5:00 and relax at the hotel. Kid will enjoy the beaches. Book a resort that has a private beach area. Grand Hyatt, Taj exotica would be my recommendations

Re: Planning for Goa, where to stay?

Hello All,
Looking for some beachfront resort/hotel in south Goa.
I would be going there next weekend. Yet to finalize on my stay.
Nevertheless should be pocket friendly. Somehow it seems the prices are over the roof at this time.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe because you are looking out quite late, most of the regular VFM places seem sold out. I was going to suggest Nanu Resort at Betalbatim otherwise.

Martin's Comfort is available at 2520/- per room on MMT- nice location right near the famous eponymous eatery but it may not be suitable of you have kids along. Heritage Village Resort at Cansaulim is very good and family-friendly but they seem to be charging 13K a night!

If you want a slightly different experience try Stone Water Eco Resort near Dabolim. I've been there myself and we have selected it for a destination wedding in the family later this year. Looks reasonable at 3500/- a night.

Re: Planning for Goa, where to stay?

Monsoon seems to have arrived early. Been overcast and raining, though lightly, throughout the day for the past week or so here in Goa. Sunday was sunny, but that was the only exception. Most of the shacks around the Colva-Benaulim-Betalbatim stretch seem to have shut. There are some functioning at the entrance to Colva beach. Not sure how many tourists are around, so it's surprising to hear that the resorts are full and charging high rates. Personally, I don't see the point of staying by the beach in this weather. The interior/forest areas must be nice and green and the waterfalls must be getting rejuvenated, but personally I'm finding the beach-side gloomy and anyway you can't enter the water now. Nice weather to drive around and explore though and all the attractions away from the beach are open.

Re: Planning for Goa, where to stay?

Hey guys,

We are looking to visit Goa next week along with our cat- 'Toffee'. Request you all to chip in with suggestions for pet/cat friendly accommodations in Goa. North or South doesn't matter much. Our budget is 8k per room for 1 night. We are open to all types of accommodation but hotel stay would be preferred.

Thanks.
