re: Bangalore to Coimbatore : Route Queries

Nijaguna is very good with its facilities but pretty average in food, in my opinion.

If you can manage till Sathyamangalam, you have Ramavilas Hotel, bang on the highway opp. police station when you enter Sathy town, which has been in business for decades and known for taste and quality. They might be closed on Sundays!

Open, but the regulars(maxi cab) use 4/6 headlights in high beam and they never dip the beam, an annoyance in the hill section.

If you want a break from 4 lane roads/tolls, try this:

If taking NH209, kindly take note of this: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...ml#post3219097

Although the roads are good, they are time consuming as the roads pass through densely populated villages from Mettur-CBE.

BTW, how is the section between Thoppur-Mettur and beyond till Bhavani?

Also, if Hosur-Palacode-Dharmapuri is good, we could use it to bye-pass the Hosur-Krishnagiri section and join the NH at Dharmapuri, from where there is no chaos.

Actually, the scene is no different with the NH7 from Krishnagiri to Bangalore!

Thoppur-Mettur is a decent 2 lane with a few speed breakers in between. Mettur to Ammapettai is ok, beyond that it is still broken. Hence the left at Ammapettai to CBE via Sathy.

Hosur-Palacode-Dharmapuri is in acceptable condition, no big potholes and not much traffic. It is easy to keep 60 kmph average speeds. But NH7 is still faster/hassle free. The Pennagaram-Mecheri is a beautiful smooth traffic-free road so no need to go to Dharmapuri-Thoppur if one is proceeding via Mettur.

3 laning work between Hosur and Krishnagiri is now much better, fewer diversions and delays. It is the Hosur checkpost area that sometimes chokes up.

+1 Even I am not in favour of the Mettur option. Too much of local traffic and trucks. And Mettur takes some time to cross.

This is good. Ramzys I think tried Attibele-Hosur bypass-Kelamanagalm-Rayakottai-Palacode-Dharmapuri. I think Kelamanagalam part is not good. But surely the old Dharmapuri highway via Palacode/Rayakottai is very good.

Yes I did hear about this restaurant. But I would still prefer Nijaguna, only because of clean toilets for the family.

It was about 6 months back. The road gets progressively bad after Hosur bypassing. Good surface is only after the road joins the Hosur-Rayakottai road.

If someone has the patience, then it is: http://goo.gl/maps/P0OLx

The rest of the road surface is acceptable, i don't know about D to E.

By the way, there is a railway gate at D.

I did not mean this option Ramzys. I wanted to folks to take the route via Kelamangalam.

Here is the route : (Look at changes in point D and E)

re: Bangalore to Coimbatore : Route Queries

Yesterday took the NH209 to Coimbatore.

Road surface is a bit uneven at the following places:

1) Between Kanakapura and Malavalli, especially around that hillock where it takes a sharp turn.

2) After the Karnataka checkpost in the forest section. 1 or 2 huge potholes, have to be taken at crawling speeds.

Those places where they have dug up across the road has been filled up.

Return is with family on sunday afternoon, hence NH47-NH7 only. Thinking about the queue at the toll gates!

I did it yesterday as well! But took the NH7-47. I could do it in 6.30 hrs despite a 45 min break and traffic congestion in Varthur and Bagalur. There were a lot of KA registered vehicles heading the Salem way though!

So you reckon the return crowd will be taking the roads Sunday or Monday?

10:30 AM at Nice road junction, E-city and 4:40 PM at Hope's signal. The breaks were minimal though.

Since it is a 3 day holiday, sunday evening will be the least preferable timing to be in the NH7 toll gates towards Bangalore. On many occasions the monday morning 3:30 AM start has worked very well: the queue is less and i reach by 9 comfortably.

re: Bangalore to Coimbatore : Route Queries

Just back from Hyderabad-Coimbatore trip this weekend.
Pleasant to see the six lane from Nilambur-Chengapalli.
No markings over the road and the flyovers have speedbreakers.
Best part was Avinashi bypass never knew when I crossed this town.
Permanallur bypass is still under construction.
At 3.30pm Hope's Signal stopped at Shoolagiri Mac Donalds 7.30pm.
Crossed Thoppur ghat toll and Krishnagiri toll in 2mins had very minimal vehicles yesterday evening.

And did you also use NH207? Or did you use any other bypass? That would help collect data for bypass related options.
And also good to read Avinashi bypass works like a charm. Any inputs on exits from the bypass ? Esp the one to Palladam.

In fact I wanted to try out Shoolagiri-Berikai-Baglur missed the turn at Shoolagiri
towards Berikai so stopped at Mac donalds for dinner and proceeded
at the same route of Hosur-Bagalur-Chikkatirupathi-Hoskote-Devanahalli..

It took 1.15hrs to cover from Hosur-Devanahalli.

Yes there are some sign boards towards Avinashi, very small ones might miss
these boards while driving in the night.
I did not notice the direction boards towards Palladam possible I might have
missed seeing them.

NPV, I think you are talking about this spot: http://goo.gl/maps/gNsJB

Nothing is/was happening there.

That news link talks about this spot: http://goo.gl/maps/gnPqV
