You may have see this. But if not- There is a nice thread by Bhpian TKMCE on his Alapuzha-Kollam boat trip. Should give you the info you need.

Thanks. As suggested I will be taking those routes....just to reconfirm on correctness, I have attached the maps above

Thanks for those links...will cover minimum the Palaruvi.
Yes, these routes are what I meant.
The most scenic boat ride, undoubtably is Alleppey-Kollam, but it will take around 8 hours.

There are other sightseeing trips of KSWTD, IIRC. Ask at Alleppey Jetty for details.

Re: All Roads to Kerala

Drove Bangalore to Thrissur today. Took Whitefield -> Bagalur -> Hosur -> Salem -> Coimbatore bypass -> Palakkad -> Thrissur route. Excellent to good roads through out, except for a small stretch around Chavadymukku just before Walayar. 4 lane work complete until just after Alathur in Kerala. Potholes are patched around Kuthiran. Overall drive was a breeze.

Regards, MB.
It's time for me to another Bangalore - Pandalam drive, will be traveling on December 23rd. Nowadays, my usual route is Bangalore - Madurai - Rajapalayam - Tenkasi - Punalur - Pandalam.

Is it worth trying out Kerala route?
I know Bangalore - Coimbatore- Thrissur will be good drive. But worried about later sections. I don't want to touch MC road at its present condition. Is it worth taking this route?
Bangalore - Kochi - Haripad - Mavelikara - Pandalam.

Thanks

Re: All Roads to Kerala

Based on current conditions which is a better option for Bangalore-Udumalaipet ?
1. Bangalore-Hosur-Salem-Perundurai-Kangayam-Dharapuram-Udumalaipet
2. Bangalore-Hosur-Salem-Perundurai-Kangayam-Palladam-Udumalaipet
3. Bangalore-Hosur-Salem-Avinashi-Mangalam-Palladam-Udumalaipet

I seem to be tending towards #3 due to availability of 4 lane roads upto Avinashi and also familiarity on this route as I've take it to Pollachi a few times.
Let me know if you think otherwise.

Not yet complete. But just a few diversions now and very much doable. They have opened up one side of the 4 lane towards last km or two before Walayar.

Hi guys!

Doing a Vellore - Kottayam drive this week.
Was thinking of taking the Salem - Dindigul - Theni - Kumily route.
Has anyone traveled this route recently? Could someone give some pointers on road and traffic conditions?

Thanks in advance!

Coimbatore - Thrissur - MC Road would be my second choice, but am really skeptical keeping in mind the traffic density in Kerala, hence trying to spend minimum time/distance in Kerala!
Could you please elaborate on the 'present condition of MC Road'??

There is huge traffic in Muvattupuzha especially Christmas time and Sabarimala yatris also using this road. Avoid. Last week the traffic block lasted more than 1.5 hours to cross the town when it rained. Kalady junction also a problem region.

Re: All Roads to Kerala

Planning dindugal - theni - kumily - manimala - ranny - pathanamthitta - adoor - kottarakkara route on 23rd. How is the road conditions? Is it too crowded due to sabarimala season?

Also interested to know about short detour to any interesting locations. I am thinking to cover vagamon and panchalimedu.

You may consider Dindigul - Theni - Kumily - Mundakkayam - Erumely - Pathanamthitta- Adoor - Kottarakkara. Roads are good, i did this route 3 weeks ago and planning for another trip to pathanamthitta - late night today.

This time crowd is less towards Kumily -Erumely - Sabarimala, probably crowd may increase during Jan.

Interesting places:
Meghamalai or High Wavy Mountain: 50 KM from Chinnamannur (roads are too bad)
Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary: 5 KM from Kumily
Parunthumpara or eagle rock : 6 Km from Peermedu
Kolahalamedu: 20 Km from Kuttikanam
Gavi: 27 KM from vandiperiyar

Re: All Roads to Kerala

I am driving to Bangalore tomorrow morning. Taking the usual route NH-47/NH-7. I had taken this route till Vadakancherry recently and it was pretty good (although Mannuthy to Vadakancherry is two lane road with patched sections). Expecting very little traffic towards Bangalore as many will be driving down to Kerala for Christmas. Shall update the road conditions along with the toll status/rates tomorrow evening.

Re: All Roads to Kerala

Alert: Many petrol pumps inside Kerala are out of stock for fuel due to a tanker lorry strike.

News article in malayalam

Its better to fill up the tank before entering Kerala if you driving towards Kerala in next 2-3 days until the strike is called off and the supply is back to normal.

Edit: Verified the shortage in fuel around Kochi/TCR with my parents

What are the current petrol prices in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka?
Any significant differences?

Edit: in TN, it is currently INR 60.3/ lit for petrol.
