Thanks, Ashish. If not Saputara, Bhandardara has also been suggested here before. Between the one and the other, which may be more worthwhile? I'm looking for a place to do nothing in for 2-3 days, with some pleasant cool weather to not do it in!

BHANDARDARA is monsoon destination. Forget is at the end of may.
For 2-3 days, nothing beats Mahabaleshwar. There is everything for everyone.

Thanks again, Ashish. Bhandardara is therefore out. So is Saputara. In that case, let me bother you once again. How long from Pune to Mahabaleshwar, and how are the road conditions?

pune - mahabaleshwar-----120 km,

pune-surul----80 km four laned NH4,
surul-mahabaleshwar---40 km scenic state highway.

i don't think you will encounter single pothole in this 120km stretch.

One question lastly which route do you suggest the best

Which route did you take while on your return trip and how much time did it take for darshan. Also about stay, where did you stay and the cost.

KVS - Thank you for the update.
On return Shirdi -> Ahmadnagar -> Pune -> Belgaum -> Bangalore.
We stayed in Shirdi for 3 days, on normal weekdays from monday to thrusday it takes about an hour to hour and a half. from thrusday to sunday it takes somewhat more time.
In the evening, after 8:30PM till 9:45 PM you can get darshan in 20-30 min.
We stayed in MTDC Pilgrim's Inn. It is very close to Temple.
Cost is 1000/- for AC double-bed room.
You can book the accomodation on the maharastra tourism website.

Hi All,

I am planning to drive from Bangalore to Shirdi and Shingnapur on my Alto LX. The dates are yet to be confirmed. I will have my wife and 3 year old daughter traveling with me.
Can anyone let me know if I can cover the distance within a day? I have driven the car upto 100 kmph on the NH 4 upto Sira Taluk.
Is there any place to stay between Bangalore and Pune in case I need to break for the day? How much time have anyone taken on an Alto to reach Shirdi?
Look forward to receiving some advice.

Gautam, best is to take room at Pune and then continue the next day i guess as you are the only person to drive.

Yes Bangalore shiridi is 1100km approximate . Advice is to take rest overnight, as you are the lone driver .

Guys finally seems like i have made some time for Shirdi trip, now since i alone will be going the question is should i drive or take the train..

Though am very keen to drive...train looks like a feasible option..

Anyone has traveled in train to Shirdi? whats was the experience like?
last i traveled in train was about 6+years back...

Drive would definitely be a long haul and considering it is just Shirdi and back, your "in car time" would be more than your "out of car time" also the route isnt exactly through the best of green terrain:(,unless ofcourse you are contemplating the BLR-NH4-PUNE-SHIRDI route, then it is a very good route, but more in distance.Go for the train.Take the Karnataka Exp to Kopargaon, there is also a weekly once Ahmedabad Exp which goes through K'gaon. There is also Sainagar station that has opened at Shirdi, though my guess is that it has trains running only to Pune & Mumbai,
