Re: Bangalore to Sirsi : Route Queries

The anticipated road closure has not happened till now. Did Bangalore - Gokarna, no bad road section as such.

Details here (Bangalore - Gokarna : Route Queries).

You can still drive to Sirsi via Davanagere, Haveri

Hi Aniketh! Thanks for this update. Did you drive and when was it? How are diversions after Chitradurga after recent spate of rains?

There is one small bridge that comes between Haveri and Hanagal. That is the only grey area. Unless of course it rains so heavy in the next 24 to 48 hrs that parts of the main highway itself submerge. I have the option of taking the train to Haveri and get a taxi to come and pick us up from Haveri station. But that would be too boring. And that bridge comes into the picture with this option too. A drive in the monsoon is very enjoyable but these rains may be too much. Hoping it subsides in the next 48 hrs. We plan to leave on Thursday .

P.S. : Posting here since it is more relevant here.

I drove on Sunday, Im still here in my native (14km from Sirsi). On Sunday the drive was a breeze - it drizzled till about Chalagere Toll Plaza and after the Haveri turnoff and when nearing Sirsi, it started pouring cats and dogs.

No Issues regarding the bridge b/w Haveri and Hanagal. You can cross it safely. I did the drive in a low slung Verna. Haveri-Akki Alur remains fantastic. Akki-Alur-Sirsi has got a new coat of Tar.

Diversions b/w Chitradurga Davangere is a little messy what with the rains and the mud, its a slush fest but nothing you can't do with a modern car.

Post Davangere, the six laning is complete in patches, some areas the markings haven't been painted. All in all, easy drive if you're destination is Sirsi.

Hi Aniketh, any recent update on Haveri to Sirsi road conditions? I am slated to drive there in a couple of weeks. I heard that Hanagal cross to Sirsi was in a very bad state till a couple of months ago. My daughter tends to throw up when we encounter crater infested roads. Cleaning the mess is a nightmare!

G- maps is showing Ranebennur - Haunsbhavi - Ekkambi - Sirsi by default. How is this option? I've never taken this route. I don't think it's worth going via Shimogga given how much time it adds due to the two lane state roads. I heard Siddapur - Sirsi is also very patchy.

Here's a more recent update from Aniketh on 5th November where he mentioned that Akki Alur-Sirsi-Kumta is terrible.

I’m here again right now (heading to Karwar tomorrow). Dont take the Haunsbhavi-Ekkambi-Route. That route is also patchy, narrow in some sections and has quite a bit of twists and turns.

Stick to Haveri-Sirsi route.

Haveri-Akki Alur : 2 lane remains fantastic as before, the humps and rumbler strips have been toned down.

Akki Alur-Bisalkoppa : is a little patchy and rough but no big potholes. I could easily manage in a sedan.

Bisalkoppa-Isloor-Sirsi : this was terrible a few months back. This WAS worst section on this entire route. Now, it has been completely redone. Butter smooth Tarmac all through till Sirsi.

Stick to the Haveri-Sirsi route.

Siddapur - Sirsi is also very patchy, but doable.

Wow, thanks! Bisalkoppa to Sirsi is always the issue. If this stretch has been fixed, there is no need to look at any other route option.

Re: Bangalore to Sirsi : Route Queries

I have tried the Ummachagi > Pala > Hanagal route to avoid the bad stretch between Yekkumbi and Sirsi but it turned out to be no better.
PS: Just read that 'Bisalakoppa > Sirsi' is fixed and yes there is no need to try out any alternative.

There are two routes to reach Pala from Ummachagi. Which route did you take? Is it via Bharatanahalli and Chipageri or via Bharani and Isaloor?

Route via Chipageri was always bad and its not advisable for any sedan or hatchbacks. AFAIK the route via Bharani was in good condition compared to the one in Chipageri road this year in May, You just need to take a right turn after Mavinakatta and head towards Isaloor.

Via Bharatanahalli and Chipageri. In the onward journey, I tried to reach Ummachagi from Yekkumbi but ended up loosing way and reached Ummachagi via Mavinakatta. Google-map lead us to nowhere in the middle of the forest and announced 'you have reached your destination'. Case of someone wrongly tagging the location?

Thats a problem allover locations near Sirsi and Yellapur. There are lot of Wrong tagging of locations especially near these areas and lack of network connectivity also creates lot of problems.

Attached screenshot is the best example.

This exactly (2 Umachagis) had mislead me . Apparently both are Ummachagis and one of them has a prefix.
