Maguire has to go! He is nowhere near a world class defender. Just look at the 2 yellows he got against Watford - both were his own mistakes, the 2nd one unforced. You can't have such a guy having the arm band in such a huge club as Manchester United.

De Gea would be a better choice. Or even Cristiano Ronaldo. Maguire just has to go.

Re: The Football Thread

One exit that needs to happen foremost, is Alex Ferguson. The man's owed all the respect his enormous success deserves, but nobody is going to succeed as United manager while he hangs around as a reminder of the past.

A bit like Bob Paisley insisting Bill Shankly be kept away after he took over from the latter at arch rivals Liverpool in the 70s.

Re: The Football Thread

Goal of the season contender from Bernardo Silva yesterday? With David Silva gone and De Bruyne struggling for fitness, Bernardo is cementing a spot in the City midfield, and the guy can dribble like the best of them too, see the one against Liverpool for example.

The complete midfield package, and to think he was rumoured to be leaving not too long ago!

Great goal but seen a few like this recently right? Gabriel Martinelli’s goal against New Castle on the weekend as an example.

And classy exit by Carrick – 3 matches and leaving on a high!

Defeating Arsenal should feel good. Not to mention, Ronaldo has scored consistently too.

Oh yes! Some real worldies this season, and it's not even halfway yet.

The Man City - Leicester City (EPL) match is going absolutely nutters. They’ll need 45 mins just to cover highlights at this rate!

Re: The Football Thread

The 3-way race for the EPL championship is already over at the half way mark with Man City opening up a substantial lead. After the Chelsea vs Liverpool match on Sunday which I expect to be drawn, I will stop following the league for the remainder of the season.

Re: The Football Thread

What a game of football last night between Arsenal and City with the former being a revelation. Saka and Mancinellis blistering runs up the pitch had City running ragged and it could so easily have been 2-1 in the gunners favour without the controversial penalty and Gabriel's unnecessary challenge.

Hoping that City would lose, giving Liverpool and Chelsea a shot at the league

I’m a Man City fan and rooting for them for CL and EPL both, but last night you really felt for Arsenal - they clearly outplayed City and held their own even post the red card. Even Pep admitted they were lucky with that result and admitted it was a below par performance.

Even when down to 10 men they kept MCI completely out of the box area. They were phenomenal throughout the game and got punished for their few and far between individual errors. They must surely also be ruining missing the empty face of goal attempt shortly after the MCI penalty.

You could tell the way the players had collapsed on the pitch at the final whistle - both sides had given everything out there in that final third of the match as well. Incredible game. I’m looking forward to the LIV - CHE fixture now tonight. As an MCI fan, I’m hoping for a draw - a strong lead will give MCI some breathing space to be able to focus on the CL as well.

Re: The Football Thread

One of the best cup finals in recent memory!

Had it all: ebbs & flows, missed sitters, great goalkeeping, disallowed goals, and a penalty shootout that went right to the keepers, with Kepa unfortunately coming a cropper.

On a pitch full of international superstars, who would've bet on Caoimhin Kelleher to score the winner?

Absolute cracker!
In the recent past Kepa refused to get substituted in the cup final and this time he was brought in. Unfortunately for him, the results were identical.

Re: The Football Thread

So, Chelsea's cheat code is expiring after long!

Will they find a sugar daddy with another cheat code or will they have to operate like most other clubs do?? Will be interesting to see how this unravels.

Re: The Football Thread

Luis Diaz is electric! End product not quite there, but it's still early days.

Manchester derby should be interesting - IF the energetic Utd turn up, one never knows these days - esp. with Ruben Dias out injured for a month or so. City have decent cover for CB but Dias has become as important to City's back line as van Dijk is to Liverpool's.
