Re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

Argentinian attack is surely missing Di Maria.

EDIT: 1-0. Looks like the end.

Re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

Even Germany fans would have felt sorry after seeing Messi's face at the end. :(

Anyways, the better team has won.

God save those who save themselves. Higuain, Messi, you never deserved to be on the winning side. It was only the defenders who held you all till the 113rd minute and that minute Gotze was unmarked.

Germany clearly deserved the title for all the play in this tournament and for some past 8-9 years.

Re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

Germany has won.

Golden glove : Manuel Neuer ( Think Navas deserved it more.)
Golden Ball : Messi (Again, I dont think so he deserves it.).
Golden boot : James Rodriguez . Wonderful talent and who;lly deserves it.

Despite supporting Germany, i have to admit Argentina played hard. The missed opportunities by them will leave them lamenting over them.

Germany held their base, and struck in a brilliant finish. Well, its cruel, but then thats how it has to eventually happen.

Tactically a good game overall, I still feel that Germans were vulnerable with the formation. You can't win a world cup final if you miss three clear open chances ( Argentina), any other day better forward would have converted at least two of those.

I am not sure what do you mean by Messi not deserving it. Except for the last two games where he was marked heavily forcing him to play deep, which again is an advantage for a good forward to capitalize ( which Arg failed ). He is the one who was responsible for Argentina to qualify ( 24 goals in 23 matches ). Let's not forget his were the goals which pushed Argentina forward. He made a very mediocre team look good.

Its always easy to score when you have a team like Germany. Things require a lot of efforts when you are a one man army.

Buddy, if you have followed the entire world cup closely there have been so many other players who have played much better than Messi. He may have been good but not exactly the person who deserves this award. In the finals too he missed couple of chances. In this case clearly his reputation came ahead of his actual contribution.

The award is for only this tournament and not during qualifiers. In the group stages he was effective again but not great as you would expect from him. For me it would have been Muller or Bastian Schweinsteiger. Mascherano was brilliant too!!

End of artistry and flair. The clinicians beat the artists, after decimating the originals!!

This makes Messi player of the tournament, right?
I think what worked in his favour was, he played a clean game. He never pretended to be injured when fouled upon. Despite being marked by multiple players all the time, he didn't lose his cool and commit a foul. He didn't get any yellow card, or am I wrong?

Of course, there were many other top-rated/overrated players, but eventually only one player should get selected.

Yes I do agree to it but thats not the only criteria right. Maschareno, Lamn and Rodriguez had a wonderful world cup as well. Messi had 4 goals and 1 assist. Muller had 5 goals and 3 assists. Messi didnt even touch the ball in the penalty area during the 120 minutes against Holland.

I am not belittling Messi but just stating that he doesn't deserve this golden ball award. There is a huge debate going on this as well.

+1 to that. Brazil looks like a spent force and are just holding on to their glory days. There is no more samba left in their football.

Re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

Oh well. One chink in the armour and Germany scored.

I'll have to wait 4 more years! But its ok - used to heartbreaks. I'm an Arsenal fan also

But a beautifully tactical match it was. Deserving of the final. But Higuain - you do not miss the open goal like that. Lavezzi gave his heart out. I too don't think Messi deserved the Golden Ball.

Germany were ok ok. They didn't really play superbly.

Re: The Football World Cup 2014 Thread

It was a very intense and tight game. Time just flashed by and Argentina gave it an almighty fight. And one moment of brilliance was all it took to separate the teams. Was a very well taken goal.

No one will say Germany didn't deserve it. Khedira couldn't make it and Schweinsteiger was immense and very brave. Reports say he was twitching on the sidelines when he got that stitch on that cut on the face. I felt really bad for Messi after the whistle. I have a feeling he knew this was his best chance of the golden trophy. But he should keep his chin up. At least his Argentina is 7 times better than the neighbors.

Overall, a very good world cup. Thoroughly enjoyed it. And glad for the Gooners with a medal at the world cup! Can't wait for EPL to start.
