Yeah, right!

Yeah, right!
The thing is their own admission into the hospital will come through govt quota and private hospitals can charge only what is fixed by the govt !

But I was saddened comparing the speed with which they get admitted to hospital and start the treatment compared to common people.

There seem to be multiple Wahl Clippers on Amazon. Can you give a link/model number of the one you use? Can you do it yourself? Or do you need someone else to clip your hair?

I bought this model in May from a local dealer for ₹3500 when they were selling the same product online for over ₹4300 and have used it twice since then without getting any help from others.

https://www.flipkart.com/wahl-08466-...m45df96b9bf80b

The model is sturdy & comes with 4 adapters for changing cutting length. Start with a lengthier adapter (say 10 or 13 mm) so that even if you fumble you can correct it.

Do note that this model do not have a inbuilt battery, so needs to be plugged during operation.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

Recovered from Covid, joined duty 2 days back. Was held up with few things, sorry for not keeping updated. Thanking all out there who shared their concern and wishes. Was it scary? You bet, for an ex-Chronic smoker I was in very high risk category and my exposure was with only critically ill patients, that made me really worried. Having two small kids and an unemployed wife made things more stressed. Hope none of you have to go through the emotional trauma. I don’t want to say I conquered Covid and all as it is disrespectful to all those lost their lives against this illness. My deepest condolences for all those who have been affected, wish you are able to tide over this unfathomable period of grief. Wear good N95 (proper ones with correct markings and certifications) masks if possible, stay safe all.

Great to know Doc you are well and recovered from Covid. It really is a very challenging time for doctors and nurses who are in the frontline. Hope that you had a full recovery and no permanent pulmonary damage. What treatment protocol did you follow - it would be very helpful for all if could share. Thanks!

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

The Rationalist, Glad to know that you are better

Went out for first time in 4 months. My poor-anyway hearing was so waxed up that I had no hearing in one ear, and not much in the other.

It really was good to drive! After 4 months in the house, there was a mental barrier to going out at all. Was actually shy to take the car out alone, so had to disturb wife who was busy with other things.

ENT doc was masked and face-shielded. Did his stuff. Phew, I can hear (a bit more) again.

Went to one shop where the woman was not wearing a mask properly and talking loudly. Hey ho....

I know the barber so at most he would he asymtomatic carrier if at all.
What other precaution can I take?
Cutting them myself is not really an option
I have had two haircuts since the lockdown began. Both in proper salons. There is no need to be paranoid. If the barber wears a mask then it is even better. The biggest worry is the closed nature of the place with many people in there. In your case it is outside so the risk is quite low. You can try to wear a mask at least part of the time if it makes you feel better. I didn't as he needed to cut around the ears and the mask has retention cords behind the ears. We have to balance safety with leading a somewhat normal life which involves taking the odd calculated risk.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

The curious case of Pakistan.

Coronavirus cases in our neighbouring country started nearly at the same time as India around March end.

Notwithstanding the population difference, the Coronavirus spread seems to have been controlled very well. Atleast statistically.

Here is the Daily cases graph, as you can see, they have not only flattened it but the new cases are going down each passing day.

The Coronavirus Thread-pak.jpg

What could be the reasons for such steep decline in our neighbouring country, given that India is still struggling with high caseload and exponential increase in new cases ?

I am specially surprised since Pak did not even go for a full lockdown (it was i think only partial lockdown in certain districts).

The health care system is more or less same on an average, as per my understanding, compared to India.

What makes India continue to struggle with COVID-19 whereas our neighbours have contained it very well ?

Note: Same applies for Bangaladesh, Nepal, Srilanka, Bhutan.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

The obvious questions - How many are they testing? And how are they selecting who to test?

One can be an anomaly - but so many of them doing better, over a multiple month period clearly shows that what our govt / we are doing is wrong.

And if you go on to the streets, there's a lot of things that are visibly going wrong - there's lockdown fatigue heavily across the country. People aren't wearing masks, or if they are, they keep it under the chin or partially covered (nose open). Spoke to folks across the country, it's the same case everywhere.

Whether one considers this normal or not, a 50k per day infection rate is the new normal.

Doesn't matter when you look at a 3-5 month time frame IMHO.

There's a lack of focus on us/govt actions once the lockdown was partially lifted, which is scary if you ask me. Instead we are celebrating small wins (Dharavi, etc). We are now >2/3rd of Brazil and 2/5 of US numbers. I estimate about ~1 month to catch-up with Brazil and 2-3 months to go ahead of US if we continue on the current path.

I have been driving/riding at least once every ten days. If I had no work anywhere, I will simply drive beyond Kathipara flyover, take a U turn and go back home! 26 km round trip! Car one day, bike the next. Never stop anywhere, never roll windows down, never remove mask and never open helmet visor.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread

All 4 members of a house barely 60 feet from my home are Corona Positive. This thing is coming nearer and nearer. Thinking of going back to Ahmedabad tomorrow, its now slightly more scarier than before. Moreover, people are really, really not taking things seriously. Went to passport office today to give application for my passport renewal, one of the reasons why I came to Vadodara from Ahmedabad. Social distancing was an alien concept. Asked a lady behind me to stand at the "stay here" mark on wall. Appreciate the clear markings here. But I was met with blank stare and few angry words. A few employees at Passport Seva Kendra were trying to bring in some sense, but nothing helped. Masks were more or less either handkerchief or home made ones. And only mouth was covered with mask, not nose. No wonder, we are having record number of new cases daily. There has to be discipline now, considering the massive impact of Corona on all of our lives. Russian vaccine and the one from India if it comes early in this month or next atleast can be stress busting. However, one thing I observed is lesser traffic in Vadodara post 10 pm despite no curfew.
