Re: The Music Thread

Received this link through whatsapp which has a good collection based on the year chosen.
It is mostly pop numbers with videos. It took me back to my younger days when I used to watch music videos on MTV and wait for certain songs which they used to repeat through the day.

Re: The Music Thread

I know Gully Boy has bought some focus on this genre but there are some unique things afoot. Two of the big boys of desi rap, Divine and Emiway have begun a beef with each other. There was some some low-key slanging going on earlier but Divine just ratcheted that up with a couple of diss tracks that he dropped this week.

I've been listening to rap for a very long time. Sach Bol Patta is pretty much as good as it gets when it comes to lyrics, flow and overall aggression. Brilliant stuff. Parental advisory lyrics of course.

And Naezy dropped his new album Maghreb earlier this year. He is excellent as usual.

Just the kind of stuff we need for lockdown blues.

But his is going to be the fate of all the villages and cities and businesses if this lockdown isnt lifted soon.

Re: The Music Thread

Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Rolling Stones, David Bowie gave us different genres of music but had one thing in common - they claimed inspiration from one man - Little Richard - aka The King - aka the pioneer of Rock and Roll.

Little Richard passed away yesterday at 87.

Little Richard, rock 'n' roll pioneer dies

Here he is supposedly at the Buckingham Palace:

There were two actually.

The Queen's Golden Jubilee concert was held on the grounds of Buckingham Palace. Tickets were sold through a lottery as there was a huge demand. Most British rock / pop icons participated in the concert. It was called "Party at the Palace". It began with this "God save the Queen" being played from the top of Buckingham Palace:

Eric Clapton at that concert:

The second was the Diamond Jubilee Concert held at the Mall. This was in 2012. Similar to the earlier concert, almost all British rock / pop icons participated.

Elton John at that concert:

Re: The Music Thread

This unassuming Nepali kid is well on the way to win American Idol 2020.

Arthur Gunn seems to have the judges spell bound like no other contestant has in the past.

Here's he puts a reggae spin on a country number during virtual auditions a few days ago:

Absolutely, yes indeed! It is what brought me to India and specifically to Chennai in the first place.

Now, I have not been to a concert since March 13th, and I have no clue when I next will. It is particularly sad, because I would have sponsored a concert on July 4th, and my most revered and favourite artist, Smt R Vedavalli, would have sung.

July 4th 2019:

And she first sang for me (I was so shy about asking!) on my 60th birthday in 2012
