here's one feedback on Ghajini ( and its not mine):

My wife's at her parents place this vacations with my kids and she got a chance to watch Ghajini ( you never take me to movies do you -- huh) -- her reaction was like this --

Its ok -- Aamir has acted well, but you know this movie is very similar to Tere Naam.

Ok i am no movie buff so i took her words at that moment. I have not seen either movie so i cannot comment. So I read all the available reviews of Ghajini and there is no mention of Tere Naam anywhere. I know both the above movies are remakes of Ghajini and Sethu made in Tamil , but are these 2 similar in any way?

Nope they are not.

Ghajini is about short term memory loss and the other is about is more in lines of a retard!( is this the right term?)

Well, if you term them both as a mental condition post an accident / incident, then they are similar!

I really loved this movie! The animation in this is top class, with a lot of humour thrown in for good measure. It is a certain entertainer with a story which although predctable is still not a bore.

It dwelves around a panda who dreams of becoming a Kung Fu expert, as against his father's dreams of him taking up their family noodle business. How he manages to overcome the odds up against him forms the storyline.

Worth a watch.

Benyboy Rating : ***1/2
Chandni Chowk to China coincidently similar to Kung Fu Panda

Cant they do anything original? Almost every movie seems to be a lift off from some Hollywood movie(s).

I watched Ghajini yesterday with wife. Both of us loved the movie, not because its flawless, but because it entertaining. Rarely there are movies over 3 hours long which do not make you yawn. Except for the songs(which are very well picturised, there is no yawn part. Nowhere you feel bored.
The purpose of this movie is entertainment, and it brilliantly succeeds in that!

Taken

Story of a protective father who does all he can to save his daughter from the clutches of a kidnapping ring, who eventually force the kidnapped gals into prostitution.

Very predictable, save for the stunts and action sequences which are Bourne-like. The background score can also be related to being similar to the Bourne series.

Watch if you just wanna pass some time, and not get bored doing it.

yeah...seems similar but i think it could be a coincidence. thats because last year (much before KFP released) i remember reading about Akshay Kumar training for this movie in china. i suppose some scenes like the the potato slicing one might have been added after KFP was out.

Danny Boyle had never visited India before Slumdog Millionaire, I was really impressed with how real the movie was.

Saw "Australia" last night. Utterly boring movie about an English lady (Nicole Kidman) going to Australia to look for her husband who she finds dead there. And how she is helped by this bloke (Hugh Jackman) in rounding up a herd of cattle so that she may regain some of husband's fortunes. Full yawn-fest.

Exactly, and that's why he portrays India with jammed nallahs, people emerging from ****, carving an eye out for begging, prostitution, police giving electric shocks to people as a daily routine, people laughing at a chaiwala at KBC. Just the way westerners perceive India, and what the jury at toronto film festival would like India to be portrayed as. Slumdon asks for sandwich when hungry, which clearly tells whom the movie has been made for. I mean would a guy who rose from the slums crave for sandwiches and muffins when hungry?
While portraying India they forget the Indian middle class which is larger than the entire US population and stck to poverty, human rights violation etc. Not that these donot occur here but there is more to India. No this is not the demand of the story, this is the demand of the target audience for whom the movie was made, sitting at western film festivals. How many films depict the dark side of the west or is it free from vices? Why do they send lagaan to Oscars but not RDB, because RDB doesnot portray indians as poor and oppressed and this wouldn't sound palatable to international jury. Basically Boyle has played safe.

Not trying to argue or hurt anyone but trying to see things from a different angle. Personally I found the movie disgusting the way it shows India. the direction and photography however were intelligent.

I watch movies for entertainment, and this was not entertainment.
But agree with you on director and actor's job.
