If this were the case, why did he allow himself to be sued? He could have acquired Twitter back in April itself and fired Parag & Co, no?

Some points that I collected while following the story:

1. Musk might have really wanted to walk away given the impact the deal had on Tesla's share price (it was $340 in April before he announced the acquisition, today it is near $230). But Twitter's move of suing him in the Chancery Court stumped him.

2. Musk had been repeatedly avoiding his own deposition. There is a theory that Peiter Zatko, the Twitter whistleblower, might have had contact with him. Must finally agreed to go ahead with the deal only to preempt his deposition altogether.

3. Musk was possibly spooked by the Chancery Court decision in the Stream TV case which may have said that the court had the power to take away his Tesla shareholding and turn it over to Twitter to the tune of $44B. He didn't want to stay and find out.

Also, suing Elon was no doubt a burning of bridges; I expect Parag & co must have been aware of this when they signed on the lawsuit paperwork. They must have been prepared for their own exit from the company should Musk end up with ownership.

Lastly, all these firings and layoffs means he's inheriting Twitter with little or no continuity; how well that plays out only time can tell. There is a $13B debt that Musk has brought with him into Twitter that needs to be serviced; the new CFO has their work cut out.

How is Parag toxic and Musk isn't? What qualifies as toxic anyway?

What last laugh? Buying Twitter was never a serious play at the quoted price. At least that's the way I see it. He realized and tried to back out. The courts said no way. And that's what prompted the last minute purchase one day before the deadline. And at prices much higher than the company's valuation demands.

Buying Twitter gives extraordinary influence on public discourse, so its a fantastic acquisition. Opportunities to mould and change the narrative. One that Murdoch, Bezos, Zuckerberg and closer home some industrialists know. Its an amazing way to have oversized power on media, but not a prudent purchase fiscally.

Being the loudest speaker in a public town square (that's what Twitter is) comes with its own risks. If someone has been following Kanye they'd know that narcissistic people can create a sh#tstorm and lose everything fairly quickly.

Twitter is a distraction if Musk will be running it as a micro manager. He should let able people trim it to size and run it on a path towards profitability. And he himself should focus on Tesla and SpaceX as they're going to drive growth.

Obviously I could be wrong, just my 2 cents. I'll be watching Twitter and also Jack's next attempt of a Signal-like protocol with great interest.

Quoting him regarding the fee for verified users.

The fee, he said, will be adjusted by "country proportionate to purchasing power parity". Mr Musk did not specify the method used to decide "purchasing power".

So people from India will not get any advantage. Why not use GDP Elon ?

Re: Elon Musk offers to buy Twitter for US$ 41 billion. EDIT: Acquires Twitter for $44 billion

One man's revolution is another man's terrorism. This is the classical back and forth between RWs and LWs happening on Twitter and to smaller extent on other social media. Fascism and Racism have killed millions, so as communism and revolutions.
So no one is holier than thou in this battle. Insurrection in USA will be censured but in India/third world country this is revolution. In US any one questioning election process will be de-platformed. In India this is a democratical right. This is the bias RW users are pointing out.

The power Twitter wields is enormous. The raw news as it breaks will be available on Twitter before any media outlet. But can the content moderator sitting in Twitter office decide what to censor and what not? There was an attack on the husband of speaker of USA. Lot of conspiracy theories floating around. She is the 3rd most guarded person in USA. No CCTV, no witness, no body cam of Police available as of now. MSM is not interested in asking the right questions. Same with Hunter Biden episode. Same with Covid. If some one raises doubts in twitter, they are censured even after Elon Musk takeover. One may agree or disagree. These may be conspiracy theorists, but why mask their voices? Let people decide what is wrong and what is right. Racism, Facsism, Call for violence, trolling weaker sections all should be censured. But are the above instances coming under these categories. Neutrality is what, should be preserved on such platforms with powerful impact on public life and policy.

Smart Move. He knows that he overpaid. Quick way to pay back investors is to charge existing users. There are around 300Mio twitter users, even if half start paying $8/month, just do the math, he will be able to fund this acquisition.

Of course, twitter will still be a "Digital Town hall" open for all to voice all opinions. You just need to pay for your seat and to get your voice drowned. It also plays well into his target of reducing unverified accounts too. Being a bot/troll/leftist/pseudo-what-not in twitter is going to be costly in the long run. A certain Donald must be celebrating.

Correction - Anyone questioning the 2020 elections will be de-platformed. Anyone who questioned the 2016 elections are celebrated.

Ironically, according to the US Left, election fraud/"Russian interference" happened when Obama was the president; and free and fair elections happened when Trump was the president .

In matured democracies, the current President should not be involved in the election process, I believe the free and fair elections was because of various govt agencies and nothing to do with Trump as president.

I will be astonished if even 5% of the Twitter users (300 million as you say) choose to pay $8/month for this blue tick.

Rumours swirling that twitter could become a payment system using bitcoin or crypto architecture with ready access to millions of users across the world and probably instantaneous acceptance.

Thanks to musk ofcourse.

I don’t see why this isn’t possible.

You all have no idea how deep and rich the political discourse is in US, unlike in India where journalists are regularly targeted based on their reporting, however factual it may be! There is a reason why India is ranked 150 out of 180 on the Press Freedom Index.

Re: Elon Musk offers to buy Twitter for US$ 41 billion. EDIT: Acquires Twitter for $44 billion

Elon Musk plans to cut about 3,700 jobs at Twitter Inc or half of the company's workforce in a bid to cut costs.

Musk also intends to reverse the social media company's existing work from anywhere policy and will require employees to work from office though some exceptions could be made.

It will be a huge step in legitimizing crypto and Twitter could become THE Web3 company.

Already Doge is up 3x on this rumour. Musk tweeted a pic of a Shiba yesterday.

Lots of Doge holders have made bank the last time when this happened and similarly many lost loads.

How does one know if its serious or market manipulation? The SEC just watches idly.
