Any pointers to a good place in Bangalore to have authentic Chole Bathure, Chaats. I have tried out Kartik Sweets, Kanti Sweets - not to my liking. Used to like them at the hotel (cant recollect the name) at HSR BDA complex. But that has closed down now
On a diff note, loved these at the erstwhile Gokul Chaat in Hyderabad. Any place similar here in Bglr.

You could try Airlines Hotel off Lavelle Road. The Chole Bathuras they serve are quite large (the Bathura) and is tasty too. But be prepared to shell out about 70-100 bucks for a good meal there.

You could also try Kedia Fun Foods in Jayanagar 4th Block, diagonally opposite the Police Station, behind Veeks & Thomas. :)

There is a Davangere Benne Dose joint in Bangalore :D

I've been to it a few times, but can't recollect the exact location. It's somewhere in Jayanagar/Baswangudi.

The dose they serve at this joint is 99.9% just like the ones you get in Davangere town. :)

How far is this place from Benson town.?

Plan to go there this Sunday.

You can't go wrong with CTR, Malleshwaram. Its just off Margosa road opposite the playground. I forgot the cross number, maybe 5th?

Or, once you reach the playground, look for a large group of people waiting on the pavements/road at the corner. It would be CTR. :D

Where is the playground.?

Any specific timing.?

I'm assuming from Nandi Durga Road/Benson Town bridge, it wouldn't be much. Perhaps 6-8 km?

There is a huge field/playground right next to CTR. The best time to go to CTR is early in the mornings, around 6-7 am on weekends. Or you could go any time in the mornings. But be prepared to face a pig crowd of people, even at 6 am at times. And be prepared to wait for 15-30 minutes or so for your meal. It's generally breakfast with some knick-knacks like Mysore Bonda and Mangaloor Bajji. :)

Why dont you try Khao Galli near Sajjan Rao circle. From what I know, its basically one road filled with street food vendors of various kinds. Its pretty much an institution in itself, and you get a wide variety of vegetarian street food, ranging from pau bhaji to dosas to jalebis to other knick knacks.

He was asking about a Benne Dose outlet near MG road/Indiranagar/Frazer town so, I did not suggest him the best benne dose restaurants in Bangalore west area.

Nope. Both server very nice and crisp masala dosa none the less.

^^ CTR is arguably, the best place for a good masala-dosa, IMO. Nothing, not even the mad crowd on Sunday mornings, will stop me from getting up early and driving all the way from Indiranagar to Malleswaram just to get me a plate or two, of one of those. :D

Absolutely! Don't miss visiting Janata restaurant in the vicinity for crisp vada and very tasty sambar!

Just wondering if MTR (the original joint near Lalbagh) is worth a visit. They seem to have very restrictive timings and I've heard there are long wait times.

Also, has anyone been to Vidhyarthi Bhavan (in Basavanagudi) recently? The last time I was there was in 2007, we had to wait for about 20 min, but it was worth it. The dose was amazing! But I've also heard that the quality seems to have gone down over the years.

MTR does not serve benne dose and the news about Vidyarthi Bhavan is incorrect. It still is the same, one of the very best for masala dosa.

+1 to that. But, don't assume that you will get very best benne dose there.

After going through some of SILVERWOOD's reviews and rants, I don't think he would mind trying out places, whichever part of the city they are located in, as long as the recommendation is good ;)

And yes, you're right. CTR, MTR and the other places mentioned don't serve authentic Benne Dose. However, the place I mentioned in Baswangudi does! AT least 95% authentic. I didn't find much too difference between the benne dose you get in Davangere and the benne dose you get here in some parts of west Bangalore. As I said, it's not 100% perfect. But close. :)

Had steak @
1. The Grill House, Indiranagar - Disappointing. Asked for a medium steak, got it brown, rubbery and overcooked.
2. FAME, kammanahalli - portion is way too much for one person. Was medium-well done when i had asked for just medium. Wasted more than half the plate. A first for me - the wasting.

Guess its tough to get a steak cooked exactly how you want it, unless you take the task upon yourself. Either the quality of meat suffers or the chef over cooks it.

Have to try Millers next.

Millers 46 is good, so is the Grill House in Ulsoor, just after the Taj & The Park hotels.

The Only Place off Church Street appeals to me with their non - veg dishes. Give them a try too !

Not sure if Sunnys has good steaks

Sunny's has an AWESOME Salmon Teriyaki. It is a nice chunk of salmon with teriyaki sauce. One of the best dishes I've eaten in a long time!

I don't know about the Grill House in Indiranagar, but I've tried the one in Ulsoor, and it's brilliant. Great food, wonderful ambiance and a great experience overall!

Sunny's is arguably the best place for any kind of Continental food. It might be expensive, but it's worth every rupee you spend. Everything they serve has been top-class, every time we've been there. It has become our 'go-to' place in case there ever is a debate on where we should lunch. :)

You are right Suhaas.Distance will not deter me from trying out far off places as long as the food is amazing.I used to travel from Kalkaji-south Delhi to chandni chowk twice or thrice a week to have fried chicken.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BTW-I had been to ZAOQ last evening for dinner and ordered the following (SILVERWOOD+2)

1, NV Platter
2, Butter Chicken
3, Assorted bread
4, Fresh lime juice

The NV platter was zimbly amazing.Priced at 350, this was the pick of the evening.Very well marinated and juicy chicken and fish tikka.Mutton and chicken sheek kebabs were equally good.

Butter chicken was as bad it can be.Priced at 200, it was the one of the worst Butter chicken of my gastronomical adventure till date.

Butter naan were not soft as it should normally be.

Fresh lime juice was not served chilled after my request and to my horror, they did not have ice cubes.

Total damages-Rs 705.

One good thing is the prices in menu are all inclusive. No VAT,Service charge and Service tax charged extra.

Will be visiting Elements @ Nandidurg road this evening.
Koshy's for tomorrow's dinner &
Konark for Sunday's dinner.

Waseem, I am developing severe acidity after coming to know that you are going to enjoy food at my favourite restaurant.

Feel like flying in just for the meal but as luck has it, I have guests at home this weekend.

Enjoy, my friend, enjoy!!!
