Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

My mom has digeplex tablets when she has mild stomach issues (not common, only occasionally). But all of a sudden, digeplex seems to have disappeared from the market. Can someone suggest some other commonly available replacements for Digeplex? She is in Bombay. I know I can look up in 1mg or pharmeasy, but I have found that 1/2 the meds listed there aren't available with local chemists.

Check the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadi Kendra in your area. A chance that it may be available there.

No, that tablet or equivalent isn't even manufactured under Jan Aushadi.

Are these contactless infrared thermometers as accurate as the regular under your tongue thermometers? At what price range would you get an accurate contactless thermometer & at what price range would you get an accurate under-the-tongue thermometer? In the under-the-tongue thermometers, are the anolog ones more accurate or the digital ones - or is there no difference?

I think that the electronic ones may vary, and an old-fashioned thermometer provides a reference point.

I wish that I still had one of the "ancient" mercury clinical thermometers, the kind that had to be shaken to reset. On the other hand, I have no reason to suppose that the electronic ones I use now are innacurate. The Omron one I use seems, at least, consistent (hint: take your temperature regularly when you know that you are not ill. You will come to know your "normal" temperature). I do usually keep them in my mouth for a while past the beep, and they usually go up a bit further.

The ear ones are good. Very quick too. But it seems that my ear canal is contorted and I could not get a good reading when I tried one.

Digeplex is composed of alpha amylase (fungal diastage) and pepsin. This is a common combination in many digestive enzyme formulations. Aristozyme (tablet and syrup) is available in most local chemists in Mumbai.

Digeplex ingredients shows as only Pancreatin. However, the one you suggest, though doesn't contain Pancreatin, it seems like a good enough alternative - thank you.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

My father is currently admitted in a hospital. The cardiologist has diagnosed his chest pains as due to Unstable Angina.

ECG, ECHO and Blood Test have all indicated no severe complications. TMT was not done because of his age (64) and leg pain. Instead Angiogram will be conducted in the next few hours.

Request doctors on the forum to guide me about the precautions needed as well as about the issues I should be clarifying with the treating Cardiologist.

Question about a relative of mine. She was diagnosed as having "Protein S" Deficiency (Link) during her pregnancy and had to take Clexane Injections everyday throughout the pregnancy. This was 4 years ago.

Now she is worried if it is safe to take the Covid vaccine given this medical history. Any recommendation on how should such people approach Covid vaccination?

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Hello everyone,

I'm a Doctor and since I couldn't find the appropriate thread here so I'm gonna make my post here.
So I have been working in the frontline since a year from Mid Internship to present in COVID ICU's and I know how taxing it can be given I don't remember when was the last time I had a normal workspace without emotional and physical stress or the last time I met my parent was more than a year ago just before the pandemic was official and I wanna know if there's any space for us here to talk about how the pandemic had impacted our lives and share our experiences and deal with toxicity that comes with our career.

P.S Seeing all the hate that's being portrayed in the media I truly have been very lucky to have nothing but good behaviour and thankful patients even when the outcome of the treatment was otherwise.

Consistently high BP

My mother, age 71 has the BP consistently around 195/80 to 205/85.

Symptoms: No symptoms. We discovered this by chance, during the teeth extraction for dentures. She does not have headache, vision problems, dizziness, or any other symptoms.

Reports are normal for:
Uric acid, Blood urea, Urine Routine, Creatinine, SGPT, Hemogram, Blood sugar (fasting and PP), Chest X Ray, USG (Abdomen Pelvis).

2D Echo shows:
Moderate concentric LV hypertrophy. IVS and posterior walls 14-15 mm thick. EF is 60%.

Medicines taken:
  • Stamlo 25 and CTD 6.25 for 4 days. Prescribed by local general practitioner.
  • Then Telmesartan 40 + Nebi 5 mg for 4 days. Prescribed by renounced and experienced MD (Medicine).
  • He then changed it to Telmesartan Beta 40 + 25 for 4 days.
  • BP consistently around 200/80 all these 12 days.

Advice requested:
Do we need to visit any other specialist doctor? And any recommendations for the same in Pune?

That is dangerously high level at her age. Please seek immediate opinion of expert cardiologist. I'm not a doctor but I think that the dose of medications that are being prescribed are too low.

Thanks for the input.

We have visited two doctors so far.
  1. General Practitioner in the neighborhood
  2. MD (Medicine) doctor having experience of more than 3 decades, who also heads the ICU of a big hospital.

None of them gave us any sense of an emergency.

The BP was checked by both these doctors with their own separate instruments and subsequently by us at home with Omron instrument. So instrument error is ruled out.

Let us hope that some doctor on the forum also gives an opinion on this.
