re: Are you a PMP (Project Management Professional)?

Has anyone here attended any course in ADEPT technologies (Project management training)?

I am hunting for a good institute for PRINCE2 training and certification in Bangalore. Adept offers the lowest price.

Any feedback please?

Unfortunately, nine out of ten IT companies in India do software services. There are too few product companies. Most services would do with an average Joe s/w engineer with 2-6 years exp under his/her belt and only need a smart manager to manage them. In a team of 10 members typically, there will be one Project Manager (~10years), two tech leads(~6years), six software engineers(2-4 yrs) and one technical architect(>10 yrs) who will be sliced into multiple projects at the same time. Hence, technical people with higher experience find few openings here. However, in a technology or product software company, I have seen, a techie commands more respect than people manager. It is easy to transition from techie role to people manager, but, reverse, may not be as easy.

I think another area, for experienced technical professionals, to lookout would be "Product Management". We had a product manager, who had authored four Cisco press books and knew exactly what customers want and also was an expert at ironing out differences between different teams. He earned respect from all stake holders. With more and more company doing/shifting research and product development here, I think, requirements for good Product Managers should increase.

Subtle changes will be incorporated by 31st Aug '11. The changes will reflect in the exams starting Sep '11.

I run a training company; PMP is a part of our catelog. PM me if you need any assistance/guidance in your PMP journey.

Cheers...

Pmi.org has all information about the changes. the link here give all info.

I had attained the 35 hrs PDU last year based on current PMBOK. I am thinking that I need to take the exam also based on current PMBOK. Else, the training and PDU gained may be lost. So I have to take the exam before 31st August 2011. I really hope I can get this done. Any one has any idea about people like me who are caught in the transition?

Guys, the 35hrs training you take before completing PMP certification is not supposed to be referred as PDUs.

PDUs are to be collected to keep you complete your certification. These are required by PMI to renew your certification.

I have recently (2 weeks back) completed PRINCE2 Practitioner certification.
Now I am thinking of taking-up PMP also.

Some files in PMI website are having extension of *.ashx type. I am not able to open these files from my laptop. Any idea how to open these?

Changes after 31-Aug-2011

I was going through the syllabus and exam patterns to understand the changes going to happen from 31-Aug-2011.

What I understand is that the only change is going to be the distribution of questions in the exam. Topic 'Professional and Social Responsibility' earlier had dedicated questions; post Aug-31 it will be mixed with other topics and spread across throughout the exam.

I've created a spreadsheet as below. Experts please comment.

re: Are you a PMP (Project Management Professional)?

Folks,

Don't bother a lot on what's in the new format vis-a-vis the old. There won't be a lot of changes and I doubt you will even notice the change while writing the exam. For instance, I had read Rita Mulcahy's revision 2 book and cleared rev 4. The most important thing is to get the basics right and get the right project management experience (according to PMI) in place. For ex, many of us do not do end to end project management (contracts, procurement) and some do not participate in Initiating phase. While writing the exam, just think yourself as an ideal project manager who's got all the power in the world (even though in reality you don't ) with a good professional background and ethics and you should be good to go.
