Re: The Airtel Thread

I got moved to a the new 299 INR plan today. I was on an older 299 plan which, thought it gave me the flexibility of selecting what benefits I required, the total benefits were not that great.

But the new plan is part of the infinity plans which gives free calls (local and national), 5 GB data and also got free international roaming.

Reduced cost from 299 + 149 to just 299.

And this 299 plan is not available anymore on their website or app. The base plan now on both these mediums is INR 399.

Re: Airtel Prepaid Account Profile?

My sister's airtel prepaid account showing up with someone else name. As recent as couple of month's back it was with her name. The prepaid SIM with the number is on her mobile and works fine. The sales guys at airtel office seemed helpless.

How do we get this back in her name, other than moving onto postpaid account? Please advise!

You should write to Airtel at their email address with supporting documents. They will sure get back to you with some resolution, this would be far more effective than the local sales office.

Re: The Airtel Thread

I am facing issues with my Airtel Broadband 40MBps connection. Speed (testmy.net) is fine with India and Singapore servers but getting only 20MBps with US servers. The ping speeds are also bad with US websites. Didn't get much help from Airtel support.

Anyone facing similar issues?

Here is a tracert results of some sites. Could someone please try these sites and check how are the results? Any others suggestions on how to get the issue fixed.

Re: The Airtel Thread

I tried to recharge an Airtel number for an annual plan through UPI, amount deducted, recharge was not successful. Recharge was done on 14/03/'20, the amount is yet to be reversed. Their twitter page is not helpful, they are ignoring DM and tweets.

I have written to the appellate officer too, no response yet. Any help?

Re: The Airtel Thread

I am on an Airtel prepaid annual pack, yet I cannot call the toll free bank numbers. I cannot even call the Airtel 121 customer care number.

It says I don't have sufficient balance. What nonsense is this?

I think you should be able to call numbers starting with 1800 XXX. On the other hand, numbers starting with series 1860 are not 'toll free' & are chargeable. So, check if you are calling some 1860 XXX number. Also, calling AirTel customer care is not free. They charge 50p/min if you want to speak to the customer care representative. The normal 'unlimited' prepaid packs that we generally use is not going to get us to the customer care. For that, you will have to top up with some cash balance. Trust this helps.

Saket

Re: The Airtel Thread

I am not even a subscriber of Airtel, yet receiving their Black Bill every month on my email.
It started with me receiving mail that my Plan and Number has been approved. Being currently on a visit to US, I shot a mail that I have not subscribed to your service and the real subscriber is my namesake. Please correct mail id in your system.
Since then, I am regularly receiving monthly bill. I have regularly mailed back that I am not the intended receipient but the idiots have not taken any action.
Sure, some poor guy, in some Airtel branch is going to get the best of Punjabi cuss words when I return back to India and pay a visit to their office.

Thanks Saket, it really helped.

But I am unable to process this. Why can't I talk to a customer care representative if I am having an issue, when I have paid them in advance for a year? This makes no sense at all.

Welcome to, well call it whatever you want to.

Telecom operators saw a buck to be made with customer service calls, and service providers a buck to be saved, as a customer is less likely to call if they're paying for it, compared to a toll-free number so they can get away with lower support staffing.

They've all pretty much switched en masse to paid options if you want to use IVR or speak to a human. Free options are all limited-functionality chat bots, whether on their own dedicated apps or over WhatsApp and the likes.

Most 1800 toll-free options have been converted to 1860 'special' numbers, and calls to these are not covered by one's subscription. It's not just a prepaid thing either, I get charged extra on my 'unlimited' postpaid plan too, for any 'special' numbers I call.

It sucks even worse when they keep you on hold for an eternity and the call conveniently drops, and they'll never call back as a courtesy, though they'd spam call you all day long despite being registered on DND.

Rant over.

Re: The Airtel Thread

Has anyone experienced outgoing voice being blank during your calls in Airtel. This is an intermittent problem I am seeing with mine as well as my wife's Airtel.

BSNL/Jio on the same phone works, so it's not a phone problem.

Happens always whenever I call my wife & a family friend as well - both Airtel to Airtel in Namma Bengaluru. When she calls me back, all is fine but with my family friend, even that doesn't work and we end up talking on a WA call.

Re: The Airtel Thread

Any idea where all in Bangalore Airtel 5G signal is enabled, I heard it is active in and around their main office on Bannerghatta Road near Jayadeva flyover. Any other areas where BHPians have experienced the same?

I stay close to Jayadeva hospital, and I get Airtel 5G with speeds averaging around 60-70mbps. I didn't realise they had activated in this area first because of Airtel office location.
