@Driver: Have you ever tried translating a song from Telugu to English?
This is nothing but the literal translation of the song. It isn't like translating dialogues.
You JUST CAN'T get it unless you hear it in the
Well, the Athiradi song was intended to be so unreal by director Shankar.
Lucky we southies have the best technicians and performers.

Yes that's why I'm focussing on the songs. The translations are mind-bendingly funny.

Now Nitrous, let us continue laughing at the translations, lol. Stop getting annoyed. Admit it, it is funny.

Quite true. Literal translations can be quite..er..interesting. I'm not a Southie, but my soon-to-be lady is a Tamilian, so I'll soon be taking a crash course on Learning Tamil in one month. Hey, then I would probably being doing similar translations! Definitely will be beaten by my in-laws then!

But everything said and done, I actually like South movies and songs, esp Tamil songs. The music is quite catchy and nice. Most people are surprised to hear Telugu and Tamil songs in my car!

Generally this is not a problem for Rajinikanth, he can bend the train tracks by simply twisting his ankle. But here he needed to act helpless in order inspire his lady love into action.

Ek was opposite Bobby. I follow all her movies religiously.

Anyway, may I just mention to readers of the thread that as many things as Rajni does on screen that deserve to be made fun of, he is in fact one of the simplest people off it. Quite a noble and moral man and everything, unlike many "superstars" in other industries...Just for general knowledge.

Btw Sam, keep up the good work!

P.S.: For anyone who's curious, Rajni's "title" is Superstar. It rolls at the beginning of all his movies, usually with lots of special effects. Quite a common occurrence in the South, but I think he was one of the first few to start it...

Same here. Its the only reason, I'm on this thread. It is painful to watch rajni being made fun of, but Shriya's pics kind of make up for it.

Ah, but Rajni is not being made fun of here. What is being made fun of, is the English translation of the dialogs.

Keep em coming Sam. Had the whole team in splits today. Initially a few team members were a bit apprehensive reading about Rajani and Sivaji. But soon they found that it was the translation and not the person.

As these gentlemen have (rightly) pointed out - I'd like to state once and for all that I am not making fun of Rajinikanth. I am fully aware of his superstar status and of his ardent fans and have no desire to make fun of the man.
I am pointing out comical moments of the movie, perhaps laughing at some silly aspects of the role (that were meant to be funny in the first place) and TOTALLY ridiculous English (literal) translations that sound quite retarded to a non-tamil speaker like me.

It is really all in good humour. I am laughing while posting the screenshots and I hope everyone will enjoy it in good humour and sport too.

So now - I will continue. Please let us not jump up in defence of Rajinikanth anymore and let us all laugh in a healthy, silly manner. That was the objective of my thread.
