Shimla at night from the mall

ISO 50
Shutter 64 Secs

Taken with Canon Powershot S2 IS using CHDK hack, camera supports max of 15 sec only.

Forgot to use the Dark Frame substraction using CHDK , result was interesting to say the least. Used HotPixels tool (freeware) from Mediachance to clear the hot pixel noise (frame full of green and red dots) and touched up in PSE 7 using spot healing brush to cover the "holes" left by Hotpixels tool.

Have anyone of you used CHDK on your Canon Point and Shoot ?, it opens up amazing posibilities - almost turns the P&S into pseudo DSLR.

Not really, the sensor size and optics will be still in P&S league.

That's true , the mechanical limitations of the sensor and optics will still remain. However most of the software imposed limitations are gone. As an analogy it is probably like adding Pete's box to your existing hardware.

Best of all , it lets you shoot in RAW , again this "RAW" is also not in the DSLR league.

You can use Grids , Live Histograms , DOF readings , Increase Av and Tv and add much more punch to bracketing. The increase in parameters to the newer P&S that uses DIGIC III or IV processors is even better. Even adding small things like a battery meter.

Almost 4 years old shot from pre-dSLR days. This barely qualifies with 3 seconds. Now don't tell me I should have avoided the pole and the tree on the left side, I have already told that to me myself.

3s, F/2.3, ISO100 with Sony Cybershot DSC-F717

Guys 2 questions regarding shooting movement of stars:-

1. My DSLR has only 30s as Minimum shutter speed plus bulb. So if i need to shoot stars say at 500 seconds I will have to put it on bulb and keep the button pressed and eventually get tired doing that. Or I could also buy a cable release. My question is, is there any way to click a 500s shot with out a cable and without getting tired?

2. I do not have infinity in my lens, so how do i focus on the stars. Putting the camera on manual focus doesnt help me much. what is the best way?

Thanks

Nice shot there... I had been to this place twice... It is the BMW building right? The Olympic Centrum is somewhere in the vicinity I suppose.

@TG: Really nice picture... postcard material.
