Could be some reflection? I have been fooled by reflections before.

Re: Spooky Experiences : Share them here

What I saw felt real to my brain but not to reality.

A few years ago, we were driving from Bangalore to Kanyakumari. Several road and bridge construction projects were underway between Madurai and Kanyakumari.

Around 11 p.m., I told my companion that I could see a massive ship stuck in the middle of the road. Workers in orange and yellow uniforms appeared to be using shovels to clear the sand around the ship so it could return to the water.

My companion asked if I was asleep. I replied, “I’m awake and seeing the ship and workers, but I’m also aware that it’s not really there.”

As we got closer, the ship vanished, revealing a sign that read, “Road Work — Take Diversion.” Before seeing the sign, though, the ship and workers had seemed vividly real to me.

We took the diversion and continued, but a few moments later, I saw a space rocket in the middle of the road, ready for launch. I told my companion what I saw and decided to stop at the next petrol bunk to rest — or risk being “rested” forever. After a 15-minute break, we resumed the journey and reached our destination without further drama.

This experience was likely a case of highway hypnosis. It taught me a valuable lesson: the brain is a master of illusions. To those who have seen, heard, or felt strange things — your brain can create vivid sensory inputs to trick you into believing they are real.

Reflecting on this, I realized how my brain had similarly played tricks on me during my younger years. Back in school, I was terrified of ghosts. Watching ghost stories on TV left me so scared that I’d sleep surrounded by godly protective items. Even in college, scary movies made me afraid to venture out in the dark or pass cemeteries. My imagination would conjure unsettling visions, making the nights feel endless.

But now, those fears are behind me. Through constant research and logical reasoning, I’ve overcome my fear of ghosts and the supernatural. The incident with the hallucinations was the final nail in the coffin of my belief in ghosts, superpowers, and other “stranger things.”

For me, it was a ship and a rocket; for others, it could be anything drawn from the depths of their brain's repository.
