Re: The Cricket Thread

A good win for India in the second T20I Vs New Zealand. Aided by clinical performances with both ball and bat, India has won the series.
Good time to now give some match time to the players on the bench.

My Bad, I totally missed out on Ruturaj. Did not see him in the dug out or any mention of him by any commentrator.

My playing XI:

R Gaikwad
I Kishan (wk)
R Sharma
S Iyer
SKY
V Iyer
R Ashwin
D Chahar
H Patel
Y Chahal
A Khan

Ishan Kishan is a different player when allowed to open the innings. May be Rohit can keep pushing himself down and letting Iyers have more game time.

Re: The Cricket Thread

India Vs New Zealand 3rd T20I today at Eden gardens Kolkata.

Interestingly, India has won 9 out of the last 10 T20I's against them, losing just that one crucial game in the world cup

Re: The Cricket Thread

Santner and Sodhi almost cast a spell on our batsmen today. Wonder why we struggle against them.

If the trend of chasing making you a winner, we are probably staring at a defeat here. Lets see!

Rohit mentioned at the toss that it's a conscious decision to bat first so that the team can experience such situations that may not be the best/favorable. Since we've won the series, we can afford such experiments and it is a good move

Good win today for a 3-0 whitewash, should boost the confidence when it comes to defending a total. Proves that dew factor is sometimes hyped and used as an excuse - good old approach of tight fielding, good bowling and thoughtful rotation of bowlers can still do the trick.

Difference between R Dravid & R Shastri

Dravid: Its difficult for NZ to play 3 games in 6 days immediately post the world cup. We must keep our feet on the ground.

Shastri: This is the best team in the world. They have whitewashed the WC finalist with ease. Boys can party all night and feel elated.

P.S: The above hasnt been actually said by Shastri, but my best guess of what he would have said.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I guess one bright spot for NZ is Indian bowlers bringing Martin Guptill back to form. :P

I think the credit for that also goes to his luck and some bad Indian fielding, he had his share of lives

And wasn't Shastri correct in stating this is the best team in the world? 5 consecutive test maces staying at no.1 is a proof of that. He gets unwanted critique just because he lives a flamboyant lifestyle and speaks his mind. His record as coach for India in all formats was very good. Not all personalities are alike. For every Sachin we get a Hardik Pandya

Was hoping Avesh Khan get a game last match but we are still playing bhuvi and not willing to try better options. And then bcci sent Deepak chahar for South Africa A matches who has an ordinary record in domestic red ball while Avesh Khan has a brilliant one and is still ignored.

1. It was just a satirical take on him. No denying the fact that he has inculcated an attitude of playing fearless cricket in the dressing room.

2. There could be an angle of IPL for not playing Avesh Khan. Delhi Capitals are looking to retain him and if he would have played then retaining a capped player is lot more expensive. Again my personal take, could very well be wrong.

Edit: For every 1000 Hardik Pandya's we get 1 Sachin and not 1:1 ratio.

Re: The Cricket Thread

For those following the SMA trophy, TN lifted the 2021/22 trophy. Needing 5 runs off 1 ball, RCB IPL star Shahrukh Khan hit a 6 to give victory to TN over KA. Scorecard: Final, Delhi, Nov 22 2021, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Re: The Cricket Thread

In addition to Shreyas Iyer or Suryakumar for Kohli, looks like we will indeed have more changes in the playing XI for the first test Vs New Zealand - Rahul injured, so will it be Mayank-Shubman opening ? Pant may be rested, so will it be Saha or Bharat ?

Re: The Cricket Thread

No Rahul,Rohit,Virat & Pant! Either Shreyas Iyer or Surya Kumar will be handed their debut with Mayank Agarwal making a comeback opening the innings with Gill. I really wonder if the 5 bowler theory will be implemented due to inconsistent form of Pujara & Rahahe! Selectors really messed up Vihari's non-selection. NZ should really fancy themselves provided they're able to tackle our spinners.
