This is BCCI powerplay at work. BCCI was lying low after the Sreenivasan episode and subsequent Supreme Court intervention. It had lent free-hand to the Indian team captain (Kohli at that time) in all matters, including administration. Now those wings are being clipped.

Greg Chappel turned a team of Indian super-stars into a mediocre team. He was such a horrible personality when he was an Australian selector, he was banned from visiting the Australian dressing room based on players' requests.

With Ganguly at the top, there is no doubt in who the BIG boss is. The Prince has been one always. Remember the Steve Waugh toss incident. When it comes to the Prince, it’s almost always ‘his way’.

Re: The Cricket Thread

5 players of windies tested positive. Tour is under threat of cancellation. Pakistan are quite unlucky. Before Aussies and England and NZ backed out and now Covid has struck.

Was expecting carnage in Adelaide pink ball test but England is good for nothing. Unless something dramatic happens Aussies are in for a big score.

Pak vs WI tour has been rescheduled to June 2022.
Warner again misses out on an Ashes Century. His exit from Sunrisers have bought in a good change in his form.

Warner has always been a home track bully in tests. His records outside of Australia is very average. That's why he isn't mentioned among greats of game.

The game can be very cruel. Buttler took an outstanding catch in morning to dismiss Harris and then dropped 2 sitters of Marnus who is still batting.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Looks like this is going to be another series where Australia win 5-0 against England. England's batting & selection has been quite ordinary to be honest.

p.s : It's a pain to watch the match on the SonyLIV app! Really poor experience.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Does it seem like England is trying to solve the wrong problem? I think three fast bowlers + 1 spinner + Ben Stokes was the right selection. If anything, they need make selection changes to strengthen their batting.

With no significant scores, it becomes difficult for their bowlers to be enforcers.

I agree with you. They also need to think about playing Woakes. He is a very good bowler when playing in ENG (swing and seam conditions), but he is an average player at best when playing away from ENG. If at all, they want to play Woakes, let him play as a bastman.
They also have a pacy bowler in Wood, but then whom to drop?

India Vs South Africa first test - Shreyas Iyer dropped for Rahane

The only reason I could think of is past performance since Rahane has a good record playing in South Africa. But how long can we make decisions like this ? Remember what happened to Karun Nair despite getting a triple century ?

Re: The Cricket Thread

More than Iyer, I feel for Vihari
Poor guy, he hasn't done much wrong, but he can't get into 11.
One of Pujara or Rahane should have made way for Vihari or Iyer.
Now imagine what would happen to these two player's chance if Rahane scores 70+ runs

Re: The Cricket Thread

Rahane has never looked this good since MCG! Timing the ball sweetly. Really tough on both Iyer & Vihari.

He's another JIT (Just In Time) cricketer. He will invariably do the bare minimum by performing well at a crucial juncture to retain his spot

...and then keep performing poorly until he is just about to get dropped...and the cycle repeats

Vihari should be higher in the pecking order than Shreyas for this tour at least. He has already been there and is a good player away. Shreyas is untested on away red ball tours.
Rahane has a great record in SA. But by that yardstick Pujara should have been dropped.

Well played KL Rahul and Mayank. Now we seem to have a surplus of choices for each position in the team. Rohit, Gill and Shaw are there too.
Wonder how long Pujara Kohli and Rahane will be persisted with considering so many players are knocking at the door
