Re: The Cricket Thread

Dhoni managed varun quite well by giving him ball once the field restrictions are gone and ensuring that he has good enough protection in his debut. And since one ball is being used for each end the ball doesn't become too soft.

He was very fast in the 1996 SA series. The fastest by an Indian was by him at 156 kmph.
Yes, he had to wait for a long time with Kapil hell bent on creating the world record at a trickling pace and Manoj Prabhakar.

276

Will we get there ?
Sehwag needs to take at least 50-70 runs off the target and leave the rest to VVS and the tail

With the way things were at the close, I think this should be a comfortable victory with 124 more required and with the stalwarts at the crease and looking good.

Of course nothing's guaranteed in life

Looking good now

SRT will not get his 100th tone in this match though. The 3rd match is in Mumbai. Hope he gets it at his home ground. It'll be interesting to see the turnout at the test matches. Heard Mumbai has lowered the ticket rates.

Why? As of now he just needs 34 out of 58. If Laxman does what he does best, Sachin may well do his feat today, unless of course if he wants it in the home ground.

I would keep my bet for today and I don't mind losing it

Re: The Cricket Thread

If VVS makes a conscious effort to score less and allow SRT to get the ton, he will get it. But I hope thats not the line of thought.

I am not too sure what the line of though is, but Laxman is rotating the strike well and letting the master do what he can.

But I agree, it shouldn't seem that 100th one was Laks' mercy!!

Edit: Mumbai it is then. LM is out! Damn Bichoo

Re: The Cricket Thread

He should have taken that leg bye, i felt he was too greedy for the strike to reach his 100th 100, it should not come like this. He deserves to get it in style.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I think Sachin sensed that since the team is more or less out of danger he can take some risk and score some quick runs and reach the elusive 10th 100. But well played innings. Good to see laks getting into the groove. Sehwag is his usual self, which is very good . And if Gambhir also gets going, which he already is but not quite upto his potential, our batting would become very strong. With Yuvraj and Dhoni providing fireworks down the line.

If an inexperienced spin attack can hold the opposition on a normal spin track, I think they can e even more effective on a spinning track with more bounce. All in all a good comeback for team India.

I think he is going to make his records look not so great by the time he retires by playing like this.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I think it is quite natural for any player to try and score centuries and certainly some amount of greed fuels such aspirations. However, only when a player sets aside the teams cause for his own, then such greed would be detrimental for the team and is despicable. In the current match I don't think Sachin's actions were detrimental for the team cause. Only when he felt that the chase was more or less over did he try to take risks. So I don't think we can fault him for being greedy. He was just unlucky that the ball kept marginally low or didn't bounce as much as he expected.
