Re: The Cricket Thread

About time Rahane and Pujara are dropped (bring in SKY and anyone else) and Ashwin brought back in.

Re: The Cricket Thread

78 all out. How the tables have turned.

We are better off with Kohli losing tosses. From Champions Trophy 2017 final to this, he has cost us many games before a ball being bowled. The guy has zero pitch reading skills.

Re: The Cricket Thread

78 all out

An interesting statistic to check would be how many times has a team batting first and scoring less than 100 ever gone on to draw or win a game ?

Edit:one of them was the 2019 Leeds test - England were 67 all out in their first innings and still went on to win the test! But Australia actually batted first in that test. This is possibly the only such instance ?

Edit 2:2011 South Africa Vs Australia, Cape Town test.
South Africa scored 96 in their first innings and went on to win the test! Again, Australia batted th first inning of the match.

So indeed, India needs to make history here!

India vs New Zealand: 1999 Mohali.

India drew after getting bowled out for 83 in first innings.
We scored 500 in second for loss of 3

1 of them has to make way for other batters waiting in reserves...wait has been too long.
To top it up, we hear things like "I am not bothered about criticism" and "I know how to handle pressure". I hope we won't hear it again after this.

And yes, Ashwin should be playing in place of Jadeja, as a default spinner even when playing outside India....he may score less than Jadeja by 10-15 runs, but he's a wicket-taking bowler, so that should matter more than the 10-15 runs difference.

Good to know this, brings some hope for a miracle!

Another one, but we lost this - India lost to New Zealand in 2002 scoring 99 and 154 and New Zealand chased down 160 to win. New Zealand scored 94 in their first innings in that game.

Re: The Cricket Thread

The only hope for us to save this test match would be the weather gods. I will pray for the Varuna for some non stop showers at Leeds.

Re: The Cricket Thread

If you ask a die hard English team fan to script Day 1 for the 3rd test after the Lord's saga, the probable idea would be like :

1. MoM of the lord's test goes for a duck
2. Anderson bunnies Kohli
3. Pujara and Rahane get back to 'form'
4. Bumrah and Shami are dismissed for a golden duck
5. India bundles under 80
6. English openers give them the best start of the series.

Well ...

Re: The Cricket Thread

Hope Team India doesn't become over confident & lose the plot in the series, so far they're hell bent on proving that the Lords win was a fluke! Do not know if Pujara & Rahane will end up getting dropped but they badly need a 6th batsman in Vihari. Can't rely on Rohit-Rahul to bail you out everytime. With Pujara,Virat,Rahane in some indifferent form & Pant a bit of a hit & a miss, the 5 bowler theory has to be revisited. 3 seamers + Ashwin is probably the way ahead.

Not gonna happen. All clear for 5 days. Though I expect this to be over way before that.

Kohli being Captain can't be dropped otherwise he has worst stats in this series among batsman.

Pujara and Rahane needs to be dropped. Pick any 2 among Vihari/Mayank/Sky. They can only do better than these 2.

Rohit looks most solid but then plays such idiotic shots to get out that doesn't helps team at all. For an opening senior bat to keep making such mistakes is unforgivable but then he is still better than others so far. Rohit and Rahul were good last 2 games so can be ignored for failing this time.

Pant as usual is still living in his LaLaLand of attack and refuses to play the situation this series. Needs a pep talk by coach.

Kohli and Shastri aren't playing the best spinner in the world for Jadeja cos Jadeja may make few runs but he won't take any wickets. That's absolutely absurd. Ashwin not only will give you wickets but scores runs himself. He has 5 test centuries for god's sake and this management is treating him like Ishant Sharma with the bat.

This match is gone. Only consolation is we will be 1-1 and still hope for series win in next 2.

Re: The Cricket Thread

This just had to happen, similar to the Adelaide test (when India scored 36), we can only go up from here in this series.

For too long the bowlers have been bowling their hearts out and even making up for below par batting performances, now they're finding it difficult to get wickets on this pitch, clearly shows there aren't demons in this pitch and it's just our batsmen who totally lacked the will to apply themselves.

Unless we somehow get England all out tomorrow and then play a rock solid mammoth second innings, this is likely going to end up as an innings defeat. Those days of batting on and on to pile up runs and draw a test are long one, I don't expect that to happen.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Didn't realize the match was today. And looking at the scoreboard, it seems so did the Indian cricket team.

In the last few years, in every SENA test series, the Indian cricket team has one stinker where they forget to bowl, bat, and everything goes wrong. Let's hope this is that match.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I hoped to see some fireworks from the Indian batting after classes. Classes end at 8 and the Indian team folded well before that.

It seems like the Indian team just didn't show up, kind of like the NZ series. The pitch is a good batting track and even the out of form English openers have scored a 50

The middle order needs a serious rejig and Ashwin needs to get in the side for the next match. He has a knack of taking wickets even on unfavorable pitches.

Re: The Cricket Thread

Must agree with Zac...brilliant bowling it was from Jimmy, using the conditions, his experience and skill. He's a skillful bowler, have to give that to him.

Also, the way the English came back after the demoralizing defeat and turned the tables around on India, they deserve credit for that.
