Re: The Cricket Thread

We have a world class bowling attack now that can take 20 wickets anywhere in the world!

The difference between India team in recent times and the great teams of the past.

Great win at Lords. Excellent, competitive game.

Re: The Cricket Thread

This team knows how to win

Siraj is indeed a good find to support Bhumrah, Shami & Ishant.

This will go down as a great win. We too prayed Pant to bail us out, well Shami & Bhumrah did with bat first and then with the ball.

Test Cricket continues to enthral and we get a nail biting finish.

Test cricket, still the best form of cricket. What a game!

Re: The Cricket Thread

They sold a dummy to Anderson, he kept waiting for the short one to just have his off stump pegged back!!

Guess I spoke too early. With their experience and seniority, I hope they can stitch some crucial partnerships and score more big centuries for India.

This victory is certainly one for the ages. Whether you like him or not, VK should get credit for sticking to the 5 bowler strategy and insisting on selecting pace bowlers. I hope Bumrah gets a well-deserved rest for the 4th test.

Slowly, but steadily, India is looking invincible in Test matches with their bowling. Seems like top order issues are also fixed for the next 3-4 years if Rohit, Rahul, and Gill bat sensibly.

Re: The Cricket Thread

This England side is depleted and if you take away the performances of Root, the batsman and Anderson, the bowler, there is very little to talk about for the last two tests. This gap got glaringly exposed once Shami and Bumrah batted to move India out of a losing proposition.

Not that India doesn't have issues in the team, but this defeat is going to hurt England a lot and it will take some effort to come out of it.

All said and done, it's hallelujah for the moment.

He should have been the MoM today, if you ask me.

Eversince I saw him bowl in Australia, albeit as replacement for injured frontline bowlers, I always thought he should be in the playing 11 by default (at who's expense, I can't say) when India played abroad on non-spin friendly pitches.

He's especially suited to bowl in England and NZ, and thought the team management made a mistake not picking him up for the WTC final.

Re: The Cricket Thread

As a '90s kid, days like this where the match is in balance or tilted slightly towards the opposition in away tours used to end up in disappointment. Even today when Pant got out, the feeling was familiar! But the last few tests has been unbelievable. Bowlers having Right-Arm Fast next to their names and bowling in tandem is a stuff of dreams. What a fabulous team this is!

Re: The Cricket Thread

What a victory!! Every bowler delivered. This is a great advertisement for test cricket.

But I would have enjoyed it so much more if Kholi stopped acting like an ass.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What a match!!! I have already watched the highlights 4 times and I am sure that I am going to watch it many more times throughout the day!
But, one thing that I found strange is MoM for Rahul. I don't know on what basis Rahul was selected? As per me, it has to be Siraj.

Re: The Cricket Thread

I thought the man of the match should have been Bumrah. He scored the runs and got the crucial wickets. Root was looking dangerous. He was removed with an unplayable one. Then Robinson became a threat and he was set up with a master class over.

Re: The Cricket Thread

What a stunning win - what a lovely sight it is to see India with SUCH a potent pace attack and giving it back in SENA countries. The batting from Bumrah and Shami was just glorious - although I'm inclined to think it was an outlier.

Not to take away anything from Rahul but MoM should have been Siraj / Bumrah. Gavaskar said, "it is the batsmen who win matches".

Re: The Cricket Thread

One thing I'd like to see in the remaining tests, and in general, is umpires providing some protection to tail-enders.

Bowling bumpers repeatedly at specialist batsmen is one thing, doing it to #9, 10 & 11 who are ill-equipped to handle it, is just dangerous and irresponsible. Been there, have a scar or two, and some split lips along the way.

The sequence of deliveries at Bumrah yesterday (one of which caught him on the grill) and the body-line stuff at Anderson earlier in the match, could've easily gone horribly wrong on another day. A cricket ball at triple digits is capable of causing serious damage.

Everyone loves a bit of needle, the players all want to play hard and do everything they can to win, but a little caution is warranted. Cricket may no longer be a gentleman's game, but it hopefully doesn't turn into a gladiatorial sport.
