Re: The Credit Card Thread

I am unable to use my new ICICI Mastercard for Netflix auto payments. Generates OTP and then Netflix says unable to process.

Online transactions are enabled, even tried enabling international transactions as well.

Was able to use this for Spotify but striking out at Netflix.

Any tips?

Re: The Credit Card Thread

Does anyone have a clear idea about how the Rewards Multiplier on Amex Membership Rewards Card work? I mean timelines and process. Let me explain.

1. For me, AMEX MRCC - gives a 1000 extra points when you post 4 transactions (in a month) of rs 1500/- each. And another 1000 extra points when you cross Rs 20000/- in a month. It is not clear to me what this "in a month" means. Is it the calendar month (for e.g. 1-31 July) or the billing cycle month (for e.g 9 Jul - 8 Aug)? And are the points credited for the spends in the previous month or is there a lag - i.e. points are for spends a few months earlier. I see that I don't get the points sometimes despite meeting these thresholds. Just wanted to be clear before I approach customer service.

2. The above points work at least sometimes. But the Rewards Multiplier has never worked for me. Rewards Multiplier involves two key requirements.
- you need to go the link, choose the vendor (for example apple), it will then ask for your card number and finally take you to the vendor's site (in this case apple).
- it needs to be the same tab or window (as the above step) of your browser and preferably on your laptop not the mobile. The shopping cart needs to be empty and cookies need to be enabled.

I've tried the above on multiple sites. Normally I'm a very privacy conscious person, so my browsers have no cookies, zero tracking, ad-blocking and the works. Obviously those settings won't work for this program, so I've tried multiple times on completely different laptops (and browsers) where the I have the most liberal, least privacy conscious, go-ahead-and-abuse-my-data settings ever. In spite of these the Rewards Multiplier points never get credited. Obviously it's hard to show and explain to Amex customer service about this situation!

---
Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Any solutions? The lifetime free AMEX MRCC that I've had for years now fits the bill for me and if these above things work properly, I really don't feel the need to chase down diner's black or infinia. (the yearly fee is still something I'm not sure i can justify!).. So look for any solutions you guys might have.

Calendar month and rewards multiplier can be realised via the rewards program and Gyftr.

The images are not of the same month, but, if you look at the credited points, it is from an INR 1000 transaction done at Gyftr and 1000 points after 6 x 1000 have happened.

Re: The Credit Card Thread

Thanks @vinu_h.

Anything related to the browser that you're using? How do buy these gyft vouchers? mobile/pc? any cookie related setting i need to watch out for?

Whether you get reward multipliers from gyftr or any of the supported websites, it should work the same way. I thought I did the reward multiplier steps the right way when i bought an Ipad from the apple.in site but nothing.

No. You dont need to be present on the trip always when booking tickets thru an FFP for someone else.

So go ahead and work towards it. Singapore Airlines Krisflyer Program is one of the easiest ones to understand and use.

Have done the following redemptions till now on Singapore Airlines using Krisflyer Miles:

1. Mumbai - Singapore - Bali - 3 x Business Class Tickets (117,000 Miles)
2. Bali - Singapore - Mumbai - 3 x Business Class Tickets (117,000 Miles)
3. Mumbai - Singapore - Ho Chi Minh City - 1x First + Business Mixed Cabin (58,500 Miles)
4. Singapore - Mumbai - Business Class (43,000 Miles)
5. Mumbai - Singapore - Phnom Penh - 1 x Business Class (43,000 Miles)
6. Siem Reap - Singapore - Phnom Penh - 1 x First + Business Mixed Cabin (98,000 Miles)
7. Siem Reap - Singapore - Phnom Penh - 1 x Business Class (43,000 Miles)

All those miles were earned on Credit Card with HDFC Infinia the maximum

For Gyftr reward multiplier, you just need to go to the website https://www.gyftr.com/amexrewardmultiplier/ and buy your vouchers. MRCC will only get you 2x points so for a 1500rs voucher you will get 60 points. These are credited automatically after about 2 days.

The bonus points for milestones are for each calendar month.

The 1000 bonus points for 4x1500rs transactions are credited automatically about 2 days after you hit this milestone. Just be careful you actually checkout for at least 1500rs each time when using Gyftr reward multiplier, as some vouchers offer a 5% discount. So if you buy a 1500rs voucher you actually end up paying less and then don't hit the milestone.

The 1000 bonus points for additional 20k spends require you to opt in as a one time thing. Have you done this?

According to Amex's T&C's, the credit of reward points through Rewards Multiplier may take up to 150 business days (6 months). So until 6 months passes its very difficult to know if you are going to get it or not! The Gyftr Reward Multiplier is much easier to work with if you can use that. Suggest to buy Amazon Pay vouchers and use that for your spends (accepted on most portals that use the razorpay payment gateway).

You can also easily 5x your reward points by getting the so called Amazon Trifecta (MRCC, Gold, Platinum Travel). Happy to help you with the calculations on this if you are interested.

Thank you! Do you or anyone else have contact of a (reliable) Axis Credit Card Application person? The one I have in my contacts does not seem to be interested.
I am in Bangalore if that matters

Apologies beforehand if this is a silly question.
What are the benefits of Infinia points redemption to Krisflyer Miles versus direct redemption of the points on Smartbuy website.
For example, if I book a Mumbai - Singapore flight on Smartbuy website, I can pay upto 70% of the fare with points (1:1 conversion). Does converting to Krisflyer Miles and then booking the same ticket bring any further advantages?

Booking with points will generally give you much better value for money.

For example, taking Tejas' example of Singapore - Mumbai - Business Class (43,000 Miles), the revenue rate of this ticket would be at least Rs80k.

If you redeemed points on Smartbuy at 70% for this ticket, you'd end up paying 56000 points + Rs24000.

If you transferred miles to Singapore Airlines Kris Flyer, you would need to pay 43000 points + Rs1500 in taxes. This saves you a massive 13000 points + Rs22500, effectively a total of Rs35,500!

Hence, generally speaking, booking with Frequent Flyer Miles gives you way better VFM.

Thanks for the explanation. That makes it very clear. So the ticket price with Miles is different from that of a normal ticket price.
A follow up question. Are the tickets with Miles as Tejas had quoted readily/generally available or are they a rare commodity that one needs to be on the look out for?

This card does not offer any great benefits but I'm just taking it because its LTF.

My oldest card (after I surrendered my BOBCARD some years ago) is a SBI Platinum. Those days it was a basic card. I have not used it in more than 5 years. I don't see this card in SBI's portfolio anymore though there is a more premium Platinum. Will surrendering this car have a negative impact on my CIBIL Score? I'm not getting any option to upgrade to a better card or enhance the limit on the app.

Meanwhile I came across this company which will convert your normal Plastic Card to a Metal one and it can also be customised.

The further ahead you book the better the chances you get of booking a reward ticket (with miles). Most airlines open up only a few seats per flights for reward bookings. If you are booking 3-4 months in advance and its not peak season then generally speaking you should easily get reward seats on your preferred dates +/-2 days or so. However there are sometimes when there are still seats available even just a few days before the flight.

Also, it is not just the flying airline that you can book with. Partner airlines sometimes offer the same tickets for similar miles but way less taxes. For example I have just booked 2 tickets through United to fly on ANA to Japan for just 35000 miles and Rs1300 per person in taxes, whereas revenue tickets where upwards of 40k per person. Partner airlines are sometimes some of the sweet spots due to the super low taxes.

Have a look at https://seats.aero/ for an idea of what seats are available today onwards for routes all across the world. You need to play around with the search features a bit for a non-paid account but it is pretty informative.

Re: The Credit Card Thread

Hey guys. This thread seems like the perfect place to share my opinion on IndianOil XTRA CC by RBL. It has been 2 months since I started using it and the card is exactly what it promises. (7.5% discount on fuel) If your expense on fuel is more than 8-10k per month, I highly recommend it. The annual fee is 1500 + GST but the welcome benefit of 3000 points nullifies the yearly fee. Here's a short breakdown of my usage.

From what you have posted it seems to be a good card for fuel compared to other co-branded fuel cards.
How has your experience with RBL (not limited this card but in general) been? Many people (including me) experienced RBL cards for the first time with the RBL Zomato card. The rewards were good and it made sense in you were using Zomato a lot. However many people complained that they were not happy with the service of RBL. Even I did not have a very nice experience and I ended up cancelling the card.
