Here r my ratings

Mercedes C 180- 200km/hr

Honda Accord (Auto,2002 model) - 215 km/hr

Ford Endeavour - This ones was a shocked it touched down then entire speedo range 180 km/hr FLAT ! I was suprised my self that the car was capable of doing all the way,and the tacho was way above the red line.

All speeds touched on the mumbai poona expressway.

Those were all when i was on the drivers seat...the fastest i have been on the backseat of a car is 260 in a S500 in germany. This again was the needle on the floor, the germans have restricted the speedo to 260 but i am sure the car was capable of far more.

Hey Bhp,

The reason that happened is due to nothing other than Bhp!
And i dont mean your driving skills... im talking about horsepower

In 4th gear your car must have reached 160km/h while the engine was somewhere near redline, where it produces the most bhp.
When you shift to 5th and try to push the car faster, or even maintain the same speed it is not possible, because of two reasons.

1. When you upshift, the revvs drop, and the engine has started making less hp (since it is not right up threre near redline where the most hp is made). And when the car is at its limits, every little bit of hp is needed, hence the car starts slowing down.

2. The ratio of the 5th gear is needless to say more extreme than that of 4th gear, so even more power is required to push the car against the opposing forces of friction and wind resistance. (The same way as you may find it easier for the car to drive up a slope(=opposing force) in 2nd as compared to 3rd)

Hope that makes sense,
cya

ps - N_C thats a pretty impressive figure of 150KmpL !!

You said it!! My girl keeps a limit of 160 on me..thus the conversation is always "200 km/h? No ways luv, 20% speedo error. We are actually cruising at 160... "

Hyundai Santro 120kmph on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

VolksWagen Sharan (TDi) - 190kmph on the German Autobahn . Felt utterly safe and easy even at that speed!

Fiat Palio 1.6 S10 - 140kmph on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

* *Both driver and car were willing to go faster but i felt really unsafe at that speed. You never know which moron may suddenly decide to change his lane without indicating for no apparent reason or maybe some idiot decides to park his car in the overtaking lane and enjoy the monsoon beauty! Also the expressway road has some rough patches

Very true, and an intelligent decision.

Plus if you are ever in two minds about going faster, all you gotta do it roll the windows down and then you will realise just how fast 140km/h is!

My, that's a huge speedo error these cars have. None of these cars even touch 170kmph "true speed". More than 15 kmph!!! Wow.

Well,i really dunt really know the actual top speed, but i have clocked 185kmph(speedo) on these 3.......Esteem was smooth n easy,Opel a lil reluctant but it managed wit sturdiness.Lancer was easy till 175kmph,pulled it for a while n got it up there.Wud have gone past 185kmph too,but just a lil ahead was a Sumo drivin on 100kmph approx on the fast lane of the expressway.

And had 2 of my friends in the car too.
